Chelsea winger Pedro underlined the importance of passing through the next FA Cup round after beating 4-1 League One side Peterborough at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

The Spaniard told the club’s official website: “It was a good win for us in the third round of the FA Cup, especially at home in front of our supporters, there was very good teamwork and we’re very happy with the result”.

“Peterborough are a good team, every game in England is very tough, it doesn’t matter which division you’re in. They fought to win”.

Pedro played in a wing-back role, which is a new position for the former Barcelona star: “I had once chance in the first half which was unlucky, I shot very hard and it went up, but I’m happy to have scored two goals,”

“It’s a new position for me but it means the same in terms of work. I had to run a lot but it was good for me and a good performance”.

Chelsea bounced back from the last disappointing defeat against Tottenham in Premier League at White Hart Lane, as Pedro remarked: “Against Spurs it was a different game, we lost, but no problem, we just continue taking it game by game”.

“Next we face Leicester, a very difficult team, but we will prepare all week and go for the win”.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte recalled Nathan Ake from his season-long loan at Bournemouth and the Italian manager told journalists that the Dutchman was called back to feature with the first squad.

“I called him back because I think he’s showing that he’s ready to stay in the squad of Chelsea – Conte said – Chelsea is his home. In the last season he played with Watford, and this season he was with Bournemouth. He’s shown he deserves to stay at a great team like Chelsea. I’m pleased he’s come back”.

The former Feyenoord and ADO Den Haag youngster provides Chelsea more solutions on the pitch, as Conte himself confirmed.

“Ake gives me an important option because we are playing with three central defenders. He can play on the left and in the middle. It’s important to see in training sessions if he can also play wing-back”.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, speaking after FA Cup clash against Peterborough, told journalists: “My club knows my opinion about transfer market. In January it’s not easy. In this window it’s very difficult to find great players but we are seeing if we are able to find the opportunity to improve this team”.

“We will continue with these players, – Conte added – Ake is coming back and Kenedy and Musonda are working with us. It’s important for me to evaluate this profile and make the best decision”.

“We are at the top of the table with this squad and I’m grateful to my players for this. If we find the opportunity to improve the squad, we will do it, but I’m very happy to work with this group of players”.

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi scored once in the Blues’ rampant victory against Peterborough this evening.

“Michy played a good game. During the game he stayed with our philosophy and idea of football – manager Antonio Conte said after the game – He showed me great commitment and work-rate and it’s always important for a forward’s confidence to score”.

Then Conte added: “He has to continue to work in this way. He’s young, he’s improving and he showed that today. It’s important for him to give me the opportunity to have another solution.’

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte said he’s ‘pleased with the performance and the result’, speaking at press conference after the FA Cup clash against Peterborough today.

“I’m pleased because we’re in the next round of this competition. Today we changed nine players because I had the opportunity to see some players who haven’t played a lot”.

“I saw a lot of positive things, we faced a good team but we showed great commitment and showed we were a team. That’s the most important thing because when you change nine players it’s not easy to quickly find your idea of football. Now it’s important to continue”.

About defender Kurt Zouma, who came back from a terrific knee injury: “Zouma came back after 11 months and played 90 minutes, which is fantastic for him, his family and the club”.

“The young players [Chalobah, Ruben and Aina] showed me they are growing. Michy played a good game and scored a goal, so there were a lot of positives”.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte claimed that captain John Terry did not deserve to be shown a red card against Peterborough in the FA Cup third round today.

“I think it wasn’t the right decision, – Conte told journalists speaking at press conference – Behind John there was [Branislav] Ivanovic. It’s a pity because a red card is not good. Maybe we’ll do an appeal because he didn’t deserve this.”

When asked about Terry’s future at Stamford Bridge, Conte added: “Now we are in January. First of all, these decisions need to be made with the club, not alone”.

“I’m pleased for John because he’s shown me great commitment when I’ve asked him to play and also when he doesn’t. He’s helping me a lot in the changing room. He’s proving himself to be a good player and, above all, a good man.’

Michy Batshuayi took his chance as Conte expected

Another young flying talent to recognise is: “Batshuayi”… the 23-year old really took his chance to make his stake” in the Chelsea team in this afternoon’s third-round FA Cup Tie against Peterborough where he was fantastic on the attack. Manager Antonio Conte said before the game that the youngster should “make his stake in the team” and make the most of the “rare opportunity”.

After playing only 82 minutes of football in the Premier League this season since his £33million arrival in the summer, the Belgian has sent a message to Antonio Conte to ensure he has clear striker options.

FA CUP - THIRD ROUND: Chelsea 4 - 1 Peterborough United

Chelsea 2 – 0 Peterborough United

  • Pedro (18′minutes)
  • Batshuayi (43′minutes)

In today’s FA Cup Third Round at home Chelsea lead 2-0 with a Pedro goal after 18 minutes followed by a second by Batshuayi.

Pedro almost scored a second goal but clipped the top corner of the cross bar after a lovely attacking move which saw him have an easy clear chance.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has emphasised the chance for Michy Batshuayi to make an impressive impact. And after 44 minutes Batshuayi “staked his claim” in the team as the manager wanted by scoring Chelsea’s second goal. It was a late goal approaching the half-time mark just as Peterborough were trying to get back in the game after a missed chance by the Blues.
