BERTRAND TRAORE

Chelsea could be hit with a transfer embargo after a report in the London Evening Standard claims that the Blues broke FIFA regulations over the signing of Bertrand Traore.

Traore, who is now 20, played in an Under-18 friendly against Arsenal in 2011, when he was aged just 16.

However, FIFA rules prevent the international transfer of any player who is under 18 years of age, with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona all hit with hefty transfer bans and fines in recent years for committing the same offence.

However, Chelsea have tried to present the validity of Traore’s transfer. In a statement, the club said:

“Bertrand Traore was registered by Chelsea FC in January 2014 in compliance with FA and Premier League Rules.

“Prior to that date, he was party to an option agreement which enabled the club to acquire his registration in January 2014.

“The option agreement was registered with, and approved by, both The FA and the Premier League.”

The club have also said that they believe that the Burkina Faso midfielder had an option agreement in his contract, allowing him to play in friendlies.

International transfers are only permitted for players over the age of 18 – unless the player in question meets one of three qualifying criteria.

Minors can move to a club in a different country if their parents move there for non-footballing reasons, if they are from another nation within the European Union or European Economic Area and aged between 16 and 18, or if they live within 100km of the club.

Traore is yet to make an official appearance for the Blues first team, but impressed on a loan spell at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem last season.

It is unclear on what punishment Chelsea will receive if found guilty of breaking regulations, with FIFA stating:

“We are not in a position to comment on any investigations that are ongoing so as not to compromise the process, nor do we provide any comments as to whether or not any investigations are under way.”

Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has today completed his move to MLS side LA Galaxy.

Cole, 35, has been out of favour at Roma since joining in the summer of 2014, making only 11 appearances for the Serie A side. Cole went on to terminate his contract which had one year remaining.

The former Blues full-back made over 200 appearances for the Premier League side, winning the Champions League, FA Cup, Europa League and Premier League in an eight year spell.

Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill has fears that his lack of recent appearances may affect his place in next summer’s Euro squad. After being a regular in last season’s league-winning team, he has found appearances hard to come by due to the consistent performances of Kurt Zouma.

Cahill has played just 12 matches this season and may seek a move away from the club to secure a seat on England’s plane to France next summer. After signing from Bolton in January 2012, he helped the Chelsea team win the Champions League and has picked up 40 England caps.

But, according to Reuters, Gary Cahill has found himself at a ‘crossroads of his career’.

Today Chelsea have confirmed Brazilian midfielder Ramires has left to join Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning.

The transfer is reported to be in the region of £25 million, which will be seen as a coup for the man who’s made 15 starts this season, but has mainly been on the fringes of the squad.

Having been at Chelsea for 5 and a half years Ramires scored vital goals, most notably in the 2012 Champions League semi-final against Barcelona and in the 2012 FA Cup final during a 2-1 win over Liverpool.

It is rumoured that Leicester City are in the running to sign Loic Remy during the January transfer window.

The unfavoured Frenchman is contemplating a move away from Stamford Bridge due to the lack of game time he has received. Remy is said to be reluctant in joining The Foxes because they already have in form strikers at the club, the likes of Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaki and Leonardo Ulloa. All 3 have been in some great form of late and all 3 have been scoring goals. However, since August 2014, no Chelsea player has a better goal/playing time ratio than Remy. He is scoring a goal every 105 minutes. Diego Costa is second with a goal every 131 minutes.

Loic Remy is worried that his lack of match time will play a big part in his selection for the French National team for the Euro’s that take place this coming summer. If Leicester cant guarantee the 29-year-old regular playing time, he may be forced to lean towards Newcastle, who are understood to be wanting the player on loan.

After his man of the match display against his former club Arsenal on Sunday, Cesc Fabregas believes he is back to his best.

Speaking to Chelsea’s Official website the Spaniard said “I’m nearly there, I’m feeling very sharp. My brain is much quicker than the last few months, I struggled a bit.

“I don’t know why it left, but the sharpness is back. Under pressure I’m much more in control, I’m not shaky, but of course my team-mates make it easier for me.

“But in the last year I’m in the best form right now.”

With the Blues entering a crucial period they will hope their playmaker can re-produce the form he showed in last seasons campaign.

BRANISLAV IVANOVIC

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has said his side’s extra work on the training ground has warranted their recent good results.

The Blues beat second-placed Arsenal on Sunday, meaning they are still unbetean since the arrival of Guus Hiddink as interim manager.

Speaking to the Chelsea website, Ivanovic, who has recently signed a one-year contract extension, said that the performance deserved three points:

“It was a very important win and as a team we deserved it,” the Serbian said.

“The key point was our team spirit and after the game we can be happy with the three points. We started really well and controlled the game until the red card. We wanted to score another goal and, honestly, I think we deserved the win.

“We played a hard game against an opponent who always ask questions of you if you want to take something from their stadium. It could be a real turning point for us but we need to be focused on the next game.”

Between the home match against West Brom on 13th January and the trip to Watford next Wednesday, Guus Hiddink’s side have been playing one match per week, and Ivanovic has said that this extra training time is proving extremely beneficial:

“The first thing we have to say is that we’ve had more time to work, we’ve had a week between games and we’ve worked very hard,” Ivanovic explained.

Our physical condition is better and the result is that we are showing it on the pitch.

“We are really working hard because when the games start coming every three days we won’t have time for that.

“The cups are always a chance to win trophies and make the season positive, but we still have to think about the Premier League.

“We are starting to play as a team which is very important. During a year it can be good or bad and you have ups and downs. This season a lot of times we have been down so we are trying to make half the season positive, that’s what we’re looking for.”
