Chelsea centre back Gary Cahill admits that yesterday’s victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the group stage of the Champions League is another positive signal of the return to the winning mold of the Blues.
The England international was particularly satisfied with yesterday’s outcome and 4-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv because thanks to this team controls the situation in their group in the Champions League. He admitted that another consecutive victory builds self confidence, and this is now what the team need most.
Cahill told Chelsea’s official website:
”We knew what we had to do coming in to this game”
”We knew we had to get a result to take it into the last game at Stamford Bridge and we’ve done that. It’s going to be an important game for us. We can’t be worried about what’s going on elsewhere.”
”We need to build confidence, we need to build momentum, and we need to get a run of wins together, so it was important for a number of reasons. I was pleased not just with the result but the performance as well. We played some good football on a difficult pitch and I thought we dominated from start to finish.”
The England defender has also praised his teammate Willian for his stunning performances:
”From the start of the season he has been fantastic”
”He’s taken it up to another level. When he gets a free-kick anywhere around that 18-yard box you get the feeling there is going to be a goal now. I said that to him after the goal. We see him in training practising them and it’s not luck, he works hard on them.”
