Bayern Munich forward Douglas Costa claims Chelsea made great efforts to sign him in the summer but that it was the presence of Pep Guardiola that convinced him to choose the Allianz Arena.
Costa, 25, was the subject of great speculation in the summer as Chelsea, among other Premiership clubs, but ultimately joined the Bundesliga champions for €30 million from Ukraine side Shakhtar Donestsk, and has cited the chance to work with two-time Champions League winner Pep Guardiola as the reason for doing so.
Speaking to Bild, the most popular tabloid newspaper in Germany, Costa explains himself:
“Chelsea also wanted me.
“There was great interest and they made great efforts, but I wanted to join Pep Guardiola by all means. And Bayern.
“It was a conscious decision in favour of Pep and Bayern because I was convinced that I can learn more here.”
