Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaus Courtois claims assumptions he and former Chelsea Number 1 Petr Cech didn’t get on last season when the young Belgian displaced the Czech as first choice at Stamford Bridge, and that the two remain close.
Cech had been Chelsea’s first choice ‘keeper since he joined the club from Rennes in 2004 but left last summer to join Arsenal after losing his place to Courtois. Courtois, currently on the sidelines with injury, dismisses the notion that the competitive rivalry between the two meant they didn’t get on meant a bad relationship generally and says that they often talk on the phone.
Speaking to Belgian media, Courtois said this:
“In every interview last year it was about my relationship with Cech.
“Apparently everyone thought we had blazing rows every day, it was just the opposite. Petr and I had a close relationship. Even now, we call each other frequently.”
