The CIES Football Observatory has released today their latest ranking of most valuable footballers in the world. Eden Hazard came in the second place ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. The winner once again proved to be Lionel Messi.
The Football Observatory is a research group within the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), a private foundation affiliated to the University of Neuchâtel, in Switzerland.
The CIES calculates transfer values based on an econometric algorithm that takes into account player performance, age, position, contract duration and results achieved by their team.
Eden Hazard quite suprisingly has been clasified higher then Cristiano Ronaldo. However the position might be understandable considering winning The Premier League Championship, PFA Player of the Year Award and ESPN FC top 50 Players in the Premier League rank.
It seems that the only prize missing is the Balon d’Or.
