Antonio Conte couldn’t be more satisfied and happy after another outstanding performance from his Chelsea: five goals to Everton, five wins in a row, five clean sheets in a row.

An impressive run for the Blues, that now are top of the league for at least one night: if Arsenal and Spurs will draw tomorrow in the Northern London derby, Chelsea will be the only Premier League leader, otherwise they will sit on the second place, not bad, anyway.

“It was a good performance, I am pleased. I think we played good football, we created chances to score and kept a fifth clean sheet in a row,” the Italian manager said after the final whistle.

“I am pleased for the players, they were fantastic. We must continue to work hard.

Eden Hazard played an impressive game – Conte added – We all know he is a talented player, I see he is working a lot for the team and his teammates are very happy for this: he must continue, he is showing his talent in every game.

When asked about new signing Marcos Alonso, who scored the 2nd goal of the match, Conte added: “It wasn’t easy for Marcos Alonso to arrive in England, change leagues, so I am very happy for him.

“It is fantastic to be top of the league, today it was important to play and to win.”

Chelsea storm to the top of the table after an emphatic performance against a decent Everton side.

It was a game that many might have thought was Chelsea’s biggest test of their title credentials but Antonio Conte‘s men passed with flying colors by dispatching Everton.

Antonio had the same unchanged side that won their last 4 games leading to the game. Chelsea went into the lead thanks to an individual masterstroke from Eden Hazard who cut in from his favorite right side to fire a strong shot to the bottom right to give Chelsea the lead in the 19th minute,a minute later, Chelsea doubled their lead with Hazard dispossessing Yannick Bolasie and beating two Everton players to give a pass to Pedro who teed it up for Marcos Alonso who put the ball past the legs of Stekelenburg. Costa then made it three following a loose ball in the box after a corner kick, which capped up an impressive yet dominant first half for the Blues.

Hazard Chelsea

The second half started in the same impressive fashion with Chelsea dominating play, looking like a completely different side compared to the 2015/16 and it didn’t take long before Hazard scored his second after an impressive flick from Pedro opened the Belgian up who ran at the Everton defense and impressively beat the helpless Stekelemburg for the second time, Chelsea didn’t stop with the Goal Rush as Pedro got on the scoresheet after the Everton goalkeeper parried an Eden Hazard effort to the path of Pedro who made it 5-0 for Chelsea. There were chances late on for Diego Costa who failed to convert but Antonio Conte will take the 5-0 scoreline regardless as his side go top of the table with the international break to come.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte praised Blues’ stars Eden Hazard and Diego Costa ahead of Everton clash, which is set for today at Stamford Bridge.

“Now Eden Hazard is playing more close to the goal and he is participating more in offensive situations, – the manager said – This is better for him, this type of system that permits him to stay in these positions where he can finish easier compared with last year, and for this reason I want him to continue this way”.

“We know his talent, he is fantastic player, and I have found out here he is a player working very well without the ball and working very well with the team”.

“I think the work of our strikers, it is the same with Diego, is appreciated by their team-mates. They are working very well for the team.”

Conte is not able to predict yet whether this will prove to be Hazard’s best season so far, but what is certain is he is pleased he can name our former player of the year in his side, rather than have to make plans to try to contain him as an oppoent, as he had to do on more than one occasion in the past. Now Conte is doing all he can to make sure the 25-year-old reaches his full potential.

Conte added: “I have experience in my career that when you have a great talent, it is important to support that with physical preparation and good organisation in the tactical aspect, and if you find all of these, you are a fantastic player”.

“With only talent, it is very difficult to be the best. You must have good physical condition and good organisation in the team; all of these to help talent to become a complete footballer”.

“For the coach it is very important to find the best solution for all the players to improve them. You start with the system, find the right one to exploit the characteristics of your players, and also you have to find the right solution to work to improve the physical condition of your players”.

Then, the Italian manager ended: “In modern football you must have the talent and technique but you must run with intensity. You must have strength for the contact. For sure football has changed and here in England you play with supersonic intensity.”

Manchester United legend and now Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville thinks that Chelsea star Eden Hazard is back to his top level and can compete with absolute top players like Leo Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo:

“I’m quite tough on Eden Hazard, not because I dislike him, but actually because I think he’s an unbelievable player. A player like him should be reaching the level of [Gareth] Bale, [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Lionel] Messi.

“That is the level I would put him at. He cannot afford to have seasons like he did last year when you’re at that level, you have to build up a trust of being a world class player.

“World class isn’t just one season and then miss a season, it has to be every single season. The standard is higher now, the players like Bale, Ronaldo, Messi, they don’t drop, they’ve not dropped for seven or eight years, they’ve kept performing.

“What we’ve seen so far this season is a player who is devastating, and it looks like he’s back to his best.”

Gary Neville is convinced Chelsea can be a serious candidate to win the title and the Manchester United legend, now a Sky Sports pundit, explains why:

“The very, very top teams make the fewest mistakes, and that was a team performance today (Sunday) of no mistakes.

“That clean sheet mentality has definitely been forced into them. It’s a way of being, it builds so much confidence. When the goalkeeper and defenders are happy, when they are comfortable and relaxed, the crowd aren’t getting anxious.

“I’m seeing Chelsea players do the right things, staying with their runners, and they’ve got two very, very good central midfield players from a defensive point of view, they’ve got a wonderful ability to read the game and fill in the gaps.

“Are they the finished article? Probably not, but I wouldn’t rule them out of the title, because I don’t trust the others enough to think that Chelsea can’t win it.

Not playing in the European competitions can be an advantage for the Blues:

“I think the fact that Chelsea have free weeks, and don’t have the confusion and disruption of European football, even though it is a good disruption being in the Champions League or Europa League, it gives them a big advantage.

“Certain players in their team – like John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Diego Costa, even Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic – I think they all benefit hugely from it.

“They would have been in that dressing room after the game, having put in a wonderful performance, and be thinking: ‘I’ve got a week now, I can get my body right, have a massage and not think about training on Tuesday ahead of another midweek game.’

“It’s a big thing for players of that nature, so I think that gives them a competitive edge, and Liverpool the same, who have players who give huge energetic performances. Their recovery between games is important.

WIt will be an advantage. I think Tottenham are as good as Liverpool, I think Tottenham are as good as Chelsea, there’s no doubt, but because Spurs are in European competition I would put Chelsea and Liverpool ahead of them in the Premier League for that reason.

“I think Manchester City and Arsenal are the better teams, but can you trust either of them fully yet? I don’t think you can. That’s not to say they won’t go and deliver, but because they’re in Europe, and that they’ve shown glimpses of the old Arsenal and old City, they’ve got to give me more yet before I trust them.

“That’s without even mentioning United, who have fallen behind a little bit.”

It was a happy Antonio Conte the one that spoke after the fourth win a row, and four clean sheets, in the Premier League, today against Southampton:

“I’m delighted, for sure, I  saw a lot of positive things, above all because we played against a strong team also in a good moment of form. To come here and win wasn’t easy, I said that on Friday.

“I’m pleased with the commitment and work-rate. The players worked very hard during the game with and without the ball. This is the right way to reach great satisfaction in this championship.

“We created many chances, and also for four games we have kept clean sheets. It means our confidence is increasing. The players deserve this. I see them every day, the way they are working. It’s important to arrive at this type of result because they can trust the work more, but we know the road is long and it’s important to continue to work very hard to improve.

‘It wasn’t an easy game today but to stay close to first place is good. It gives us great confidence.’

Conte praised his forwards:

“When you see Eden and Diego, and Pedro, working very hard during the game, you are happy. They are strikers and usually it’s a bit difficult for the strikers to work for the team, but their commitment and work-rate is fantastic.’

The Italian boss analysed again the performances of the two full-backs, Alonso and Victor Moses:

“This role is very important in this system. You must have good stamina and quality to play as wing-backs. I ask my wing-backs to do offensive and defensive work. Moses is a great surprise in this aspect. We know Moses as a winger, but he’s playing in a fantastic way. Also Alonso, it wasn’t easy to go in to the English league and play in this way, and I’m pleased.

“In this role, Pedro also can play, in the same way as Moses. Ivanovic or Aina can play a more defensive role as wing-back.’

Conte had nice words also for the 3000 travelling fans:

“Today I want to thank our supporters. They were fantastic from the first minute until the end. It was fantastic and I want to thank them, from me and the players. I hope to continue always together.’

The manager said this is the right way to have a positive season:

“Game by game, I am seeing a lot of positive things after games. I have confidence because we can improve a lot. The only way we must continue is to work and don’t look at the table. Now it’s very difficult to talk about a prediction. Many games must pass, above all the first part of the season, then you can see if you can stay up and fight for the title.”

Southampton hosted Chelsea on Sunday evening, trying to prolong their unbeaten home run, having won their last home against Burnley with a scoreline of 3-0.

Chelsea on the other hand are also trying to extend their unbeaten run at the St Mary’s stadium, having won their last three Premier League games without conceding.

Well Chelsea went into the lead in the 6th minute following an Eden Hazard stunning individual goal after being teed up by Victor Moses, beating his man in the box and hitting past the legs of Fraser Foster. After the goal, Chelsea let Southmapton dictate play but penetration remained a huge task for the Saints as they only had 1 shot on target compared to the Blues 3, Costa came close to doubling Chelsea but could only shoot straight at Southampton goalkeeper, after that there wasn’t mucch action as Chelsea took their 1 nil lead into the half-time.

The second half started the same way the first half ended, with Southampton getting the lion share of the possession but still couldn’t penetrate a resilient Chelsea, as the Blues doubled their lead as Diego Costa hit an audacious effort from outside the box in the 56th minute.
