Bertrand Traore

“Going from Chelsea was the best decision for me – striker Bertrand Traore told Daily Mail – I am enjoying myself, as a young player you can only improve if you are playing every week.”

The 22-year-old Burkina-Faso international left Stamford Bridge in the summer after 4 years with the Blues since 2014: “I enjoyed my time at Chelsea and when I had opportunities to show what I could do on the pitch, I took them with both hands. – he added – But there wasn’t any guarantee I would play. Yes, I would be happy if it was me in the Chelsea first team playing every weekend, but this is football and you have to take decisions. Along with Chelsea, I took the decision to sign for Lyon and I am happy with that”.

Traore impressed last season on loan at Dutch giants Ajax, before moving to France on a permanent deal. Anyway, “I am good enough to play in the Premier League” he added.

Traore has not ruled out a return to Chelsea in a near future: “Why not, it is up to me to develop and progress as a player and prove that I am good enough to play in the Premier League. Others went back, it is a possibility. I have to focus on Lyon, do my best and see what I do in the future.”

Chelsea are being criticised this summer for selling a lot of their Academy’s players who have the potential to become football stars: between them, for example, Dominik Solanke and Bertrand Traoré.

However, defender Andreas Christensen, another of the players who played on loan last season, believes Chelsea and their youth system are working very well: “I’d like to think Chelsea’s academy helps yong players – Christensen told the Evening Standard -. Some people say that they just abandon you, that they don’t keep an eye on you, but that is definitely not true. “There is Eddie Newton and Paulo Ferreira doing a great job and they visited me quite a few times. They would also send me videos of my games, telling me where to improve. I always watched those videos, would take the advice on board and take it into the next game, even though sometimes I’d forget another thing. I got all the help I needed.”

Bertrand Traorè hits out at Chelsea after his move to Lyon was official yesterday.

The 21-year-old was signed by the French side in a permanent deal for £ 8.8m, with the Blues believed to have a buy-back clause.

The Burkina Faso international, who joined Chelsea from Auxuerre’s academy seven years ago, made just 10 Premier League appearances for the Blues and claims he was never given a fair crack of the whip:

“I was trained at the club, I did everything, two seasons ago I even pushed the holders a bit, but we all saw what happened,’ he said.

“I made a very good preseason and finally I was forced to go on loan, I did not want to repeat the same scenario this season.

‘It was time to look for stability in a club where I would play a leading role, where I would be a ‘cadre’ of the team, I think that here I can do everything to be among these sort of people.”

Olympique Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that Chelsea will earn 15 per cent from any profit if the Ligue 1 side sell Bertrand Traore in the future.

Traore himself, who joined Lyon on a £8.8m move tonight, told OLTV: “I am very happy to be here, to be Lyonnais.

“Lyon has always been an impressive club, with big players and a great history. It is an honour for me to play here.

“When I came here with Ajax a few months ago, I was attracted by the philosophy of the club, with several young players from the academy, and the magnificent Parc OL.

“With Ajax, we had a bit of a similar style of play and that enticed me to come here.”

The Burkina Faso international has put the pen to paper on a five-year-deal.

Lyon are close to agree a permanent deal with Chelsea to sign one of their young strikers, Bertrand Traore.

After spending the last season on loan at Ajax, where he scored 9 goals in 22 appearances, the forward doesn’t seem to fit into Antonio Conte‘s plans and is set to move.

Traore was also targeted by Everton and West Ham but it seems the French side have just to agree some details on the bonus payments with the Blues.

Lyon are ready to invest £ 17.5m plus add-ons to sign the Burkina Faso international by the end of this week.
