Arsenal and Chelsea may be the biggest rivals but when it comes to “Ashley Cole” they have a unique collaboration.
Ashley Cole who is currently playing at AS Roma, spent eight years as Gunner before eventually joining Chelsea in 2006. The left back is to receive the honour of being remembered by both clubs as a statue
It will be designed by the sculptor Olaf Lipro and is due to be unveiled in June 2016 in Regents Park.
The location has been carefully chosen as it is equidistant to both clubs. The designer, Lipro said:
“The brief was that, as Cole is held with such affection by both Arsenal and Chelsea fans, I must find a way of marking his time at both clubs. The half half statue is an idea I came up with after seeing fans wearing scarves with two clubs on it.”
The proposal has been approved by both club, but a third one has decided it should be involved too and we’re indeed talking about Crystal Palace, where Ashley Cole played 14 games during a spell loan in 1999
It is believed that Crystal Palace, have requested that at least a sock of the player should be red and blue striped to remember his involvement at the Club.
