Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has urged Manchester United to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Speaking to the Daily MirrorRobson, who was part of the Manchester United side that dominated the early years of the Premiership in the 1990’s, has singled out the Czech as the perfect replacement for David de Gea.

The Spaniard, who is currently the first choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford, appears ever more likely to leave the club in favour of the Santiago Bernabeu and Real Madrid.

Cech on the other hand is also searching for more regular first team football, having lost his place in the starting line up to Thibaut Courtois. The 33-year old has been linked with a move to Arsenal, but has stated he is currently unsure where his future lies.

Robson said in the interview:

“It’s important to bring in players as soon as possible. If De Gea has to be replaced, Cech would be ideal – he could do for the club what Edwin van der Sar did.”

Speaking more broadly about his former club’s need to strengthen and what United’s aims should be for next season, Robson continued:

“Ideally, United will be able to strengthen the back, midfield and attack. And also, hopefully, one or two of the kids will make their mark, as the likes of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes did.

“The first job, though, is to get through the qualifying stage of the Champions League and that’s not a given. There will be some top clubs in the draw with United, so it could be really tough.”

Cech has had a remarkably successful career at Stamford Bridge, with four Premiership titles and a Champions League success in 2012 being his most notable honours.

David Seaman urged Arsenal to sign Petr Cech as the Gunners’ first-choice goalkeeper this summer, as the Czech Republic international is expected to leave Chelsea in the summer.

Among others, Manchester United are thought to be keeping tabs on Cech’s situation at Stamford Bridge as David De Gea is continuously linked with a move away from Old Trafford to join Real Madrid. But Arsenal are also thought to be monitoring him – Wenger thinks Ospina and Szczesny are not at his level.

And now also an Arsenal legend such as David Seaman feels that Cech would walk in as the No1 between the posts at most Premier League clubs. He told Metro: “A lot of rumours that Petr Cech has become available but if De Gea leaves Manchester United then they will be in for him, he’ll be in high demand. Will Chelsea even let him leave to a rival?”

He added: “I think Cech in any squad will make them better, I don’t want to put a downer on Ospina or Szczesny, but Cech is a quality goalkeeper and I don’t think he’ll go to any club where he could be considered a No2. Wherever he goes he’s going to be a No1.”

Cech can leave Chelsea this summer

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has called upon Arsene Wenger to secure the signing of Petr Cech as soon as possible and believes the goalkeeper could make a huge difference for FA Cup winners next season.

Smith also wants Wenger to sign Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and thinks both players could be bought for £35 million. Speaking to Sky Sports, Smith, who made over 350 appearances for Arsenal, said:

“You could buy Petr Cech for £10m, which isn’t big in terms of the fee. You can buy players that can make a difference, like Morgan Schneiderlin, who is available for £25m. That’s not a big fee for Arsenal these days, when you look at how much they paid for Sanchez and Ozil.

“I think he is trying to dip into the transfer market but it’s the positions that he is going to try and recruit that will be interesting.”

Cech has been the subject of fervent speculation since the return of Thibaus Courtois from his three year loan at Atletico Madrid, and is believed by many to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer. Arsenal are just one of many clubs vying for his signature.

Instead of being harassed by questions regarding the demolition of  Aston Villa in the FA Cup final, Arsene Wenger was asked about the potential signing he would make this summer and he said:

““People forget that for years we had to sell our best players, people forget that. It was a very difficult period for us.That is the reality. Since we start to buy again we improve. “People start talking about stratospheric numbers. We will not be in that market for financial reasons.

“I have not made a clear decision of what I will do, but don’t rule anything out or tell you how much we spend.

However when asked about Petr Cech, his ton completely changed and he added:

“If you look at the stats, Ospina is the best goalkeeper in the league. You might not share that opinion, but in the mathematics he is.

“I don’t know what is happening with Petr Cech, we have just won the cup and so I can’t come out and say anything straight after. You will see what we will do by the end of the transfer window”

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly trying to persuade Petr Cech to stay at Chelsea.

Cech is supposed to desire a move away from Chelsea after falling behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and reports claimed a deal with London rivals Arsenal was done “at 99%”.

The 33-year old said he wasn’t sure where he would be come next season, and manager Mourinho has said that, should he have his way, Cech would stay at the club. Regardless,

“He’s a legend of this club but he’s a legend at 32 years old which is a very young legend for a goalkeeper,” Mourinho said.

“One of our strengths this season was to have the two best goalkeepers in the Premier League.”

He added: “I don’t know if we could be champions if he hadn’t played these seven matches. His contribution was decisive.”

As we’re also enjoying the fact that Chelsea are Champions once again after 5 years, we took up the streets of Fulham area to talk ton the Chelsea fans about their excitement, joy shortly before the bus parade. Here is what they had to say:

How does it feel to be Champions again, after 5 years?

Selena: Well it feels so good, it’s been long to wait 5 years but here we go! We are massive Chelsea fans so we really wanted to come down and and cheer up.

John: We still have a way to go (laughing) but it feels so good to be Champions once more, we really deserved it and we stayed at the top since day 1.

Would you describe this parade as the bigger one than the Champions League, three years ago?

Alice: Well, not very much so because Champions league is a European competition so ‘s very massive, but it still great.

John: It’s a different feeling, the Champions League has been something much rarer, I mean for me my generation (compared to his father)

Dominic: Not really , but still this parade means so much for us. We’re champions and it takes the club to a new level and greater status.

The likes of Petr Cech and Didier Drogba will be leaving the club this summer, are you sad?

Nathan ( John’s father ) : It’s quite a shock, especially for Drogba. I thought he would stay on, they should have given him an extra year contract.

Dominic: It’s a great shock to be fair. Drogba’s penalty kick got us the Champions League, he will always be a legend for us. Petr Cech has been so good over the years so we’re quite sad but I’m happy to have witnessed it

Do you think the the departures of two legends is the beginning of a new Chelsea era?

Selena: No, I wouldn’t say it’s the beginning of new era. Jose said we’ve got a magnificient squad of young talents, so I think it is time for the legends ( Drogba, Lampard, Cech) to move on and make some room for the future legends..

Dominic: I don’t think so. Maybe he (Jose Mourinho) can give some players the chance, for example the under 21 so I would say it is the beginning of a new generation instead.

Nathan: He’s building a new team but still needs a team based on experienced players, so hopefully John Terry can have another great year, before he goes too..

Thanks to Alan, John, Dominic, Alice and Selena to share some words with us!

Cech can leave Chelsea this summer

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech revealed he is still open to staying at Chelsea, after speaking to Sky Sports.

Cech played in the club’s last game of the season against Sunderland, but has apparently been trying to negotiate a move away from the club to secure more regular first team football.

When asked whether it was his last game at Stamford Bridge, Cech replied:

I don’t know.

“I still have a year on my contract and now that the season is over I will sit down and think about my decision, what I will want to do, and let’s see, but I haven’t made any decision and I will see how we go in the summer, and what I want to do and I will see my agent as well.

“I will look at the possibilities and then decide because I still enjoy playing at the highest level, and I love playing with the best players in the world and still being on the pitch.

“It hasn’t changed, so let’s see what will happen. “

Cech has been at Chelsea for 11 years and has won all four of the club’s Premier League titles, as well several FA and League Cups, the Champions League and th Europa League. But, the Czech knows that should he choose to leave the club, the decision won’t be taken lightly:

Life is about taking every challenge you can if you want to be successful.

“If this is the end, so be it, and I will take on another challenge, and hopefully it will be as incredible as the journey I made with this club.”

But, the 33-year old also acknowledged that several clubs were interested in acquiring his services:

As I said, we will see and discuss all the possibilities, and obviously we will make the decision which is best for everyone.”

It will be the hardest decision I have ever had to make but that’s football. Let’s hope for a bright future.”

However, no matter what happens, Cech said he very much enjoyed Chelsea’s title celebrations – the first time they have happened since 2010. He was also quick to praise striker Didier Drogba, who was playing his last game in a Chelsea shirt.

Of course it’s been an emotional day not least because of winning the league but also because Didier [Drogba] is making his farewell.

“He’s been a true gentleman of the club and I think he deserves all of this.”

Images on Twitter have reportedly shown Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Petr Cech’s agent meeting Manchester United Chief Executive Ed Woodward.

Woodward is shown meeting Mourinho and Cech’s agent, Viktor Kolar, in the swanky Bulgari Hotel in London.

The photos, which appear to be genuine, give the clearest signal yet of Cech’s destination.

The 33-year old joined the Blues in 2004 but after years of service to the club, he has lost his number one place this season to Thibaut Courtois.

That led to Cech stating a desire to move away from Stamford Bridge, which he has recently been given the green light for.

Chelsea boss Mourinho had previously said that he would prefer Cech to stay at the club, but it appears that the desire for regular first team football is too strong. The Czech has made only 16 appearances in all competitions this season.

Several clubs are reportedly interested in the veteran keeper, including Arsenal, United and Besiktas.

The Reds are still trying to retain the services of their top keeper David de Gea, but with a move to Real Madrid for the Spaniard looking increasingly likely, the Old Trafford side are aiming to sign Cech as a replacement.

Chelsea have found the perfect replacement for Petr Cech in Thibaut Courtois, believes former Blues goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.

The Belgian has been in excellent form at Stamford Bridge, following three loan spells at Atletico Madrid. Despite the challenge of regular first team football, in a different country, the quality of the player has gradually grown.

Schwarzer, who had an 18-month stay at Stamford Bridge, has paid tribute to the 23-year-old, admitting he’s been impressed with how quickly he’s adapted to English football.

He told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT: “Thibaut Courtois started off in Belgium and then went to Spain, which is a very different type of football, and settled in very quickly. There are very few people who are able to change to different leagues as easily he has.

“Look at David De Gea. Over the last 12 months he’s been outstanding but prior to that he’s really had to find his feet and it’s been really tough for him.”

What impressed the 42-year old the most was that Courtois has displaced Chelsea veteran Cech, who is currently seeking a move away from the club to find more regular first team football.

“Thibaut Courtois has come over and he’s hit his stride from day one and he’s actually had to because he’s had Petr Cech behind him and he’s replacing a legend of the club, and someone who has arguably been one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”

Schwarzer is yet to retire from football, and is currently at fellow Premier League side Leicester, whom he moved to from Chelsea in January. He has also played at Middlesbrough, Bradford and FC Kaiserslautern in Germany. He moved from Fulham on a free transfer in 2013, and made 12 appearances for the Blues.
