As England captain Manchester United star Wayne Rooney was entitled to vote for Ballon D’Or winners.

His first choice in the players was the winner, Lionel Messi, followed by Bayern Munich’s star Thomas Muller and his former Red Devils’s team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

But the surprise arrived in Rooney’s votes for the top manager, adding fuel to the speculations of the last month: his first choice was ex Chelsea manager José Mourinho, who won the Premier League with the Blues last year and was repeatedly rumoured as the next Manchester United’s boss after his departure from Chelsea before Christmas.

Mourinho always had a huge respect for Rooney and praised him many times, he also tried to bring him to Stamford Bridge soon after he returned to Chelsea in summer 2013, but Manchester United refused the Blues’ offer.

Probably Rooney just wanted to show his respect for the manager who beat him and his team in the Premier League last year and that praised him so many times, but his choice was not unnoticed and who knows that he can pay respect to Mourinho in person really soon.

Former Chelsea player and trainer Ruud Gullit is convinced that Eden Hazard should work less in defensive areas of the pitch in order to rediscover his best form.

In his opinion, the Belgium player should conserve his energy on the final third of the pitch just like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi do.

Gullit said on the BBC’s ‘Match of the Day 2:

“He worked too hard [against Spurs]”

” I want him to be sharp in front of goal. He kicks the ball, head’s down, head’s down, he still has to run forward.”

“This is a sign of a player like: ‘Oh my God. I have to run again.’ All players know that, when you put your head down like that.”

“He is as important as Ronaldo is for Real Madrid. He is as important as Messi is for Barcelona. Do they chase back as much? No, because they need to save their energy for the right moment.”

“He did it to prove a point but to get the best out of him, I don’t want him to chase that much. I want him to concentrate on the moments that the team gets the ball. ”

“They have to give him the ball as quick as possible and then he does his thing. When that is coming back, he’s going to get goals again.”

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that he is not surprised by Jose Mourinho’s difficult situation at Chelsea but he hopes that the Special One can turn things around at his team.

Ronaldo worked under Mourinho between 2010 and 2013 when the Special One was in charge at Real Madrid. And it’s no secret that both of them had a pretty frosty relationship at Santiago Bernabeu.

Ronaldo told BBC Sport:

”Mourinho’s situation? I’m not surprised because in football anything can happen…”

”As a Portuguese man, I want to see the Portuguese at the top level all the time”

”Of course, he’s a manager that I was working with for two years and I know his potential. I know that not just him but Chelsea are in this tough situation”

”So this is what I wish for him that he can go through this bad situation and make Chelsea fans happy because they deserve it.”

Eden Hazard will top Real Madrid’s transfer wish list next summer after club President Florentino Perez decreed that the ten-time European Champions should make every effort to sign him.

Hazard, 24, has been a target for Real Madrid for some time and is now they believe they can exploit the apparent schism that has appeared between player and club. Hazard, who has been poor this season by anyone’s standards, let alone his Player of the Year award winning exploits last term, was dropped for Chelsea 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

Hazard signed for Chelsea from Lille in 2012 with Chelsea’s Champions League victory weeks earlier inspiring him to turn down a move to Manchester United. Last season was by far his best as he helped the Blues win the Premiership title for the first time in four years with himself getting the winning goal against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge in the game that secured it.

Despite signing a deal that will keep him at the club until 2019, Hazard remains a Real Madrid target and speculation is only made worse by Zinedine Zidane, believed to be Hazard’s childhood idol, working at the Santiago Bernabeu as Real’s youth coach. Zidane has himself spoken of his admiration for the Belgian.

Real Madrid have a long history of paying huge money for the Premiership’s best players with David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale all leaving England for the Spanish capital in the recent past. Jose Mourinho said in 2014 that anyone wishing to sign Hazard would have to pay £150 million.

Chelsea donated £1 from every ticket sold for Saturday’s 2-0 over Arsenal to Plan International a charity for refugees making their way to Europe, and many of the continent’s top clubs were equally generous at the weekend.

European football has seen an unprecedented outpouring of empathy for refugees and migrants escaping from war torn countries, particularly Syria, while politicians have hesitated over how to solve the crisis, be it through donating gate money, auctioning shirts or inviting the children of those who have made it to safety as mascots.

Bayern Munich, the biggest club in the country most appear to be going, started the goodwill by opening a refugee centre designed to help refugees integrate into German society, as well as donating one million Euros to the relief effort. Banners with the message “Refugees Welcome” have become a common feature at Bundesliga games this season. Vfl Wolfsburg invited over a thousand already settled refugees to their Champions League game against CSKA Moscow for free.

Real Madrid acted likewise by setting up football camps around Spain and inviting a Syrian family to the Santiago Bernabeu; the son being Cristiano Ronaldo’s mascot. PSG donated a million Euros while charitable initiatives have been set up by Serie A club Roma.

Chelsea have been the Premiership’s most generous club, with £1 from every ticket sold in their 2-0 win over Arsenal going to charity Plan International- the Gooners having done something similar recently- and selling the shirts from Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Israeli club Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
