Even if Chelsea defeated Dinamo Kiev 3-0 one week ago at Stamford Bridge, the Blues manager Maurizio Sarri doesn’t want to underestimate tonight’s opponent in Europa League last 16’s second leg.

I want to send to my team the message that the match is very important. I don’t want to make a mistake in this”. the Italian explained in his pre-game press conference.

Then, Sarri himself gave an irritated response when asked if Callum Hudson-Odoi will be in the Starting XI: Why not (Ethan) Ampadu? Tell me the difference,” Sarri said. “I have a lot of players of course. I know very well that for you (the media) Odoi is the best, but for me I want to see them all at the same level. Odoi is doing very well in the last period. He will be for sure in the 18 – maybe on the pitch, I don’t know. As you know, in the last match Odoi was the first change. So you know very well that Odoi is on my mind for every match.”

On Thursday night, Callum Hudson-Odoi scored his third Europa League goal and the assist was provided by Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The two players grew together in Chelsea’s Academy and this had a role on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge vs Dinamo Kiev: “Even in training we always like to get the ball and play with each other because, obviously coming from the Academy, we like to play a lot, we know when to find each other, when the players are moving, when to give it to them”. Hudson-Odoi told Chelsea official website. “So I think Ruben saw me and he knew that I was in a better position than him so he thought: “let’s give him the chance to score”. It was really unselfish of him and I’m really happy that I got the goal, but all credit to him as well for finding me and letting me get the goal.”

Hudson-Odoi himself is enjoying his first experience in Europa League with the Blues: “Every time I play in this competition I feel confident to get goals and I feel like the team did really well, and obviously Ruben for the goal, saw me and picked me out really well,”he said. “So I think it was a good overall performance and I’m just happy to keep getting goals and keep playing.”

Speaking during his pre-game press conference, Maurizio Sarri explained how his team can beat Manchester City on Sunday, as they did some weeks ago at Stamford Bridge.

I think that we were lucky because we scored in a very difficult moment of the match. Maybe we deserved to win in the second half, but we were lucky in the first as we scored in a difficult moment. In that match we defended really very well as they had only three goal opportunities, no more”. Sarri said. “It is not easy against City to give them three or four opportunities. They had scored 43 goals in 15 matches, so it is difficult and we need to defend well. We need to be very fast when we are able to recover the ball. They are able to press really very well so it is difficult to exit that situation. If we can do that then we can do well”.

The good news is that all Chelsea’s players will be available for Etihad Stadium’s game: “We have only some little problems with Odoi, he had fever for one day. Yesterday we had a little problem with Cahill, his back, but nothing serious”. Sarri revealed. “I think every player will be available. I hope so. We have to do another two trainings”.

Whatever will be the result of Sunday’s match, however, Sarri is aware that there is still a big gap between Chelsea and Manchester City: “I think we can fight for the top four this season, no more”. the Italian claimed. “We can win something, of course, but Premier League there is fighting between Manchester City and Liverpool. I think City are the best team in Europe, it is difficult to win the Champions League. I think that we need to work. You are the most competitive in the market or you need to work, I don’t know another way. We need to reduce the gap”.

After helping Chelsea go through FA Cup last 16 with a goal in the 3-0 against Sheffield Wednesday Callum Hudson-Odoi spoke about his future.

The Blues talent has recently been linked to Bayern Munich, who would like to sign him before this window transfer window ends:

Asked if that was his last appearance in a Chelsea shirt, Hudson-Odoi told the BBC:

“I don’t know, I can’t say. But you know I just keep working hard and you never know what happens.”

He was then asked if he’d spoken to Bayern Munich at all, he added:

“I can’t say. I haven’t, I haven’t chatted.”

Speaking about the goal he scored, he said:

“I think that’s definitely one of my highlights. It was a great game today. I think Andreas [Christensen] found me well, saw the run and it was nice to top it off with a goal as well.”

Turning to man-of-the-match Willian, who was also being interview, he joked: “I learnt it from him as well!”

Willian brace and Callum Odson-Hodoi’s goal against Sheffield Wednesday sent Chelsea to FA Cup last 16 tonight.

New Blues striker Gonzalo Higuain made his debut with the Blues shirt with an average performance and was far to impress but he will have time to adapt to English football.

Chelsea scored his first goal with Willian on penalty,  Hudson-Odoi ( who could move on loan elsewhere in the next days) scored the second goal at 64′ finding space inside the area and firing in off Keiren Westwood to put the Londoners in total control.

Willian then sealed the match at 83′ with an outstanding finish from the edge of the box.

In his press conference before tomorrow’s Premier League game vs Newcastle, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri explained his team are performing very well, but his players are lacking when it comes to score goals.

We need to score,” Sarri stressed. “We need to solve this problem. In the last match we played very well, with continuity and with a very good offensive and defensive phase, and with a great performance from a physical point of view – the best of the season – but we didn’t score. We have to work and try to solve it as soon as possible”.

And, according to the Italian manager, it will be important to score very soon as he expects a game very similar to the ones vs Leicester and Southampton: “I think the match will be the same, but I hope to score in the first 30 minutes,’” Sarri went on. “If the match is the same we have to be patient and improve, not in the offensive phase, but in the box and attacking the box from lateral balls, and improve attacking spaces from uncovered balls. We need to improve in the last 20, 25 metres.”

Also, Sarri revealed that both Andreas Christensen and Callum Hudson-Odoi can feature in the team vs Newcastle even if they played both Chelsea’s cup ties in the last few days. “He [Christensen] has improved in defending by looking at the ball. Now he is ready to play. We have a very good option for David, for Rudiger. I don’t know about tomorrow because he played 2 matches in three days for the first time this season, as Callum did”. Sarri explained. “Callum recovered very well from the first match, yesterday he was a little bit tired but I think that’s normal for the first time in the season when you play two matches in three days. I want to see today the level of recovery.”

In the last few days, Bayern Munich have expressed their interest in signing Chelsea‘s youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Blues defender Antonio Rudiger has revealed his team-mate asked him about the German giants, while now Marcos Alonso urges Hudson-Odoi to stay at Stamford Bridge as the Premier League is the best league to develop as a player.

He is a good player, but he is very young.” Marcos Alonso told Sky Sports. “He needs to have patience and to be hungry and fight for a place in this team. That is all he needs to do. He has all the conditions to be a great player. Now it is up to him to fight for a place here or try to find more minutes somewhere else.”

The Spaniard also claims especially Bayern Munich is not the right place for his young teammate. “Bayern Munich? We are Chelsea, another great team. The Premier League is the most competitive league in the world. I don’t know why someone would go to Bayern Munich.” Marcos Alonso underlines.

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed their interest in signing Callum Hudson-Odoi after announcing Benjamin Pavard will join the club at the end of current season with Bundesliga side Stuttgart.

It has been reported Bayern Munich have placed a fourth bid in the region of £35m to land the 18-year-old to Allianz ArenA in January.

Hudson-Odoi, who featured in last night’s defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium, is contracted at Stamford Bridge until June 2020.

Salihamidzic said: “All I can say about Callum Hudson-Odoi is that I think he’s a good player and he’s a player who we have a great interest in. Anything else, we will see.

“In my opinion, he’s a player who would fit in well at our club. He’s got unbelievable qualities. He’s good at dribbling and has pace. In my opinion, he’s a player we would definitely like to have. Let’s see what happens. “
