Arsenal manager surprised everyone by saying that in his opinion Claudio Ranieri built the foundation for Chelsea’s success not Jose Mourinho.

According to the Arsenal coach, Chelsea already had a strong team when the Portuguese coach arrived at Stamford Bridge. What is more, Wenger is convinced that people are making a mistake saying that Chelsea’s supremacy started thanks to the Special One.

Arsenal will face Ranieri’s new team Leicester on Saturday, and during the pre-match press conference, the French manager has praised the Italian coach saying that Chelsea owes him a lot.

Wenger said:

”I remember them finishing second in the league with Ranieri and the team was upcoming with young players like John Terry and Frank Lampard who were the players that contributed to the success of Chelsea”

“I’ve followed his career because I have big respect for Claudio Ranieri. He’s a great manager and a great man.”

”I like him. He has served football in a very positive way. I think he deserves a lot of respect and I don’t see him as a “Tinkerman”

”Look at the team of Chelsea when he left: they all survived after. They were on the way up when he left.”

”Yes, he built the foundations. He did a great job. He bought Lampard; they had Terry, Desailly, Gallas. They had already a very strong team.”
