Cesc Fabregas played a key role in Chelsea‘s victory over Manchester United last time out. The Spaniard, who was involved in the game as attacking-midfielder, helped Kante and Bakayoko providing several assists for Alvaro Morata alongside with Eden Hazard.

“We had plenty of chances, especially in the first half, – Fabregas confirmed – We probably could have killed the game off in the second half to be honest, but it was a very good performance and the game was a little bit more open that we expected”.

“We prepared for the game in a certain way because we know they like to defend. We know they like to close one side and move across, and we felt if we maybe left the interiors open, and attacked in the space, we could create problems, and that’s what we did”.

“We had more possession than ususal which, for me, is something we’ve been lacking. We had the personality to play and we said before the game that it’s fantastic to defend well, in a block, but we need to play. This is a team, in my opinion, with fantastic players and we need to take advantage of that. We had a lot of the ball, we created chances and we played like a big team. We should be proud”.

Fabregas added: “If you play for Chelsea Football Club you need to win every single game, there is no game bigger than another. I understand that for the fans and the media, Chelsea against Manchester United will always be a big game, but you go to any stadium in the Premier League now and it’s difficult, we experienced it at Crystal Palace”.

“We just have to keep going. It’s fantastic to get three points before the international break and now we must prepare for our next game in two weeks”.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was full of praise for Spanish striker Alvaro Morata: “Don’t forget this is the first season he is playing regularly, while in previous seasons he never played regularly” he noted speaking after the game against Manchester United.

“Now he has to try to work, to improve. Before his injury he was playing in a fantastic way. After his injury his form dropped, but now he is improving”.

Morata’s header secured Chelsea a vital win against the Red Devils, who are now just one point above Blues.

“Morata played a really good game against three physical, strong central defenders. – Conte added – He showed he is strong physically and he has good technique. If I have to find a negative aspect, he could have scored more goals and killed the game”.

“Also this season we changed many players, and our age is lower than last season, with Christensen, Morata, Rudiger and Bakayoko. We must have patience with these type of players, and then try to improve them and to build something important together”.

“Hazard as well played an amazing game. He was always involved with and without the ball, he created a good link with Morata, and with the rest of the team”.

The Italian manager said: “To have the possibility to play with three midfielders was very important. This season we are struggling a bit to find the best solution for this team”.

“Last season we found great balance with the system 3-4-2-1 – Conte added -But this season we changed many players and we have to find the best solution game by game”.

Chelsea were dominant in midfield with Kante, Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas in the attacking third: “We showed good balance tonight, – Conte confirmed – We created many chances to score, we could have been more clinical, but it’s okay. A good win for us”.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was asked about his decision to rule David Luiz out of squad to face Manchester United today. “It’s very simple. – Conte said – The coach has to make the best decision for the team. Tonight the best decision for the team was to play with Christensen and to have Ampadu on the bench, young players, really good players for the present and the future”.

“Maybe in the future I can decide in a different way, or continue in this way. I must take the best decision for the club, not for a single player. Sometimes I can make mistakes or sometimes I can do the best thing”.

The Italian manager confirmed ‘it was only a tactical decision’. “This can happen to any one of my players. If I see they are not in good form, it’s normal. I have to put my face in every situation, and sometimes make important decisions. Today I did this, and Christensen played an amazing game. I was very happy for this.’

The Blues earned a crucial win for their title hopes, as the Italian manager confirmed: “We played with great energy, with great passion and with great enthusiasm. It’s great for me, the players, the club, but above all it’s great for our fans, to breathe this energy, to breathe this passion, to breathe this enthusiasm”.
