Cesar Azpilicueta extends with Chelsea until 2020: the full-back, who arrived from Olympique Marseille in 2012, commits to the Blues for four more years.

The Spaniard is looking to make his 200th appearance with Chelsea against Sunderland tomorrow night and after putting pen on the new deal he said:

“I’m really happy to have signed a new contract. Since I arrived here my target was to progress as a player and win trophies. This new contract gives me the chance to continue my relationship with the club, that’s what I wanted and obviously I’m really happy here.

“We’ve had some really good moments so far this season. From day one, we started working very hard. We have a new manager with new ideas and I’m really happy to be working with him. Obviously we can still improve but the long-term aim for us is to win trophies, that is what we all want, the players, manager and fans.”

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta spoke about teammate Cesc Fabregas, who is being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge following a lack of game time under new manager Antonio Conte.

The Spaniard told the Evening Standard: “To have a player like him at the club is really important. We know his qualities, he is a game changer”.

“The passes he did during the win against Manchester City were amazing. He provided the assist for the goal which got us back into the game: Diego scored a very good goal. Not a lot of players can do that kind of pass”.

Then Azpilicueta added: “I have seen him do things like that for years, with Spain as well. The skill that he has is very special. He can see passes before anyone else and is so accurate from such a long distance. Obviously, it is a really difficult thing to do and for others to stop.”

“Does he want to stay? He shows that in every training session and in the games in which he’s played. There is no doubt about it”.

“When some players are not playing, there is always a bit of speculation – Azpilicueta ended – But Cesc has shown really good commitment, great spirit in training and in every game, when he has played and when he hasn’t. I think we will have him”.

Cesar Azpilicueta hails Cesc Fabregas, that was a key man in the win against Manchester City and was back to the starting XI after two months, also thanks to Nemanja Matic‘s injury:

“The passes he did during the win against Manchester City were amazing,” the Spaniard said about his compatriot.

He provided the assist for the goal which got us back into the game. Diego [Costa] scored a very good goal. Not a lot of players can do that kind of pass.

“I have seen him do things like that for years, with Spain as well. The skill that he has is very special. He can see passes before anyone else and is so accurate from such a long distance. Obviously, it is a really difficult thing to do and for others to stop.”

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta commented the win against Boro, after which the Blues got the top of the league:

“Always a win and to be top of the table gives you more confidence because this is where we want be and, obviously, even at this stage, it is important,” the Spanish player said after the final whistle.

I enjoy winning, we are in good shape and we are keeping clean sheets, we are scoring goals and that’s the most important thing. We, the players, are enjoying the way we are playing. It is still a long way to go, but we climbed to the top of the table when we had the chance and we have to keep working.

“The most important thing is to finish, in May, in this position. We are there and we are working to keep this place and to try to be there at the end of the season.”

“We know every game is different. We would like to win every game 5-0, but we know that’s not possible.

“The opponents they play and, today, against some moments we had difficulties but we suffered together and the most important thing is that we have the three points, they are massive points.”

Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta is delighted to work under new manager Antonio Conte as the Spaniard ‘always felt the confidence of the manager”.

“Whatever position I play, I always try to give my best, to do what the manager asked of me with my characteristics,’ – Azpilicueta told the club’s official website – Obviously I’m happy when the team wins and that is what I fight for”.

“The last results were good – four wins and we didn’t concede a goal – so that shows a lot of teamwork and we want to keep going in that way.”

It is understood Conte wants to improve the squad in defensive situations also with more clean sheets: “As a defender, – Azpilicueta said – obviously we are all pleased when we don’t concede goals, the same way the strikers are when they score, but I think the teamwork is really important,”

“We are defending as a team, which as a defender makes it easier for us and we are trying to concede even fewer chances. This is really important to be a solid team”.

“Since we changed the system it has worked well for us in the league and obviously I try to adapt to it in the best way possible”.

Then he ended: “We train hard in the week to do that and we are realising in the game what we do in training. This is important for us, to see the results of all the work we are doing during the week.”

Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta reveals how he helped team-mate Victor Moses to adapt to his new full-back role:

“Victor has played most of the time as a winger but he has to defend in this role now and he needs help,” the Spanish player told Sky Sports

“I have talked with him and explained a lot of the defensive side because he has to adapt to that now.

“He’s offensive-minded, we have seen that when he gets in those positions, but he’s working hard and it’s great to have him in the side.”

Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta spoke after the win against Hull City, explaining how the Blues were back to success:

“Obviously we worked for this clean sheet,” he said to Chelsea official website.

“It’s always nice not to concede goals. The last month we have conceded too many goals and this is bad for the whole team.

“As a defender I obviously don’t like this so from the whole team the message was clear: work together.

“We need to work as a team. The strikers don’t find chances, they need good balls from the back to be able to create chances. The clean sheet is always the work of the whole team; we pressed together.

“In the first half we were playing well – but not very well – and I think we controlled the game apart from the shot Thibaut [Courtois] saved.

“The team looked good but we were not creating enough up front. We were not aggressive, we lost the ball in silly positions.

“In the second half the tempo was higher, we moved the ball quicker and we found spaces between the lines. The people up front created a lot of movement and chances. With the quality we have, it’s difficult to defend.’

“The manager [Antonio Conte] is always trying to find the best solution for the team and for the game,’ he said. ‘Last week we were working on the system, I trained in this position and I’m happy to help the team wherever the manager needs me.

“When you win, it means the training and the whole week was for the result.

“It’s my first time maybe that we play with three at the back at Chelsea from the start of a game. It is important for the team to have different solutions.

“We have players who can play different positions and this gives us more options for the team to be able to create more and be more competitive. It’s a big part for the team to change and to be able to manage different situations.

“It’s up to the manager to choose the best formation for every game. To make a good system, first of all, you have to work together, to run and fight together, to play together – then the system can make the difference.

“All of us – the whole club, the fans – were disappointed with the performance against Arsenal. The only way was to stick together, work hard and here we saw the result. That was important for us.”

Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta believes the Blues’ need ‘to get as close as possible to perfection, even if it’s hard’.

The Spaniard told the club’s official website: “We have to move on quickly – he said – Overall it’s been a good start to the season. We were disappointed with the last game but the team have played well so far, apart from conceding some goals, which is always something to improve”.

“Since the beginning of pre-season the manager has tried to explain his ideas, his methods. We have been working really hard. We had a very good pre-season, even if the results weren’t perfect”.

“Our target was to get in to the best condition for the start of the season which we did, and then to keep going like that because May is a long way away”.

Speaking about new manager Antonio Conte, 27-year-old added: “He’s a very intense manager during games, it’s like he’s playing in it”,

“He shows a lot of passion and intensity, and he wants us players to have the same feeling. He’s the kind of manager who kicks every ball, he’s running after it all the time. It shows his good spirit”.

Chelsea are set to face Liverpool tonight and Azpilicueta is confident that to play at Stamford Bridge could be a strong point.

“Last season every team who came to Stamford Bridge were thinking they could get the points – he said – This cannot happen because it’s our home and we have to be strong enough to get the points”.

“We have shown we can do that in our games so far and with the intensity we have played with. The fans are amazing too and we have to give them what they want, we have to fight for every ball and try to play good football, and then in the end, most importantly, get the result”.

“Chelsea v Liverpool on a Friday night, it’s an exciting fixture and we want to make sure we start the weekend in a good way”.

Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta was obviously disappointed after losing two points at Swansea but he could see some positive things in this draw the team obtained in Wales:

“It’s a huge disappointment because we had control of the game for most of the time. We came here to get three points and to go away with one is disappointing.

About the Swans second goal he said:

“The second goal was a clear foul on Garyut the spirit of the team was very good.”
