Starts Fernandinho and ends Caballero; the League Cup goes to Manchester with the shiver of penalties
In the name of Caballero, as well.
The second goalkeeper of Manchester City had played all the matches of League Cup, then the Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini decided to keep traditions rewarding him a first-string place also in the final against Liverpool of Jurgen Klopp. And he didn’t disappoint the expectations, because thanks to his three saves during the “lottery” of penalties the Citizens succeeded in raising up the trophy.
Has been an incredible and really pleasant game, in which both teams offered a spectacular winning desire with many opportunities to score from the first to the last minute.
Fernandinho opened the score with a brilliant foray and a likewise powerful shot, even if Mignolet can’t be considered free of guilty because of his late leap. Then two massive gol attempts sensationally failed by the ex-Liverpool Raheem Sterling, “hosted” from his former supporters with whistles during all the match.
Then on the thin ice came the draw score for Liverpool, accomplished by Philipe Coutinho after an huge gol attempt for Lallana; extra time and lots of chances, but no one has more strength to definitively finalize matters.
On the penalties starts Emre Can, who scores with a perfect lob, then a missed penalty for Fernandinho. Jurgen Klopp is already testing the taste of win when Leiva, Coutinho and at last Lallana all missed their opportunities from the spot.
Moral of the tale: Manchester City can glee again and Liverpool is still waiting his time to return to the old glory. “You’ll never walk alone” was the last chant of the match, as usual, even if we were at Wembley.
