Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola believes the Blues should confirm Antonio Conte as their coach for next season, but it’s crucial, for the club and the Italian manager, to overcome their problems.

I think he [Conte] is an asset for the club. He’s a good coach, without doubt – he’s actually one of the best around. Zola told talkSPORT. “At the moment there are certainly some problems. If the club and manager want to continue – and I think that will be good for the club – they should sort them out because the competition out there is so incredible. There is no league in the world where you see teams get so much better every year – it’s so competitive off the pitch and on the pitch.”

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard hasn’t performed his best in this years campaign. He had a poor run of form previous to Christmas and injuries have also hindered his season.

It’s been revealed that Hazard has added pressure this season after making a bet with his two brothers, Thorgan and Kyllian, before the campaign began. So not only does he have the pressure of impressing his new manager and performing for his team-mates and fans, he also has a competition with his brothers to win. Thorgan Hazard, Eden’s younger brother who plays for Borussia Munchengladbach, has been talking to The Set Pieces, telling them that he and his two brothers have a bet on who can score the most goals and get the most assists during the season.

“We have a competition every year also with my other brother who plays in Hungary [Kyllian].

“It’s a simple one, too – the player with the fewest goals and assists at the end of the season buys dinner for the other two brothers.

“I need to score and give assists because I don’t want to pay. For the moment it’s a big competition between us.”

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is convinced that the Blues are finally heading in the right direction with their performances. The Special One promises that his team will try to build on an impressive performance against Leicester on Monday at King Power Stadium.

Mourinho told the Chelsea official website:

”We need results, it doesn’t matter about the competition”

”We need to win matches, win points. We need what we are now having regularly, which is lots of clean sheets, very few goals conceded.”

”We have defensive stability now but we need to score more goals. Even against Porto we could have scored five. Diego and Hazard are not scoring goals but the way they played against Porto, sooner or later goals are coming. Their performance against Porto was very good so at this moment I’m less worried than I was.”

”Independent of the last defeat against Bournemouth, in the last couple of months everyone is improving, the team is improving. We are going in a good direction in terms of the level of individuals and the team consistency.”

”We had some good results where we could say this is the end of such a bad period, but we are always having negative results which bring us back to a position we are not proud with. The performance on Wednesday in a high-level, pressurised pressure match was so good.”

”Last season the team was fantastic and he was fantastic, he had huge responsibility in the quality of our team, he was fundamental. This season he is at the same level as the team. The team is not playing especially well.”

”Last season you could say it was an amazing season for Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry . This season it’s more difficult to say a certain player has been magnificent, you have two or three where you could say that.”

”I don’t see Cesc being any different than the team. Every minute he is on the pitch the commitment is there, the professionalism is there. He’s always trying and never afraid to play, have the ball or make a mistake. He has my complete trust.”

”We like to play at Stamford Bridge, the fans are being unbelievable with us”

”I feel like I don’t know how to react when the people are so nice, when they sing my name and say “stand up for the Special One.”

”When you are champions and winning matches you wave, you share the emotion with the people. Now I know for sure Chelsea fans don’t have memory problems, they don’t need a special vitamin to feed their memories, they are amazing. If not they wouldn’t treat me and the players as they are doing. They wouldn’t create a nice Stamford Bridge for us, so for sure we want to play at home, that’s not a problem for us.”

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is convinced, that Diego Costa’s  aggressive behaviour on the pitch is caused by his competitive edge.

The Spanish international has outlined, that in his opinion, Costa’s behaviour is only a positive for Chelsea.

Fabregas told Chelsea official website:

‘‘He’s very competitive; it’s good, he’s hungry for success and to win all the time,’’

‘‘You can see the fans love him as well, they get behind him all the time so it’s great for us.’’

The Spaniard also commented on Chelsea victory over his former team Arsenal :

‘‘I’m happy for the victory, that’s the main thing,’’

‘‘We were on a bad run and now we are playing better, confidence is higher, we don’t want to stop here.”

‘‘We went into a bad run, every team has one in a season and hopefully we’ve had ours. We’ve taken off and we hope this is just the beginning of what will be a big season for us.’’

Petr Cech looks set to leave this summer after spending most of the time on the bench

The 32 years old has made 331 appearances for the club in 11 years but has hardly featured on any game this season, as Thibault Courtois is the number one goalkeeper in the team

In the past few weeks there has been speculation about his future and Petr Cech looked set to join Inter MIlan but it now looks he will he be heading to Paris instead.

Former Blue player and coah Ray Wilkins was speaking to BeIn Sport yesterday night during the PSG vs Barcelona game and said Cech would sign for PSG this summer. Petr Cech is 32 years old but still has several years playing at a high level

Should PSG sign the keeper, they would have beaten Arsenal, Inter MIlan and Liverpool in the race to sign him.

Vincente Del Bosque has admitted there is a lot of competition for places in the Spanish squad, especially when it comes to the midfield.

Subsequently, Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas may never be seen as a first choice starter for his country.

He was left on the bench for the entire 90 minutes during their 1-0 victory over Ukraine last Friday, and he claimed he always knew he would have to fight for his place.

Spain have a surplus amount of quality in their midfield, with the likes of Andreas Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and David Silva all fighting for places.

His coach stressed the fact that Fabregas may have to sit on the bench on  occasions, despite having a very good first season at Chelsea:

“Fabregas is one of the players who is named in the squad regularly, but there was much competition in the midfield area in 2012, when we played six midfielders.

“There are less midfield places now that we play with a striker, so sometimes he is picked and at other times we play someone else.”

Fabregas will be back in action for Chelsea when his side face Stoke City at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Petr Cech

Chelsea’s goalkeep Petr Cech has hardly featured in important games this season contrary to Thibault Courtois and is looking to quit the club this summer.

The keeper has mostly been on the bench this season since Thibault Courtois signed for the Blues last summer. Asked whether or not he has come to term with it, he said:

“I’m used to playing 50 or 60 games a season, not 15 or 20. That’s a big difference.”

Although Courtois and Cech are getting on really well with each other, the 32 years old added:

“It looks like it works well with me and Thibaut as a duo. But that can work for one season only. I don’t want another one like this. It is no secret that I want to play more. The situation is the same, it hasn’t changed. But at the end of the season it will be solved.”

This must be really hard for Petr Cech who has been the undisputed no.1 keeper for a decade and has just started four games in Premier League.
