Frank Lampard has ruled out the possibility of returning to the Premier League during the MLS close season, claiming that he wants to use the time to recover from the injuries that have plagued his first season with New York City.
Lampard, Chelsea’s all time record goalscorer with 211 goals between 2001 and 2014, left England at the end of last season having spent 12 months with Chelsea’s rivals Manchester City, infamously scoring for the Citizens against the Blues during a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
Lampard dismisses the possibility he will return to these shores. He is quoted in The Mirror:
“I need the rest to be fully fit next year for the club.
“I wish I could have not had the injuries, but every player has to accept that injuries come along sometimes.
“My aim now is to manage myself well for next season, to finish this season on a high, have some breaks at times, but keep ticking over, have a really good pre-season and throw everything into next year.
