Chelsea are readying a €27.5 million move to steal Manchester United target Douglas Costa, according to reports.
The Shakhtar Donetsk man has consistently impressed since joining the club from Gremio in 2010.
Chelsea were reportedly close to sign the 24-year old during the winter transfer window but were unable to get a deal over the line in time, although the Mirror claimed Manchester United have also made enquiries over his availability in recent months.
Shakhtar are prepared to let the attacking midfielder leave the club, if their evaluation of the player is met.
Barcelona, Arsenal and Real Madrid are also believed to be observing Costa’s situation, but reports from UK suggested Chelsea are in pole position to sign the Brazilian international this summer.
And it the player recently admitted his preferred choice would be to join Chelsea rather than other English clubs, to work under Jose Mourinho.
Costa recently spoke out on his situation, claiming that he would like to join Chelsea if he moved to England, as he wants to work under Jose Mourinho.
He said: “I’d be really interested in moving to Chelsea because I’d be able to achieve everything I want having someone like Jose Mourinho by my side.
“There comes a time when you become sick and tired of playing in the same league. I’m 24 and I think that it’s worth trying to convince them to let me go away.
“It’s time to try a new philosophy and I’m sure Mourinho’s is the best around. He’s always fighting for trophies.
“I’ve also got Willian in London – he’s a friend for life. I spent a few days at Fernandinho’s house after Shakhtar played Manchester United in the Champions League [in December 2013] and I really enjoyed it.
“[If I move to England] I’d have the chance to play in the Premier League, the best league in the world.
“You never know which team will win and that really impresses me – that’s a factor that always keeps athletes motivated.”
