Marco Amelia and Alexandre Pato shared the dressing room for three years at AC Milan.
The Italian goalkeeper, at Chelsea since September, knows the Brazilian striker very well and, in an interview to the Blues official website, claimed Pato can make an impact at Stamford Bridge and in the Premier League:
“We played three years together in AC Milan and he played very well there. The last year he had an injury and went back to Brazil but the past three years he played very well in Brazil and scored lots of goals.
“Pato can play in different positions, as a no.9 striker, as a no.10, they are the same for him.
“He is a very quick player, a very technical player and good at take-ons. He is a good man and Chelsea is a good chance for him to play in Europe again.
“In England it is different football because it is very strong but for me he is a good player for England because he has the right mind to play in this country. Now we wait because he had finished the season in Brazil and he has started training and maybe he can soon help the team play for wins because Chelsea is a top club and every game it has to play to win.”
When Amelia was asked in which occasion of their time together at AC Milan Pato impressed more, he got no doubt:
“I remember he scored a lot of goals in Italy but I remember one game – a derby against Inter and Pato played very well and scored two goals (pictured top).
“We didn’t have Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the pitch as he was suspended and Pato played striker no. 9 and played with the team, with a good attitude because it was an important game for winning the league which we did later that season.”
