Chelsea suffered a disappointing defeat at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace, who earned a vital first win for the relegation battle. The Eagles scored for the first time breaking their goal drought thanks to Cesar Azpilicueta‘s own-goal and Wilfried Zaha.

Liverpool produced a goalless draw with Manchester United, who remain 2nd with 20 points, just behind Manchester City. Watford are impressing game after game and stay above Arsenal after beating the Gunners with late goals by Troy Deeney and Tom Cleverley earlier this evening.

Also Burnley are level on points with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal as Sean Dyche’s men earned one point in a tough clash against West Ham United today.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes new Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata can become a really important player for the Blues, even if he needs more time to adapt to a new kind of football after spending the beginning of his career between Spain and Italy:

“He may not be the most physically imposing of strikers but Alvaro Morata knows how to work the 18-yard box as well as anyone,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

“As he showed at Real Madrid and now against Burnley and Everton this season, he is also a superb header of the ball.

“Morata is nowhere near as physical as Diego Costa but his movement is excellent, nipping in behind defenders.

“As the stat below shows, he does not seem at all fazed by stepping into the want-away striker’s shoes.”

“He’s improving. It’s not easy for the striker and also for [Tiemoue] Bakayoko to arrive and adapt very quickly in our philosophy.”

Paul Merson believes Chelsea’s defeat vs Burnley in their Premier League‘s opener is not so significant and that it’s very early to write off Antonio Conte’s men from the title race.

“Nobody is going to win every game in a season, it’s one game!” – Merson said on Soccer Saturday – “They got dismantled by Arsenal at the Emirates last season, and then all of a sudden they’ve won a dozen on the trot and win the league at a canter. I think there’s a long way to go – the players they’re missing; Eden Hazard, Pedro, Victor Moses, Bakayoko – who could miss them? Chelsea can’t afford to miss a Hazard, as much as Tottenham can’t afford to miss a Harry Kane”.

During his press conference ahead of Premier League‘s game vs Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has praised defender Andreas Christensen.

“I trust Christensen” – Conte said – “I have already said is a player who is ready to play for Chelsea. Last week he played a good game, he showed great personality. He is a young player for sure he can improve a lot but he has a good prospect of being a Chelsea player”.

Three players sent off in just two games of the new season are too much, so Cesar Azpilicueta sends a message to all his team-mates ahead of Sunday’s London derby vs Tottenham at Wembley.

“If you see the last season when we were champions, we didn’t get a red card until the FA Cup Final and now we have had one in the Community Shield and against Burnley” – Azpilicueta told Standard Sport – “We know it is difficult 11 against 11 in this League so obviously when you are 10 against 11 it is even harder. When we are down to 10 men it is really difficult so we have to learn from this and hopefully we can do something on Sunday”.

Antonio Conte is not concerned after the two defeats against Arsenal and Burnley: the Italian boss is sure Chelsea will perform in the upcoming season.

Speaking ahead of Spurs clash he said:

“We are preparing for this game very well.

“We must be focused on the pitch, on the game and try to do our best against Tottenham and not find excuses, but only focus on the game.

“It can happen during a game to receive two red cards and I think a great club like Chelsea must be prepared for this situation,” he claimed speaking of what happened in the last match against Burnley.

“For sure at this moment it’s not simple, it’s not easy but we must be strong to face this situation. I repeat it’s very important not to find an excuse, about this moment. It’s important to continue to work, it’s important everyone gives 150 per cent, and then we can solve the situation.

“The only words I can tell our fans are these: for sure we are working very hard with the players to have a good season.”

Chelsea are preparing for Sunday’s London derby vs Tottenham at Wembley: manager Antonio Conte knows his team have to improve and to prepare well ahead of a tough Premier League game.

“We have one week to try to find the right solution,” – Conte told Chelsea official website – “It will be a really tough game but we must be ready, and show the same will and desire to fight that we did in the second half. We need to show that from the start. We will work again to try to improve to avoid the mistakes we made against Burnley and prepare in the right way for the Tottenham game. I’m not worried because it is normal during the game to have different situations – positive and negative. It is important for me that we don’t close our eyes, but to focus on our mistakes and try to work and improve. We have to put all of ourselves into the job”.

After Chelsea‘s shocking Premier League‘s opener vs Burnley, Paul Hayward believes Antonio Conte has a lot of responsibilities for the outcome of the Stamford Bridge‘s game.

“I think Chelsea have got good reason to feel aggrieved with the way Conte is carrying on,” – Hayward told Sky Sports. – “This grumbling began at the end of last season, and it picked up momentum from the minute they won the title. This message went around that Conte felt he didn’t have enough players to compete on two fronts the following season, that’s standard fare for a manager, pushing early to get bodies in.  But it has continued unabated. When you look at the players they’ve bought, they’ve done reasonably well in the transfer window.  But Conte has appeared relentlessly unsettled or unhappy. Everyone knows that with the Chelsea manager, the owner and the people around him like to play the transfer game, like a bit of a hobby, almost like a poker game that they all enjoy. Conte knew that, but he also knows they won the title and had an extremely good season and had built something to progress from, and yet he seems to want to destabilise everything.”

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte gave his thoughts after the game against Burnley and praised new signing Alvaro Morata, who scored a goal providing also an assist in the second half.

“I think Alvaro has good space to improve, he’s working very well and working very hard to quickly find good fitness and adapt himself to our style of football. – Conte told journalists speaking at press conference – For sure he played very well, he scored a goal and played a good game”.

Then he added: “Now we have to work, we know this. That is the only way for me and my players. I’m not worried because we have to trust in our work”.

“Today there were three injured players, Pedro, Hazard and Bakayoko, and Moses was banned. I don’t know if Pedro will have recovered for the next game but for sure we will have two players banned, Cahill and Fabregas”.

In the last few days Petr Cech not only expressed his frustation on how goalkeepers are selected to play games in different competition at Arsenal, but...
