Alvaro Morata

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, speaking to SkySport in Italy, was also asked on Alvaro Morata‘s exclusion from the starting XI: “These games are fights and you need sacrifice” he said. “We needed a balanced squad, with [Alvaro] Morata and [Eden] Hazard together we would have risked to lose two important players in “non-possession situations. Anyway, Willian and Pedro both sacrifice themselves in a better way”.

“We must understand our players’ characteristics and what they can give you with or without the ball. Sometimes we produce undeserved seppuku, sometimes I am disappointed to make certain decisions but my task is to give balance to my squad and we must exploit all the chances we create”.

About a potential role for Italy, Conte added: “I was clear, I am contracted here until 2019 and I am committed, keen to respect this contract. Then in modern football anything can happen, some marriages come to an end for many reasons: this is our job, very particular job. If something happens, I will be grateful to be named Italy coach again”.

Spanish striker Alvaro Morata was back in action on Monday night vs West Bromwich Albion and now his physical condition is improving, as the Blues’ manager Antonio Conte confirmed.

Alvaro has been training with us regularly every day. His physical condition is improving. Conte said. “He will play a part of the game and he will be ready for the Champions League game against Barcelona”.

During his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s night game vs Hull City, Antonio Conte also spoke about the effect Olivier Giroud could have on Morata and about the possibilities the two will play together in the future:  “Alvaro is a player with a good maturity. The competition is good for the team. A great team must have competition in every position and every role. – Conte said – “Giroud is a good option as he’s very strong and powerful. He can help us for the rest of the season.”

And about the two playing together Conte went on: “In the future it could happen if we decide to play with three midfielders. Now I think it’s very soon to answer this question. We are playing with a system from last season and in this case it means Hazard, Pedro and Willian are out. In this moment it’s very important to have all your players available. To have Morata and Giroud as two options is very important for us. For a lot of time we did play with Hazard as a number nine.”

Chelsea will play vs Barcelona next week in the Champions League last 16 and according to Spanish striker Alvaro Morata they need to play a very careful game if they want to get a good result.

If we can get a good result here, we have to play a defensive game with spaces and try to bother them as much as possible.” Morata told Movistar.

Also, the Blues forward has his say on Lionel Messi, admitting that “Messi can’t be stopped.”

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes tomorrow’s Premier League game vs Bournemouth won’t be easy for the Blues.

According to the Italian coach, some factors have made more complicated the preparation of the game and one of them is the January transfer window:

Tomorrow is a big challenge for us. The transfer market period is finishing, and for many reasons you can have distractions. But I am very happy because I have players with great focus. Today the training, and the commitment and behaviour of my players, was positive. Conte said. “Then we have to face our injury problems. To miss Morata and Willian, and to have Batshuayi’s situation in balance, makes it not easy to prepare, but no excuses, no alibi. We want to get three points against a team who has rested for 10 days. Instead we have had to play every three days. For this reason, the game won’t be easy for us. For sure it’s not the best situation to prepare a league game, but there are these types of situations you must be prepared to face. I ask all my players to be focused on the game, and on our target, which is to play a good game and try and get three points. It’s not right to have a match when there is the deadline of the transfer market. You can have this situation where [players] are doing half and half. Whoever decides the future should reflect a bit before preparing this. There are many coaches who don’t like to have a game when there is the deadline of the transfer window.”

In his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s night Premier League game vs BournemouthChelsea manager Antonio Conte has confirmed three players are not fit and they won’t be included in the team.

David Luiz is suffering an ankle injury; Alvaro Morata returned to Spain for the funeral of a close friend; Willian is still recovering from the injury he suffered last week vs Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semifinal.

On the other hand, Thibaut Courtois and Cesc Fabregas are now fit and they will be back on action tomorrow night.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte revealed three players are not in contention for next Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Newcastle:

“Morata, Willian, Courtois are out,” the Italian said.”

When questioned on their recovery time, he claimed:

“I don’t know because it’s very difficult to tell today how many days they need to come back.

Morata has got this problem in his back, Courtois received a kick in his ankle, Fabregas trained today with us and tomorrow I will check his form.

Willian is out and he will have a scan today to value the extent of his injury.”

During this afternoon pre-match press conference Conte was also questioned about this winter transfer window, that is about to close but, again, he told he has nothing to do with signings, giving all the responsibility to the club:

“As you know very well the club will inform you if there are any news, as I repeated before and I say every three days, I will be very happy to continue to work with my players, to continue to work with some players, my opinion and my mind doesn’t change after only three days.

“I am repeating always the same thing, I am the coach, my task is to try to do the best for this club and to try to improve my players.”

As I said before, for the transfer market there is the club, I don’t speak about this, if there are news they will inform you

When asked if he will be at Chelsea next summer, Conte replied:

Nothing has changed since last summer, I am happy to for with my players and to work for this club, I am happy to try to put everything, all myself, for this job every day.

“I think every competition is important, in Carabao Cup we tried to go until the final, we reached the semifinal and then we lost against Arsenal. Now there is this other competition, FA Cup, we will try to go to next round but as you know very well this competition is very difficult and our opponent have the same idea.”

Conte was also asked about what changed respect to last season with games played every three days in this one:

“I think the players are happy because they want to play every game and this kind of situation is more difficult for the coach, not for the players, because they love to play and don’t have training sessions.”

Ross Barkley made his debut with Chelsea shirt against Arsenal last Wednesday and the manager revealed he is ready to start:

“After a bad injury you need a little time to be fit 100%, if you want to speed this process up he has to play, not only training during the week, after Willian and Morata’s injury, we don’t have other options.”

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is clearly disappointed after tonight’s defeat vs Arsenal, but he believes there were factors other than the Blues performance which determined this bad result.

There is big disappointment. When you arrive at this point you want to reach the final. Conte said. We had a good run, we had a great will to play at Wembley. We started well, scored, but conceded two strange goals. We were unlucky in circumstances”.

And one of these circumstances was Willian‘s injury:  “I think Willian’s injury was decisive. We don’t have many players to make substitutions. Morata was out. Conte went on. “I was a bit forced to play with Barkley. He’s a really good player and important or Chelsea but needs bit of time to get used to playing for Chelsea”.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has to cope with the suspensions of Alvaro Morata and Pedro Rodriguez, with also Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill still sidelined due to minor injuries. Moreover, Thibaut Courtois suffered an ankle injury yesterday, while Drinkwater is out as well for the upcoming Premier League clash against Brighton Hove&Albion at AMEX Stadium.

Ross Barkley was included in the provisional squad which travelled to Brighton yesterday. Conte also selected youngsters Ampadu and Sterling alongside with David Luiz, Zappacosta, Eduardo, and Musonda Jr.

And FA Cup hero Willy Caballero is set to make his first Premier League appearance for Chelsea.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes his side ‘have to pay great attention’ against Brighton tomorrow evening.

“They played a very good game against us at Stamford Bridge, especially in the first half” Conte reckons.

“They are a really good team with a really good coach. We must pay great attention because we are playing a game in only two days at 12.30 and many players played at 120 minutes and the penalties. We must be focused and tomorrow the game won’t be easy and we must be ready”.

About Alvaro Morata: “It is another problem and in this moment it is a big problem. Morata didn’t play long against Norwich and he was resting for Brighton. I have to change the plan, sometimes you have to change the plan if there is a red card or injury”.
