After the defeat vs Crystal Palace the game vs Manchester City at Stamford Bridge was crucial for Chelsea in their title race.

According to Cesar Azpilicueta The Blues victory not only han guaranteed them 3 points, but has proven they are also mentally strong.

“It was a massive game after the defeat on Saturday. I’m sure our rivals were waiting for us to drop that mental strength and lose points again”. – the Spanish defender said – “We feel the pressure because we know it’s only a month and half to the end of the season and we are in the best position to be in. We were disappointed to lose three points at home to Palace but we recovered and coped really well. We came back in a strong way against a really tough team. We showed our character and we worked really hard.”

Garth Crooks claimed that Crystal Palace duo Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke gave a serious headache to Chelsea defenders on Saturday afternoon.

The defence was one of the strong points of Blues under Antonio Conte, but Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta were seriously on stress against the Eagles the other day.

“The former Liverpool striker led the line for Crystal Palace beautifully against Chelsea and gave David Luiz and Gary Cahill a torrid time in every department,” Crooks wrote in his Team of the Week article for BBC Sports.

“If he wasn’t challenging them in the air and putting them under pressure he was heading away corners in his own penalty area.

“However, it was his partnership with Wilfried Zaha that really excited me. These two boys were responsible for Chelsea’s demise with great link play and two sensational goals.”

It will be a hot summer for Chelsea in the transfer window: not only for the players that might be signed by the Stamford Bridge outfit but also for the ones that could leave, since the impressing form of the team and of some players attracted the attention of many top clubs in Europe, now ready to invest money in the Blues stars.

Cesar Azpilicueta, who moved from Olympique Marseille to West London in summer 2012, has been targeted by Barcelona and the Spanish full-back admits to be flattered by the interest of the Blaugrana:

Right now I am only thinking about Chelsea and I feel loved here. I’ve been here five years now and I extended my contract not long ago,” he told The Guardian.

“It’s flattering to be linked to Barcelona: it means you’re playing well. I wasn’t hearing those sort of stories last season. That’s a consequence of us being top of the Premier League, things are going well.

“My objective since I arrived was to grow as a player and a person. I’ve adapted to the city, to the country. I feel settled, I’m comfortable with the language, my family is very happy. Right now my only objective is to continue with Chelsea.”

While commenting Chelsea win against West Ham on Sky Sports Blues legend Frank Lampard chose his best XI for this Premier League season.

The former midfielder explained that was particularly  impressed by one of his ex team-mates:

“I think David Luiz has matured. He was a very good player before we won the Champions League with him and Gary Cahill as centre-halves in the final but the criticism of him at that point could have been ‘can he make a mistake and does he try and over-play?’

“Since he’s been back, in a role in the middle of a back three, he has shown discipline and quality on the ball. His defensive stuff has been brilliant and I couldn’t leave him out.

“He’s probably the best centre-half in the league, for me, this season.”

This is the XI that Lampard chose:

“Why did I pick Michael Keane? I think we have to give credit to Burnley as a team and to a player who has been let go by a top team and had to go back down the ladder and prove himself.

“I’ve seen some games where he has been fantastic this year. He might not be in everyone’s team of the year – I could have picked anyone from Chelsea’s back three and didn’t want to overload with Chelsea  but you have to give respect to young English players who have made a mark in a team that are defending a lot.

“He has been outstanding. If he goes on, the big clubs will come calling.”
