Callum Hudson-Odoi

In his press conference before tomorrow’s Premier League game vs Newcastle, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri explained his team are performing very well, but his players are lacking when it comes to score goals.

We need to score,” Sarri stressed. “We need to solve this problem. In the last match we played very well, with continuity and with a very good offensive and defensive phase, and with a great performance from a physical point of view – the best of the season – but we didn’t score. We have to work and try to solve it as soon as possible”.

And, according to the Italian manager, it will be important to score very soon as he expects a game very similar to the ones vs Leicester and Southampton: “I think the match will be the same, but I hope to score in the first 30 minutes,’” Sarri went on. “If the match is the same we have to be patient and improve, not in the offensive phase, but in the box and attacking the box from lateral balls, and improve attacking spaces from uncovered balls. We need to improve in the last 20, 25 metres.”

Also, Sarri revealed that both Andreas Christensen and Callum Hudson-Odoi can feature in the team vs Newcastle even if they played both Chelsea’s cup ties in the last few days. “He [Christensen] has improved in defending by looking at the ball. Now he is ready to play. We have a very good option for David, for Rudiger. I don’t know about tomorrow because he played 2 matches in three days for the first time this season, as Callum did”. Sarri explained. “Callum recovered very well from the first match, yesterday he was a little bit tired but I think that’s normal for the first time in the season when you play two matches in three days. I want to see today the level of recovery.”

In the last few days, Bayern Munich have expressed their interest in signing Chelsea‘s youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Blues defender Antonio Rudiger has revealed his team-mate asked him about the German giants, while now Marcos Alonso urges Hudson-Odoi to stay at Stamford Bridge as the Premier League is the best league to develop as a player.

He is a good player, but he is very young.” Marcos Alonso told Sky Sports. “He needs to have patience and to be hungry and fight for a place in this team. That is all he needs to do. He has all the conditions to be a great player. Now it is up to him to fight for a place here or try to find more minutes somewhere else.”

The Spaniard also claims especially Bayern Munich is not the right place for his young teammate. “Bayern Munich? We are Chelsea, another great team. The Premier League is the most competitive league in the world. I don’t know why someone would go to Bayern Munich.” Marcos Alonso underlines.

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed their interest in signing Callum Hudson-Odoi after announcing Benjamin Pavard will join the club at the end of current season with Bundesliga side Stuttgart.

It has been reported Bayern Munich have placed a fourth bid in the region of £35m to land the 18-year-old to Allianz ArenA in January.

Hudson-Odoi, who featured in last night’s defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium, is contracted at Stamford Bridge until June 2020.

Salihamidzic said: “All I can say about Callum Hudson-Odoi is that I think he’s a good player and he’s a player who we have a great interest in. Anything else, we will see.

“In my opinion, he’s a player who would fit in well at our club. He’s got unbelievable qualities. He’s good at dribbling and has pace. In my opinion, he’s a player we would definitely like to have. Let’s see what happens. “

For tomorrow’s game vs Nottingham Forest, Sarri’s assistant coach Gianfranco Zola has ruled out Willian, Olivier Giroud and Pedro.

The injuries will leave space for some of the young players”. Zola explained. “There are players who have played five or six games in a short period of time, so it will be necessary to do a little bit of rotation”.

One of the player who will be included in the starting XI will be Callum Hudson-Odoi: “Callum Hudson-Odoi is back in full training. Yesterday he trained with the whole team and he is certainly available”. Zola revealed. “It is very much looking like he is going to play.” Not only he is going to play tomorrow, but the youngster will stay for a long time at Stamford Bridge:

I know Bayern Munich are very interested in him but we are as well. We have proposed him a contract for quite a while so we are waiting to see what the player thinks about that. We certainly value him as a player. I know he has not played probably as much as he wanted but this is down to the quality of the players he has in front of him”. the assistant coach went on. “But I have already told him it is not a waste of time. It is a time you can really get better and I hope Callum is using this time in a wise way as it will do good things to his football, and hopefully he will come to sign the contract with us. We believe he can have a bright future here”.

On the other hand, Cesc Fabregas destiny could probably be different: “Cesc has always been a wonderful professional ever since I have been here. I don’t know to be honest”. Zola said. “You are asking me a question I wish could answer. His contract runs out in six months and I don’t know how it is going to go but despite that, I know if he plays tomorrow he will as usual deliver a good performance.”

Callum Hudson-Odoi remains a clear target for Bayern Munch as the Bundesliga giants have returned with a new and improved bid for the 18-year-old starlet earlier this week, according to reports in England.

It has been reported Bayern had two bids (of £15m and £20m) rejected from Chelsea before placing a new and improved one, worth around £30m plus add-ons.

It is understood Hudson-Odoi’s contract is due to expire in June 2020, with less than 18 months remaining on his current deal.

Chelsea have confirmed on Wednesday the signing of Christian Pulisic, who will spend the next six months at Borussia Dortmund before joining the Blues on a £58m move.

Callum Hudson-Odoi remains a doubt for Chelsea as the Blues take on Southampton at Stamford Bridge later today.

However, manager Maurizio Sarri has confirmed he’s confident the 18-year-old “has the potential to become a very important player” for the club in the years to come.

The one against Watford on Boxing Day, when Hudson-Odoi shuddered a minor muscular injury before the final whistle due to a muscular problem, has been his 10th senior appearance for Chelsea.

Sarri told the club’s official website: “I think that Hudson-Odoi is a very good player. The potential is for him becoming a great player and now he has to improve.

With the ball he is a very good player, he has to improve with movement without the ball. As a winger he has to improve in the defensive phase but he has the potential to become a very important player”.

He added: “It is not easy at this level to take the young players from the Academy but not only here, everywhere in Europe. Sometimes there is one or two young players in Barcelona from their academy, sometimes one or two in Real Madrid, zero in Juventus, zero in Paris St-Germain. It is not easy”

“I think we are lucky because we have Ampadu, we have Christensen, we have Hudson-Odoi, so we have players from the Academy. The Academy is really very good.

In Europe there are few players 18 years old with eight appearances at this level [this season] and Hudson-Odoi has in this season played in six or seven matches”.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has confirmed his side “have two problems” as both Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi are still a doubt ahead of Sunday’s clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Italian boss, on the other hand, says his decision to not play Alvaro Morata in Blues’ last game at Vicarage Road was “a tactical choice”.

“We have two problems, the first is more serious with Pedro” said Sarri.

“He has an injury in his hamstring and I think that he will have to rest for about 10 days. The second problem is Odoi, it’s not very serious but I don’t know if he will be able to play in the next match”.

On Morata: “Alvaro now is going very well, he is fit to play. It was only a tactical choice [to not play him against Watford]”.

Chelsea striker Callum Hudson-Odoi was brought off with 5 minutes left to go despite he came off the bench himself in the first half, due to Pedro Rodriguez‘s injury.

When asked to explain the reason behind his decision to substitute the 18-year-old, Blues’ manager Maurizio Sarri told journalists: “He played for the first time this season in the Premier League, he played for 55 minutes very well.

He had a little injury with his hamstring one week ago and ten minutes to go he had pain in the same point. So we preferred to change.

“I can understand [the fans were not happy], but there wasn’t another solution, it was too dangerous.”

Chelsea will face today Vidi in their last Europa League Group stage’s match.

The Blues are already sure to finish top of the table their group so Maurizio Sarri will make some rotations in his Starting XI.

For tomorrow we have three 2000 in the 18. Maybe Odoi will be on the pitch, I don’t know at the moment. Ampadu maybe on the pitch because of Cahill injury. Premier League, I don’t know. I don’t think in Manchester City, United, the other big teams there are 2000 with a lot of minutes. I hope in the future there will be a chance for Callum, for Ampadu. It is up to them I think”. the Italian manager explained.  “Odoi played in August, the Community Shield, two Europa League matches. Tomorrow maybe he is on the pitch so it is four opportunities. I think they have only to play very well in this opportunity. For the moment Odoi did it. Now I am looking forward to Ampadu. The future for them is very important. They have to improve every day. Technically they are very good.”
