Goalless draw at half-time between Chelsea and Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 which is been playing at Stamford Bridge.

Ernesto Valverde‘s side dominated the ball possession, but the best chances were for Antonio Conte‘s Blues: Willian hit the post twice with two shots from outside the box, at 33′ and 43′.

Hazard went close to score twice as well, but his shots were just a little wide.

The only chance for Barcelona was an header by Paulinho that went wide.

A very unlucky Chelsea that showed character and pace.

Antonio Conte revealed that he will be happy to give another chance to left-back Abdul Baba Rahman.

The Ghana international signed for Chelsea from Augsburg in summer 2015 but never really impressed at Stamford Bridge, so he was sent on loan to Schalke 04, but he picked up a really bad knee injury while at the Bundesliga side.

Almost one years has gone by since he got injured, but Baba is not fully recovered yet: the 23-year-old is trying to re-get his fitness at Cobham Training ground, so Antonio Conte has got the chance to supervise his work day by day and confessed he would like to give him one more chance:

This player is coming from a bad injury, he’s struggling a bit to recover his best form.

“I don’t know what will happen with Baba, under the human aspect I would like to give an opportunity to come back stronger, now he’s facing recovery, he is showing a great patience because he’s struggling a lot, I would be happy to give him a chance, because there is not just the player, there is also the human aspect.”

Tomorrow’s night League Cup game against Nottingham Forest will be a good chance for some Chelsea youngsters to collect some playing time and show the manager and the fans what they are capable of.

Antonio Conte confirmed that he will give some minutes to the young players that don’t usually start in today’s press conference ahead of the clash:

“The next game could be a good opportunity to give chances to players who didn’t play a lot (so far),“the Italian boss revealed.

“I think tomorrow can be a good chance for Musonda and Kenedy.”

Kenedy got himself in trouble during Chelsea summer tour in Asia after an offensive social media post, but Conte claims the Brazilian winger has learned from the incident.

“He knows very well what happened in China. He knows he made a mistake. Now he’s focused and working very well.”

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte spoke ahead of the FA Cup clash against Brentford today and, first of all, he assured everyone about Gary Cahill’s conditions after the terrible clash with Ryan Mason in last weekend’s game against Hull City:

” Cahill is fine, he has trained with us since Tuesday, he doesn’t have any problem, he never had, because he hit his forehead, he’s also mentally fine. I am sorry for whay happened to Mason and I wish him and his family the best and I hope to see him soon on the pitch.

Celtic goalkeeper Ryan Gordon was linked to Chelsea as a possible substitute of Asmir Begovic, who could move to Bournemouth before the end of this transfer window:

“I don’t know about many names I read, for sure there is this situation about Begovic and Bournemouth, but he is an important player for us, also in the chaning room, I like his commitment, if we get a player to substitute him he can go, otherwise he can stay here.

Rumours today suggesteted that Branislav Ivanovic is close to leave Chelsea after nine years, with offers from WBA and Zenit St Petersburg:

“I don’t know about his chances to leave, there are a lot of speculations, a lot of lies, but also there is some truth in some situations, there are four days to finish this window, and then we will see this situation.

Continuing to speak about the transfer window, Conte said:

“I don’t know what will happen before the end of this transfer window, if we stay with these players I am very happy as well.

“I think we have to improve our squad with the number of players, because in some roles we don’t have many.

“I don’t reveal what know about the transfer window because it seems you know more than me [he jokes] but anyway, I repeat that if some players are coming it’s to improve the squad, and I will have confidence in them, but if no one comes I am happy as well.”

Asked if he will play the FA Cup game with the Anfield clash against Liverpool in his mind, he said:

“It’s a good opportunity to see players that are not playing very much, tomorrow it’s an opportunity for us and for me, we want to win, we want to go to next round, I try to make the best decisions for our team tomorrow.

“I think we have to see game by game, last game, if we lose we have just the league to play, so it’s really impotant for us to go through. I will start to think about Liverpool after this game.

“Begovic will play tomorrow? Yes, he starts, he is a Chelsea player and people have to understand this,  and for me he stays.

“I understand why he [Begovic] has to leave, but also the players have to understand me and the club. We are open to help him, if there are the conditions he will leave, otherwise, this is the situation.”

The Italian gaffer was asked if Nathan Ake will have a chance tomorrow, and in which position will he play, in case:

“He’s got the possibility to play in different positions, for me, he’s got the chance to show me how much he improved.”

Also Kenedy and Musonda came back after ending their loan spells:

“Kenedy and Musonda are young players, with a good prospect , if we take this decision to stay here, I think the players will be very happy.

ChelseaNews24 asked Conte if the youngsters tha have been with him since the start of the season will stay or will go on loan and if they got a chance to play tomorrow:

“Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Chalobah will stay for sure, Ola Aina maybe goes on loan, tomorrow we won’t see them.

The boss also said that there are no injury concerns for tomorrow’s clash.

And speaking about players that didn’t have much playing time, he said:

“Batshuayi got a chance to show me that he is improving tomorrow.”

Conte also explained why he wants to go through in the FA Cup:

“To have another competition besides the league is very important for us, we don’t play the Champions League this year, it’s good to play more competitions to keep motivation high. This is the oldest competition in the world and for me it’s an important trophy to try to win, you know better than me that anything can happen in the FA Cup, especually if you don’t go with the right concentration, the right focus, tomorrow it’s a tricky game and we must go to win to go through the next round.”

Great news for Chelsea and his fans after the first games of this Premier League fixture: title race rivals Liverpool drew 2-2 at Sunderland today, losing 2 precious points at 85′, when Sadio Mané – who had scored the 2-1 goal – provoked a penalty with a handball in the box trying to deflect the ball on a free-kick.

Now the Reds sit second in the table with 44 points, 5 less than Chelsea that got 49, but the Blues got a game in hand, to be played at White Hart Lane against Tottenham on Wednesday night.

A positive situation for Conte‘s guys, that now have the chance to increase their gap with Liverpool in case of a win against Spurs, that would bring them at 52 points, 8 clear on Klopp‘s side.

Meanwhile, other title rivals Manchester City won 2-1 in their home game against Burnley, so now they are third with 42 points.

Speaking to the Evening Standard Chelsea forward Bertrand Traore, now at Ajax, slammed the Blues loaning system, claiming he didn’t feel trusted by the club:

“I felt, and feel, that I am ready for Chelsea: I don’t see the loan [picture] overall. Why did I play so much in pre-season?

“Why was I allowed to participate so often under Guus Hiddink [last season]? Why do young players get no real chance at Chelsea?

“It’s good for the composition of the squad if it is also home to a couple of talented youngsters.”

“He knows that he has the chance to come back to the national team one day.

“It’s always important to be called back by the national team.”

Ex Chelsea defender Papy Djilobodji completed a £ 8m move to Sunderland last summer and insists that he wasn’t given a good chance at the Blues:

“I always said I wanted to play for a great club, make a nice career, and Chelsea is a great club There, I was doing all I could – I worked in training, I showed that I was an option. But I never got my chance, the coach never let me play.

“I want a little revenge, because at Chelsea, I never got my chance. I worked in training, and all went well. After that it depends on whether the coach likes you or dislikes you.”

“I always dreamed of playing in the Premier League but for me, now, the Chelsea page is turned, and I’m concentrating on Sunderland.”

Djilobodji has made five starts for the Black Cats since the club paid Chelsea £8m for his signature.

Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink spoke about Blues youngsters in an interview to the club official website.

The Dutch coach always stressed his interest and pleasure in growing new talents, a thing that he would like to help with also in the upcoming season, since Blues academy is one of the best in the world.

He claimed that in these last games his wish is to give the youngster more playing time to give them the experience they need to start next season, that will be really important for Chelsea after this disappointing campaign:

“It’s important to understand that he must get used to the intensity of the games,” said the manager about Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

“The last game against Villa, he had a cramp on 70 minutes but rather than substitute him, we let him go to have this experience. When there are more tight games in the score, when you’re 1-0 down, then we have the right, and I will do so, to change whoever it is”

“I said after the Aston Villa game that it was a good win, but we have to take into consideration that the opposition was, with all respect to a big club like Aston Villa, different to what you are normally confronted with in other games.

“I said we should see what we can do in bigger games and it was a bigger game [against Swansea] because of the importance of the game for Swansea. Then you can make a good judgement about any player who is playing and who came in.

“I hope [the young players] don’t get used to [losing]. They must get used to winning and try to be in a winning situation always. In the long run of a competition you have a defeat, but there must also be a reaction. You can almost see, in big games and after big games, how they react.”

Ola Aina, Kasey Palmer and Charlie Colkett were named on the bench for the first time against Swansea and Hiddink sai they can chances to make their debut with the first team in the six upcoming games, citing the case of Bertrand Traore as an example for them.”

Traore could have gone on loan in the winter and I talked to him and said it would be better to stay half a year and he wished to do that,” the Dutch manager explained.

“We made a programme with him and he responded very well and made good progress.

“First, in training you must make this progress because if the gap is too big I don’t want to put him in a big pond and he is drowning. He has to keep up to that level. These three guys you mention are the same – they are now participating as much as possible in our training sessions.”

England coach Roy Hodgson admitted the Three Lions are missing a leader like John Terry.

The Chelsea skipper retired from international games four years ago, in 2012, claiming the FA had made his position untenable by holding a disciplinary case against him after he had been acquitted in court of racially abusing QPR player Anton Ferdinand during a game with the Blues at Loftus Road.

Terry made 78 appearances with his country shirt and now Hodgson reveals this number can increase, because there is a small chance the Chelsea captain can be called for EURO 2016:

“There are, in my opinion, no left-sided centre-backs who are English playing in the league who are at least at the level of the ones we are choosing,” said the England boss, whose side have shipped four goals in their last two friendly games.

“That’s a fact of life and there’s not much we can do about it.

“I’m not 100 per cent certain outside of John Terry, because he’s retired so long ago and he doesn’t feature in my thinking too often.

“But I can’t deny that is a valid point. He is a left-sided centre-half, although not a left-sided player. He’s right-footed, but he retired four years ago.

“I had a long chat with John the other day, he’s a lovely fella.”

In the last few weeks Chelsea's manager Maurizio Sarri has been "under siege" with many fans demanding his sacking by the London club. However, midfielder Mateo Kovacic spoke out and praised the...
