Antonio Conte is pleased his tactical changes in the defense worked well yesterday: the Italian manager played with a 3-4-3, with the three back that experimented a new way to play that Conte already used while being in charge at Juventus and as Italy’s coach:

“It can be a big change in the tactical aspect. More than the system, what’s important is the principles, then you can change.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte told SkySports the Blues’ away win against Hull City today has been the best answer following the last two disappointing defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal.

“I’m pleased for all the players because I think in this championship it is the second time we have had a clean sheet and it is important after two defeats – Conte said – In the last four games we have conceded always two or three goals so to finish the game with a clean sheet is very important.”

“We scored twice but we could have scored more. Anyway, this is the way we must follow, work, work, work and try to improve our football a lot.” the former Juventus manager ended.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is confident that his side can improve a lot also in the defensive situations despite having conceded 55 goals last season.

“It was already in the last season, Chelsea conceded 55 goals – the Italian manager confirmed – We must work a lot in this aspect to avoid these situations, if you want to think for a great championship you must not concede so many goals”

When we conceded goals the whole team conceded goal, not only the defense and this means that we must improve. Anyway, if the opponent think this, I think the opponent also think we can score a lot of goals.”

Antonio Conte analysed the start of the season with Chelsea FC official website and, of course, he is satisfied about how the season began, but there are some important concepts he wants to stress:

“I’m pleased to score the goals, it’s always important to score one more goal than your opponent, but to keep a clean sheet is also important for the confidence of the whole team.

‘When you keep a clean sheet, the whole team works very well, not only the defenders. When we concede a goal, all of the team concedes a goal.

‘If I am able to choose our way to defend it is to go forward and not behind. When you stay too much behind, there is the long ball and anything can happen. We are improving this aspect.”

With Thibaut Courtois suspended following his red card against Manchester City, second choice Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has a chance today to prove himself in goal against Bournemouth.

Begovic left Stoke City last year in the move Stamford Bridge but has yet to cement his place as a first team regular. Statistics suggest that Begovic has had more success between the posts at Chelsea, keeping 8 clean sheets to Thibaut Courtois‘ 6.

There is much speculation over the future of Courtois leaving an opening for Begovic to get first team football at Stamford Bridge, however, there is also speculation that Begovic could be keen on leaving in the summer seeking more game time at another club.

Reports suggest that if Begovic doesn’t receive the game time he wants, he too will leave the club with teams like West Ham, Everton and Crystal Palace waiting in the wings to sign him.

Chelsea boss José Mourinho took the stage tonight at the Player of the Year Award gala dinner to address the crowd with a legendary funny speech.

The best manager in the Premier League had prepared it quite well, as a graphic representation came out with a football pitch:

This a normal football pitch, with two goals and one ball

Then José goes on:

Then one team came – shirts that resemble Manchester United ones come up- and claimed that they wanted to play without goals – goals disappear from graphic and ball starts to bounce between the ‘players’- and was just passing the ball, the quality of ball possession is really beautiful but..no goals!  They asked to FIFA to play like this, but no way…ball possession doesn’t give you victory in football

Then another team came- shirts that resemble Manchester City come up- and they claimed they wanted to to play with just one goal, and they were scoring a lot of goals, some beautiful goals, and they asked to FIFA to play like this, but no way

The another team came- shirts that resemble Arsenal come up- and they were more normal because they wanted to play with two goals, scoring also some beautiful goals, but they asked to the international board to play from January to April, and they were told is not possible”

The another team came- shirts that resemble Chelsea come up- and this team was more normal, playing with two goals, scoring goals, some beautiful goals, but they knew also that to win they had to defend well, conceding few goals and why not having ‘clean sheets’, and they knew that in football to win you have to score ONE MORE GOAL than your opponent, and if necessary, sometimes…park the bus! – bus come up in the Chelsea goal. So that’s why this team won“.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown, now a pundit for BBC, stated that Chelsea will have to watch out from Gunners in the next season, since Wenger side will be serious title contenders.

Arsenal have having an impressive run in the Premier League in the last two months: since the defeat with Spurs in the beginning of February they put 8 wins in a row,  keeping also 6 clean sheets in 2015: a form that projected them to the second place in the table, just 6 points behind Chelsea – that still got a game in hand- and with clash to play at Emirates against the Blues in ten days.

Asked about who will will the Premier League title this year, Keown replied:

Chelsea will win it now but if you ask them next season they won’t fear anyone but they will be aware of Arsenal. They will want to challenge next season and they will want to start well next year”

“They need to strengthen in one or two positions but I’m not talking about wholesale changes which some others may have to make if they want to compete”.
