Chelsea defender David Luiz ‘wants to stay’ at Stamford Bridge, his agent confirmed.

The Brazilian’s current deal at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of current season and the board is interested in offering him an extension only for 12 months, as their policy for every Chelsea over-30 player.

However, his representative Kia Joorabchian is quoted do have said: “We are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea.

“We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club. I’m sure something will be worked out.”

It’s still unclear if Brazilian defender David Luiz will sign a new contract with Chelsea or not, but Luiz himself has made clear which is his first choice for his career:

We are still talking, let’s see. Let’s see what the future brings,” the Blues player told Eurosport. “I love this club, everybody knows I want to stay”.

Chelsea defender David Luiz scored a vital goal in the Blues’ home win against Man City at Stamford Bridge earlier on Saturday.

The Brazilian defender, speaking after the 2-0 victory against the Citizens, told Chelsea’s official website: “It was a great game, all the team did great”.

“You have to be honest, I think we were playing against the best team in Europe at the moment. They are together more than three years, they have great players and are playing very well”.

David Luiz added: “We accepted we had to suffer when we had to suffer. We had a lot of humility, and then we took our chances to score. We did a different plan to try to win the match and it worked well”.

“We have trained a lot this season to try to improve. We had some bad results, but the humility was the key. We keep fighting and we keep our feet on the ground”.

Chelsea sealed a crucial win at Stamford Bridge against Man City and get back to winning after two away defeats (against Tottenham Hotspurs and Wolves, last time out).

The Blues deserves an extra credit as they scored with their first attack in a tough first half.

Goals from N’Golo Kante and David Luiz are enough and mean that Chelsea are still in the race for the Premier League title after getting 34 points from 16 games so far.

Maurizio Sarri, who marked his first ever win against Pep Guardiola, held the Citizens to their first defeat in the league. For the visitors, David Silva limped off with a hamstring injury

Liverpool are now leaders of the Premier League table with 42 points, one ahead of City and 8 ahead of Chelsea.

MAN CITY (4-3-3): Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Delph; B Silva, Fernandinho, D Silva (Gundogan 66′); Mahrez (Foden 83′), Sterling, Sane (Jesus 52′)

TalkSport pundit Adrian Durham criticised Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri after the Blues suffered a 3-1 defeat at Wolves.

The popular journalist claimed the West London side will struggle to reach the top 4 this year:

“I would love to hear from Chelsea fans because I’m pretty certain that they would agree with most of the points I’m about to make,” Durham started.

“There’s no pace up front for Chelsea: Callum Hudson-Odoi has to be given a chance in the first team at some point. How he hasn’t had one I do not know.

“I’ve heard stories about a loan spell, just get him in the team! There’s no pace, no zip, it’s not full of energy, it’s not bright. Get him in there and see what he can do.

Durham suggested even more changes:

Ethan Ampadu in for David Luiz, it’s a no brainer. Luiz cannot defend, Ampadu can and Ampadu can do all the things Luiz can. If they want him to balloon a 30-yard free-kick into orbit like Luiz does then he can do that too!

Olivier Giroud over Alvaro Morata… always, always, always has to happen! How Morata started last night I do not know.

“Put Kante where he belongs. Even with Jorginho out of the team against Wolves Kante wasn’t where he belongs because Fabregas was there. Ridiculous!

Ruben Loftus-Cheek always has to start.

“Full-backs need a kick up the backside, Sarri needs to stop smoking because that’s a level of unprofessionalism that he’s bringing into Chelsea Football Club.

“Right now, what Chelsea are on course for is a place out of the top four and Eden Hazard wanting to leave.

“He [Sarri] is steering them, he’s hurtling them towards a place where Chelsea do not want to be and it’s not good management.”

Sarri conference

During his pre-game press conference, Chelsea‘s manager Maurizio Sarri said Wolverhampton will be a tough opponent tomorrow night for the Blues Premier League match.

I expect a very difficult match. They have technical players, they were unlucky in the last two matches, but it is not easy to play there”. the Italian explained.

Sarri also confirmed every Chelsea player is fit for tomorrow’s game: “I spoke with the doctor ten minutes ago, but we have no injuries at the moment”. Sarri said. “We have a little problem with Kovacic and Alonso in he last match, but they are ready to play. We have one more training session”.

The Blues manager also admitted Ruben Loftus-Cheek is becoming a very important player for Chelsea: “He has played in the Europa League and League Cup, some in the Premier League but not starting”. Sarri explained. “At the moment he is very important for us. He had some problems to understand what I wanted, but he is improving and in the last two matches I have been very happy with him. I want him to stay with me, with us”.

Finally, Maurizio Sarri commented on Azpilicueta‘s new contract and reflected also on Fabregas and David Luiz‘s situations: “He is important for the club, staff and team-mates. I am very happy with the contract” the Italian said about Azpilicueta, while on David Luiz and Fabregas he went on: “I spoke with the club about this one month ago. I know very well it is not easy, but I think we can do a new deal for both. They are very important players for us. It is very difficult to find a centre-back for this level and it is difficult to find a centre-midfielder technical like Fabregas, so I think they have to stay with us. The deal is very difficult for this reason (over 30), the club want a short contract and the players want a long contract, it is difficult for this reason but we can find a solution”.

Speaking to Chelsea‘s official website, the Blues defender David Luiz admitted Maurizio Sarri‘s team’s performance was pretty poor on Saturday at Wembley vs Tottenham.

I think we’ve done great up until Saturday, it wasn’t a great night for us,” the defender said. “We didn’t play well, Tottenham played well. We must have the humility to recognise that and say they controlled the game. It wasn’t good, like we’ve been doing all season, in all aspects; defensive, offensive, we didn’t have possession, we didn’t create a lot. We weren’t in the game and that’s why we lost”.

The good thing is that Chelsa will play on Thursday night vs PAOK in an Europa League game and so the Blues will have the chance the bounce back immediately.

We are not happy. It was a big derby, our fans were there and tried to help us so we are sorry for them because we didn’t play a great game. They always support us, they go everywhere and do a great job. Now we have the opportunity to play at home, try to win games and come back in a positive way like we’ve been doing since the beginning of the season”. David Luiz went on. “It’s good for us to understand and be reminded that in the Premier League it’s never easy to win a game. We didn’t play well. We played really badly, we didn’t have the same intensity as in other games. The good thing is that next week we have another game so we have an opportunity to try to get some points”.

Chelsea‘s defender David Luiz believes this could be a great season for the London club.

Asked what the Blues could win, the Brazilian defender suggested Chelsea could conquer all the competitions where the team are playing: “You must see it as a great opportunity,” Luiz told the Independent “When you play for a big club and a big must play in many competitions it is an amazing opportunity. It’s better to play than to train and you keep having games. I’m a lucky guy because I always play for a big club and big clubs always try to win titles and I love that”.

David Luiz also gives a lot of credit to the Blues’ manager Maurizio Sarri for this great start of the season both for his tactical skills and his human values: “I’ve won with great teams here and I’ve lost with great teams here. I think this team is trying to improve every single day. The manager is here for three, four months now and he’s trying to improve our style of football, our philosophy. The Premier League is not easy and this is just the beginning. We must keep our feet on the ground but the results they are coming because we are working hard every single day.” David Luiz explained. “I’m so happy because Sarri is a great human. He knows how to teach us, he knows how to improve us. So when it’s like that it’s easy to understand and easy to try to be a fantastic player on the pitch. We can get better and we have to think that way. We have to work at improving every single week.”

Chelsea defender David Luiz believes Manchester United “came with a plan just to defend and play on the counter-attack” in their first-half at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian star told Chelsea’s official website: “We tried to win from the beginning of the game,’ he said. ‘We controlled the game with possession, trying to create some space to score some goals. They came with a plan just to defend and play on the counter-attack”.

“I think in the first half it was just us who played. We could have done better by scoring the second goal to kill the game, but it is never easy to win in the Premier League, especially against a big opponent”.

“It gave them a chance because we had only scored one goal and in the second half they came and scored a lucky goal with the ball touching a player and bouncing about”.

David Luiz confirmed José Mourinho‘s men were far better in the second period: “After they scored they had a bit more confidence, and it was a great game. This is the Premier League against fantastic teams, so we have to keep going and try to work hard”.

“Even though we were 2-1 down, we kept trying to score the equaliser and we did that in the end so I think the spirit was amazing. This was a big game against a big club, and it is always like this. We have to realise we had amazing spirit to try and score the second goal and we did that in the end”.

“We are happy we have gone this many games without losing, but we are keeping on working hard to try and improve our team because it is just the beginning”.
