Antonio Conte thinks Arsenal can be a rival not only in the Community Shield today but in the title race as well.

The Italian manager also praised Gunners coach Arsene Wenger ahead of today’s derby at Wembley:

“Arsenal is a potential rival this season because I consider Arsenal one of six teams ready to fight to win the title and I consider Arsene Wenger to be one of the best coaches,” the Chelsea boss claimed.

“He is a very good coach and he has had a lot of time to build his team and his squad, and I think he is the right choice for them. I’m not surprised he stayed because he is one of the best in the world and Arsenal is one of the best teams.”

Conte repeated that his guys have to be aware that the starting campaign will be tougher than the last one, where Chelsea were Champions:

“After a season, it’s important to understand what were the positive things and what were the negative things. This is the situation you need in order to improve and make your team stronger.

“I think, for sure, the positive thing was our formation, our system, because we found the right balance offensively and defensively and it was very important for our season.

“We have to continue to work with our players on specific situations, both offensively and defensively, to try to find a new attack, or a new tactical situation with our defensive line, whether we want to defend higher or lower.

“After a season I think it’s right to review everything to improve your team in a tactical and physical aspect and to change something.”

Conte also feels he has improved as a coach after one year in England and he is now prepared for Chelsea rivals to give everything to prevent the Blues from reclaiming the Premier League crown.

“To be coach for a great team in England is great, but also gives you a lot of responsibility. You know that when you arrive in England, you must be ready to fight with big teams, with big players against big coaches. This league has made me better than before, I am sure about this.

“In England, you win the title and the next season the teams prepare to fight you with all their strength. They go to the transfer market, they try to improve and it is very difficult to repeat the success of the season before.”

It has not been a great start of season for Kenedy: firstly, the 21-year-old Brazilian was sent home from Chelsea Asian pre-season tour because of his offensive China posts; now manager Antonio Conte says the player is not part of his plans for the Blues squad for 2017-2018 season.

“I think that Kenedy last season didn’t play before he went on loan to Watford”. – Conte told the Evening Standard – “He only played 10 minutes. When he went back with Chelsea he played only twice. For him, his development, it is important to find the right solution for him to play regularly.”

Antonio Conte feels next season will be the toughest of his career.

The Chelsea boss explained why ahead of Community Shield game against Arsenal:

“There are many reasons which suggest to me that next season will be very tough, the most difficult of my career, I have this perception,” Conte told the club’s website.

“In England the pressure is high, this is the strongest league in the world because there are six teams ready to fight for the title. Only one team can win it…

“We want to try to fight for the title until the end but it won’t be easy. We are working very well to try to do this. The pressure is always the same. I put pressure on myself and it helps me to give my best.”

“You must ask the club about this” Chelsea manager Antonio Conte replied when asked about the departure of midfielder Nemanja Matic from Stamford Bridge.

It is understood the Italian manager is a great admirer of Matic, who made 40 appearances with Chelsea last season. Tiemoue Bakayoko will replace in midfield the Serbian star, who reportedly asked to leave as he wanted a reunion with former Chelsea manager José Mourinho.

Watford and former Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah has revealed why he decided to leave Stamford Bridge to join the Hornets this summer.

The 22-year-old told SkySports he didn’t want to go out on another loan, then he asked to leave the Blues.

“It’s not about proving anyone wrong. – Chalobah said – It’s about working myself and helping the team out and seeing what I can do,” he said.

“Chelsea offered me a new contract but I wanted to come out and give myself a chance to play. I think being at Chelsea I would have signed a new contract and been sent back out on loan, so that was the choice I had to make.

Then Chalobah added: “The conversation I had with the manager was positive but it was a decision I had to make after being on loan six times, coming back and forth, it felt like if I had signed a new deal I would have been loaned out again.”

Not only the Community Shield: Antonio Conte spoke also about Chelsea transfer market in the press conference ahead of Arsenal clash.

The Italian manager can already work with four new signings: Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata – that all joined Chelsea in the last month, but he claims that the Blues still need another player to revamp his squad:

“For us it’s very important to improve our squad in terms of the numerical aspect because we have a small squad,” said Conte thinking also about the Champions League.

“Only one player is not enough to improve our team, we need more.

“The best way is to try to find the right solution. It’s important the club know my opinion about the number we need. They are trying to do the best for our team and our squad. Now we have to wait and have patience to improve our squad.”

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte spoke ahead of Community Shield clash against Arsenal: the Italian coach is not concerned about some important absences, like the ones of Eden Hazard, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Pedro, all injured:

“It was a pity to lose the FA Cup final against Arsenal after a really great season for us,” he said recalling last May final.

“Now there is another game, we know very well Arsenal are a strong team. We are expecting a difficult game and we want to start the season with a win.

“I think the friendlies have ended for us, this is an official game and the first trophy of the season. It’s an important game, for sure.

“Chelsea and Arsenal are not in the best form because we are in the first part of the season, but we want to play a really good game with high intensity and prepare for the start of the season.’

Speaking about Sunday’s game, Conte said that it’s possible for Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi to play alongside:

“In this moment it could be an option,” the Italian manager revealed.

“When you have Hazard injured, Pedro injured and only Willian, I don’t see other options. For this reason I tried the combination of the two players. For sure, Alvaro wants to play as a number nine but with his characteristics he could play number 10.

“I have another day to make the best decision for the starting 11. Alvaro is working very well and trying to reach the best physical condition and go into our idea of football. He needs a bit of time but he is working very well. I don’t know what my decision will be but he is a really good player and a good person.”

Antonio Conte reveals that Eden Hazard and Tiemoué Bakayoko will skip not only the Community Shield clash against Arsenal but also the first Premier League game against Burnley next week.

The two players are recovering from two different injuries: Hazard broke his ankle while on duty with Belgium in June and Bakayoko underwent a knee surgery last May.

When asked if he knew when the players could be available, Conte said:

“Honestly no. It’s too early and we have to wait and have patience.

“For sure they are improving a lot and recovering very well from their injuries but they are not ready for the start of the season.

“Eden, as you know, has an ankle problem. After surgery it’s important to respect the right time to recover. Bakayoko had surgery in his knee and he is working very well.

“After surgery it is important to expect the right time to recover. Their work is going very well.”
