Chelsea‘s defender David Luiz believes this could be a great season for the London club.

Asked what the Blues could win, the Brazilian defender suggested Chelsea could conquer all the competitions where the team are playing: “You must see it as a great opportunity,” Luiz told the Independent “When you play for a big club and a big must play in many competitions it is an amazing opportunity. It’s better to play than to train and you keep having games. I’m a lucky guy because I always play for a big club and big clubs always try to win titles and I love that”.

David Luiz also gives a lot of credit to the Blues’ manager Maurizio Sarri for this great start of the season both for his tactical skills and his human values: “I’ve won with great teams here and I’ve lost with great teams here. I think this team is trying to improve every single day. The manager is here for three, four months now and he’s trying to improve our style of football, our philosophy. The Premier League is not easy and this is just the beginning. We must keep our feet on the ground but the results they are coming because we are working hard every single day.” David Luiz explained. “I’m so happy because Sarri is a great human. He knows how to teach us, he knows how to improve us. So when it’s like that it’s easy to understand and easy to try to be a fantastic player on the pitch. We can get better and we have to think that way. We have to work at improving every single week.”

Chelsea defender David Luiz believes Manchester United “came with a plan just to defend and play on the counter-attack” in their first-half at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian star told Chelsea’s official website: “We tried to win from the beginning of the game,’ he said. ‘We controlled the game with possession, trying to create some space to score some goals. They came with a plan just to defend and play on the counter-attack”.

“I think in the first half it was just us who played. We could have done better by scoring the second goal to kill the game, but it is never easy to win in the Premier League, especially against a big opponent”.

“It gave them a chance because we had only scored one goal and in the second half they came and scored a lucky goal with the ball touching a player and bouncing about”.

David Luiz confirmed José Mourinho‘s men were far better in the second period: “After they scored they had a bit more confidence, and it was a great game. This is the Premier League against fantastic teams, so we have to keep going and try to work hard”.

“Even though we were 2-1 down, we kept trying to score the equaliser and we did that in the end so I think the spirit was amazing. This was a big game against a big club, and it is always like this. We have to realise we had amazing spirit to try and score the second goal and we did that in the end”.

“We are happy we have gone this many games without losing, but we are keeping on working hard to try and improve our team because it is just the beginning”.

Last season, David Luiz fell out of favour with former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and was forced to watch from the sidelines as the Blues failed to qualify for Champions League.

The Brazilian defender told BT Sport how close he was to leaving Chelsea if the former Juventus boss had stayed:

“I had a contract with Chelsea. I had two offers from different clubs but I said to Chelsea I want to stay and so I’m going to wait and if Chelsea take a different manager I’m going to show them and stay in Chelsea and that’s what I did.”

Luiz is now a regular starter under new boss Maurizio Sarri and seems to have gained his confidence back.

“What a goal from the Magician” wrote Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley just a few hours after Eden Hazard‘s masterpiece which ensured a capital win at Anfield and one more step in the Carabao Cup 2018/19.

“Win in a very difficult pitch, in a very special field” says Alvaro Morata, while captain Cesar Azpilicueta had more than a positive word for Chelsea fans: “Happy for the win and qualification in a difficult stadium! Now’s time to focus on Saturday! Thanks for your amazing support”.

Emerson Palmieri leveled up the score with 10 minutes left to go, before the Belgian star secured a massive victory with a stunning slalom goal to complete a massive comeback. Palmieri wrote on Instagram: “What a great night, what a moment!!! First goal, qualification and very happy to play my first 90min this season! Well done Blues!”

“It is all about team spirit” believes defender David Luiz, who scored an amazing free-kick with Chelsea at Anfield back in 2017, under Antonio Conte’s management.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa League against PAOK, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri explained why Eden Hazard, Mateo Kovacic and David Luiz stayed in London instead of travelling with the rest of the squad:

“First of all David Luiz is in Cobham because he is playing very often now after six months without playing and so I thought it was better for him to have training and rest.

“The second is Mateo Kovacic only for the little injury in the last match against Cardiff. And the last one is Eden Hazard because he told me that after the national team and after the match against Cardiff he was a little bit tired so I thought it was better to stay in Cobham, to have training and to rest.”

The Italian coach has also revealed that he has not briefed his players on the toxic atmosphere they are likely to receive inside the stadium tomorrow night.

“My players are professionals so they must be able to play in every situation. As I said before I am worried about the opponent because they are a very good team not the atmosphere in the stadium.

Chelsea defender David Luiz is enjoying a massive start to the new Premier League season as the Blues earned 15 points from 5 games so far under Maurizio Sarri‘s management.

The Brazilian star, speaking after a comeback win against Cardiff City, told Chelsea’s official website: “I love his philosophy. It’s amazing. Before everything he is a great person, as a human he talks with us every single day, he enjoys what he does.

He is a guy who really loves football, and it’s always special to work with people like him”.

Sarri himself has confirmed he still believes Man City and Liverpool are favorites to lift the title at the end of the season. Also David Luiz had his say on it: “In the Premier League you have to think game by game. Chelsea is a big club which will always fight for titles. It doesn’t matter the name of the competition.

This year it’s a great opportunity for us if we continue in this way, but it’s too early. We have to keep our feet on the ground and work every day”.

After a difficult season because of many injuries and a difficult relationship with former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, now Brazilian defender David Luiz is enjoying his life at Stamford Bridge and he has regained a place in the Blues’ starting XI.

David Luiz himself believes his new happiness in London is linked with the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as the new Chelsea boss: “First of all he’s a great person, great as a human. I think his philosophy to live life is already great because he wants to enjoy every day, David Luiz told Chelsea’s official magazine. “He wants to be happy and he wanted to take this opportunity to start one more chapter in his life. I think that is one of the most important things in life: when you love to do something, when you’re happy.”

The Brazilian defender also claimed Sarri’s work and philosophy is useful for all the team: “So, I believe in this philosophy, and then after that he is a great coach. He wants to play with the ball, he wants to play with intensity, to work on the details and to give us all the information he can about the next game and the opponent”. the defender explained. “Every week he tries to make the best plan possible for the exact game and this is great because he is working in the best way for the team, for the collective.”
