Diego Costa has revealed that Chelsea’s early exit from the Champions League was because their festive fixture schedules.
The Blues hope of a treble was ended following a 2-2 home draw against PSG, which sent the French champion through to the latter stages of the completion.
Chelsea were set to advance to the quarter finals of the competition only for former player David Luiz to head in a late equaliser, before Thiago Silva denied them in extra time.
Now Costs believed that the Christmas period fixtures played a significant role in their exit, as the Blues had 7 games to play in three weeks.
He said:”It could be that the effort during Christmas has taken its toll as we played three games in seven days but it’s no excuse.
“We had enough quality to play a different game in London but it was not to be.
“PSG have a great team and we have to accept it and congratulate them.”
Costa was part of the Athletico Madric team beaten 4-1 by arch rival Real Madrid in last years final.
