During his press conference before Manchester United clash with Norwich City tomorrow afternoon, Luis van Gaal has revealed that he was really surprised to find out that Jose Mourinho was released from his duties at Chelsea.
Due to the fact that the Dutch coach is under similar pressure at the Old Trafford following United’s disappointing style of play and lack of goals, Portuguese coach’s dismissal may be a warning for him. Moreover, there are growing speculation that Mourinho may replace Van Gaal at United.
Despite this, coach van Gaal seems to be sure of his position at the club and assures that he has a full support of the club authorities. Well Mourinho also until recently was saying similar things about Abramovich’s support…..
Manchester United manager said:
“What can I say? It was a big surprise for me, I didn’t expect it.”
“He’s a fantastic manager with a record that nobody has in this football world, but it is still possible [to be sacked].
“I have said this, last week or the week before, the main thing is always first, the results, and second, the chemistry between players, manager and his staff.”
“I cannot judge what was happening in Chelsea, but I was very surprised [to see Mourinho sacked].”
And he claims that he has the full support of the club’s board:
”It’s fine, but I have said already, more than once, but I have seen articles that it is bit like that [that he has lost the dressing-room],”
“It’s a little bit crazy, but that is the world.”
“I have the full confidence of my board and my players, that I feel, and it’s like that. But we have to get results, we have to win.”
“We hope to give the result everyone is expecting.”
