With Thibaut Courtois suspended following his red card against Manchester City, second choice Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has a chance today to prove himself in goal against Bournemouth.

Begovic left Stoke City last year in the move Stamford Bridge but has yet to cement his place as a first team regular. Statistics suggest that Begovic has had more success between the posts at Chelsea, keeping 8 clean sheets to Thibaut Courtois‘ 6.

There is much speculation over the future of Courtois leaving an opening for Begovic to get first team football at Stamford Bridge, however, there is also speculation that Begovic could be keen on leaving in the summer seeking more game time at another club.

Reports suggest that if Begovic doesn’t receive the game time he wants, he too will leave the club with teams like West Ham, Everton and Crystal Palace waiting in the wings to sign him.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is still unsure about his Chelsea future and has been linked with a possible move this summer to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Courtois is valued at £70m and Real Madrid would have to offer at least that amount to persuade Chelsea to let the Belgian go.

He was asked last month whether he saw himself at Chelsea next season.

“I do not say yes, I do not say no. I do not know. I still have three years on my contract.

“We must see what Chelsea want. It is true that it [this season] has changed me. Until now I had always won a trophy every season. We hope that next season will be better.”

Madrid enquired about a move for Courtois last season and are ready to step up their efforts if they fail to sign their first choice David De Gea from Manchester United.

There have been reports that Courtois doesn’t see eye-to-eye with the goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon and that would surely add fuel to the fire.

However, newly appointed manager Antonio Conte has spoken to Courtois and his agents telling them that he is a big fan of the 23-year-old and would like him to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will be looking to recover from back-to-back defeats as they come up against AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday (15:00 GMT KO).

After losing his first game in his second spell as Blues boss in a 1-0 defeat to Swansea, a Sergio Aguero hattrick for Manchester City last weekend ensured that manager Guus Hiddink has only won one game in his last six in all competitions.

However, they will be looking to change that against a Bournemouth side who have been very impressive in their debut season in the top flight. Eddie Howe’s side are not technically safe from relegation, but the Cherries currently sit in 13th, just three points off Chelsea in 10th and are all but assured of Premier League football on the south coast next season.

In the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge, Glenn Murray’s late header saw Bournemouth snatch all three points in what was Jose Mourinho’s last game in charge before his dismissal.

Last six games:

Chelsea: LLDWLL (includes one FA Cup game and one Champions League game).

AFC Bournemouth: WWLLWL

Team News:

– Bournemouth defender Adam Smith (groin) and midfielder Harry Arter (achilles) remain out.

– However striker Callum Wilson looks fit to play after a long recovery from a knee injury.

– Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois begins his three-match suspension after his red card against Manchester City last week.

Eden Hazard returns to match squad after almost two months

John Terry and Loic Remy remain out but Eden Hazard may return after a hip/groin problem.

Statistics:

– Chelsea have won four of their last six games against Bournemouth.

– Bournemouth have also lost four of their last six home games.

– Meanwhile the Blues have won five of their last seven away games, conceding just three away goals under Hiddink.

– Callum Wilson has scored five goals this season – from just eight shots on target.

Starting XI last time out in the Premier League:

Chelsea (home vs. Manchester City, lost 0-3): Courtois, Baba, Ivanovic, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Mikel, Fabregas, Willian, Loftus Cheek, Pedro, Costa.

AFC Bournemouth (home vs. Liverpool, lost 1-2): Boruc, Francis, Elphick, Cook, Daniels, Surman, Ritchie, Gosling, Stanislas, Gradel, King.

KENNETH OMERUO

Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo has not been selected in Nigeria’s provisional squad list for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de JaneiroAllnigeriasoccer.com reports.

The Kasimpasa defender always claimed that he would love to represent the Nigeria U23s at the Olympic Games, and had been tipped make the roster, especially as he is within the age limit.

Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia has drawn up a list of 60 players which has been sent to the Nigeria Football Federation and his name was missing from the squad list.

Assuming Omeruo made the squad list for the competition and was given a run out in any of the matches, he would join a select group of players to have played in the five international tournaments sanctioned by Fifa.

The centre-back already represented Nigeria at 2009 Fifa U17 World Cup and 2011 Fifa U20s, then played at the 2013 Confederations Cup and World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

Chelsea midfielder Charlie Colkett has put pen to paper and signed a new 3-year deal.

The 19-year-old captained the Chelsea youth side to U19 UEFA youth league success against PSG on Monday, and has already lifted the FA youth cup twice.

The England U20 international joined the Chelsea ranks as U11 and made it to the first team earlier this month but was an unused substitute.

Colkett told the clubs official website that it’s a proud day and he will go on to achieve more.

“It’s a very proud day for me and my family.

“It’s been great since I’ve been here and hopefully I can continue to kick on and achieve even more.”

Juventus are desperately trying to keep Chelsea loanee Juan Cuadrado on a permanent deal but next Blues boss Antonio Conte is really keen to bring him back to London.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport the Italian club nearly resigned to the chance to sign him.

Cuadrado failed to make an impact in his first four months spell at Chelsea and was loaned to Juventus last summer: he came back to impress with the Bianconeri, finding again the confidence and the pace he needed.

For these reasons Conte, that always had a soft spot for the Colombian winger, wants Cuadrado in his next Chelsea squad and is not open to negotiate a permanent deal with his ex club, Juventus.
