After a cautious first half from both sides, Real Madrid led 1-0 at the break after an early goal from Sergio Ramos. Although Atletico had more possession, they didn’t look like scoring.

Early pressure from Atletico Madrid, a cross from the right gave Torres a chance to head for the ball. Ramos cleared. The ball was then played along the ground in the box towards Fernando Torres. He turned to spin and Pepe brought him down. Penalty!

Greizmann stepped up to take the penalty. MISSED! He hit the ball hard and struck the underside of the crossbar. The score remained 1-0 to Real Madrid.

After 10 minutes of playing time in the second half, Atletico looked much more aggressive in their attacking play and also pressing higher up the field when they didn’t have the ball.

Atletico looked more threatening as the game progressed. On the hour mark, some interchanging passes on the right wing and the ball found it’s way to Saul Niguez in the box, he struck the shot on the volley but couldn’t steer it towards the goal.

A foul on Ronaldo on the edge of the box gave Gareth Bale a shooting opportunity. Bale hit the ball but the wall did it’s job and the ball flew out for a corner. The resulting corner came to nothing.

With 20 minutes to go, Madrid found themselves sitting back and inviting pressure from Atletico. Real got the ball forward to Benzema on a counter attack, he got through on goal but Oblak stood up well and parried the ball away to safety.

A chance for Ronaldo, now playing down the middle, a through ball to him and he took the shot early but straight at the keeper.

Atletico went straight up the field on the attack, 10 minutes to go, the ball down the right wing, a volley cross and Carrasco couldn’t miss from 3 yards out. GOAL!

Atletico Madrid equalised with 10 minutes left to play.

Real Madrid 1 – 1 Atletico Madrid

Both teams attacked well in the final 10 minutes. Torres with a chance but couldn’t hit the target from a tight and angle.

Bale had an opportunity, Oblak made a good save and from the resulting corner Pepe headed over the bar.

Real Madrid with some good build up play. Modric with a ball wide to Marcelo, he fired the cross with pace across the box but a Real Madrid player couldn’t make contact.

Late action in the game, Carrasco breaks forward on the counter attack into the Real Madrid half. Atletico looked dangerous until Sergio Ramos came across with a cynical foul, a foul in which he received a yellow card.

The game ends Real Madrid 1 – 1 Ateltico Madrid.

Extra time to be played.

Sky Sport Spain report that Real Madrid decided to put Cristiano Ronaldo on the market for the next summer transfer window.

The Portuguese star is already 31 and his contract with the Merengues will expire in 2018, these are the reasons why the Blancos want to get rid of him.

The club and his agent, Jorge Mendes, would already had a meeting on this, fixing his price to €60m, around £ 50m.

A top player as Cristiano Ronaldo can make an impact in every side in the world but his price is not affordable fot all the clubs, anyway there are several teams in the Premier League that would pay £ 50m to sign him immediately: among them his ex club, Manchester United, but also Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Chelsea star Eden Hazard is rumoured to have already reached an agreement with Real Madrid to move to the Spanish capital in the next summer transfer window.

But Blancos ex midfielder Alvaro Benito claims the Belgian would find difficult to settle at the Bernabéu:

Hazard now has no place in the Real Madrid,” he said at sport show Jugones.

“We are already seeing problems with this type of team players like Isco or James.

As you see on the left side, but there plays Cristiano Ronaldo.”

As England captain Manchester United star Wayne Rooney was entitled to vote for Ballon D’Or winners.

His first choice in the players was the winner, Lionel Messi, followed by Bayern Munich’s star Thomas Muller and his former Red Devils’s team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

But the surprise arrived in Rooney’s votes for the top manager, adding fuel to the speculations of the last month: his first choice was ex Chelsea manager José Mourinho, who won the Premier League with the Blues last year and was repeatedly rumoured as the next Manchester United’s boss after his departure from Chelsea before Christmas.

Mourinho always had a huge respect for Rooney and praised him many times, he also tried to bring him to Stamford Bridge soon after he returned to Chelsea in summer 2013, but Manchester United refused the Blues’ offer.

Probably Rooney just wanted to show his respect for the manager who beat him and his team in the Premier League last year and that praised him so many times, but his choice was not unnoticed and who knows that he can pay respect to Mourinho in person really soon.

Former Chelsea player and trainer Ruud Gullit is convinced that Eden Hazard should work less in defensive areas of the pitch in order to rediscover his best form.

In his opinion, the Belgium player should conserve his energy on the final third of the pitch just like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi do.

Gullit said on the BBC’s ‘Match of the Day 2:

“He worked too hard [against Spurs]”

” I want him to be sharp in front of goal. He kicks the ball, head’s down, head’s down, he still has to run forward.”

“This is a sign of a player like: ‘Oh my God. I have to run again.’ All players know that, when you put your head down like that.”

“He is as important as Ronaldo is for Real Madrid. He is as important as Messi is for Barcelona. Do they chase back as much? No, because they need to save their energy for the right moment.”

“He did it to prove a point but to get the best out of him, I don’t want him to chase that much. I want him to concentrate on the moments that the team gets the ball. ”

“They have to give him the ball as quick as possible and then he does his thing. When that is coming back, he’s going to get goals again.”

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that he is not surprised by Jose Mourinho’s difficult situation at Chelsea but he hopes that the Special One can turn things around at his team.

Ronaldo worked under Mourinho between 2010 and 2013 when the Special One was in charge at Real Madrid. And it’s no secret that both of them had a pretty frosty relationship at Santiago Bernabeu.

Ronaldo told BBC Sport:

”Mourinho’s situation? I’m not surprised because in football anything can happen…”

”As a Portuguese man, I want to see the Portuguese at the top level all the time”

”Of course, he’s a manager that I was working with for two years and I know his potential. I know that not just him but Chelsea are in this tough situation”

”So this is what I wish for him that he can go through this bad situation and make Chelsea fans happy because they deserve it.”

Eden Hazard will top Real Madrid’s transfer wish list next summer after club President Florentino Perez decreed that the ten-time European Champions should make every effort to sign him.

Hazard, 24, has been a target for Real Madrid for some time and is now they believe they can exploit the apparent schism that has appeared between player and club. Hazard, who has been poor this season by anyone’s standards, let alone his Player of the Year award winning exploits last term, was dropped for Chelsea 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

Hazard signed for Chelsea from Lille in 2012 with Chelsea’s Champions League victory weeks earlier inspiring him to turn down a move to Manchester United. Last season was by far his best as he helped the Blues win the Premiership title for the first time in four years with himself getting the winning goal against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge in the game that secured it.

Despite signing a deal that will keep him at the club until 2019, Hazard remains a Real Madrid target and speculation is only made worse by Zinedine Zidane, believed to be Hazard’s childhood idol, working at the Santiago Bernabeu as Real’s youth coach. Zidane has himself spoken of his admiration for the Belgian.

Real Madrid have a long history of paying huge money for the Premiership’s best players with David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale all leaving England for the Spanish capital in the recent past. Jose Mourinho said in 2014 that anyone wishing to sign Hazard would have to pay £150 million.
