Chelsea star Eden Hazard gave his thoughts ahead of Premier League clash and London derby against Tottenham, which is set for this afternoon (4PM BST).

The Belgian star told Chelsea’s official website: “We had a couple of bad games last month but before we went away for the international break we wanted to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup, and we did, so the confidence is back and everyone is focused on this game”.

“We know it’s a massive one if we want to reach our target of finishing in the top four. We’re ready to play a good game”.

The Belgian international won 6 of the 12 matches played against the Spurs since joining the Blues in 2012.

He added: “I think in the last two or three years especially it hasn’t been easy to win against them. Mauricio Pochettino, is very good, Harry Kane has been on fire and they have a lot of top players like Moussa Dembele”.

“It’s a massive derby for the fans and a huge game for us. We are all focused. There is only one way for us to play and that’s to try to win the game. In France we say a derby is not like a normal game, it doesn’t matter how you play, you just need to win. When we play against Tottenham everybody thinks the same”.

Speaking ahead of Belgium friendly clash against Saudi Arabia Chelsea star Eden Hazard claimed comparisons to Lionel Messi are wide of the mark because the Barcelona star scores in almost every match:

“We cannot be compared to Messi,” Hazard told reporters on Monday.

“It’s impossible. We’re small and we’re quick, but he scores in all the matches.”

His national team coach Roberto Martinez added:

“It will be a good opportunity to see Radja.

“Like the others, he will be involved.

“We cannot limit Radja. He is more an offensive midfielder, a position where he can express himself.”

New Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud admits he’s a little disappointed by his Stamford Bridge experience, with his expectations that were not entirely fulfilled:

“I am happy with my adaptation, the welcome I received, and the relationship on the ground with my team-mates,” the French forward told L’Equipe.

“You have to be demanding with yourself. If I signed to Chelsea, it’s to have a new challenge. When you sign like that in January, it’s never easy because you have to acclimatise to your team, but I really wanted to be ready right away. It was a little paradoxical.

“I could have – should have – scored more goals. In terms of statistics, I am very attached to this; I remain stuck at one goal and three assists in five matches. I’m sure it is not enough,” said the striker, who moved from Arsenal last January.

“But, in any case, the content [of my matches] is very encouraging. In time I will do it. [It’s encouraging] in my relationship with offensive players; whether with Willian, Pedro or Eden Hazard.

“Former football legends like Robert Pires, who is a friend, Freddie Ljungberg or even former Chelsea players, told me that Chelsea’s game would fit me because they always played with a big striker in front.”

Few weeks ago, when Chelsea played Manchester City, Eden Hazard complained because he touched the ball very few times and, according to the Belgian star, the reason was the position Blues manager Antonio Conte decided Hazard himself had to play.

Now, Belgian coach Roberto Martinez ahead of Belgium‘s next week friendly vs Saudi Arabia, said he will use Hazard in a very different way he played recently at Chelsea.

Eden is not a false nine, for me,” Martinez said. “At Chelsea, that can work with guys like Pedro around him, but with us we still have Romelu [Lukaku], Michy [Batshuayi], even Dries [Mertens] can play there. I’m not going to put Hazard there.”

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte claimed he will do everything to play another semifinal and final at Wembley this season.

Last year his team beat Spurs in the semifinal and then was defeated by Arsenal in the final:

This is a great competition one of the most important in the world,” the Italian coach said.

“Last season we were very good to reach the final at Wembley, playing the quarter finals against Manchester United and semifinal against Spurs. Now we will try to do the same.

“To win a trophy in England is always very tough, before winning it you know that you have to face strong teams. In this competition there are United and Tottenham but also other teams that want to try to make the history in the cup

“I think every trophy is important for us, we started the season to try to fight until the end for every competition, in the Carabao Cup we were in the semifinal, in the Champions League we reached the last 16, if we win we can play another semifinal at Wembley in this competition, this must be our target.

“To try to go to next round to reach the semifinal in the FA Cup won’t be easy, Leicester are a good team, in the last game we played agains them at home we suffered. We will do our best to qualify for the next Champions League, we still have targets.”

Asked who is the favourite goalkeeper to start on Sunday, Conte replied:

“I think that we’re talking about two good goalkeepers, Thibaut [Courtois] and Willy [Caballero], tomorrow I will try to make the best decision, because we want to go to next round.”

Eden Hazard has failed to score in the last three games:

“Maybe he could score on Sunday,” Conte replied.

On tomorrow’s rivals:

“We’re talking about a team that two years ago won the title, they want to fight a lot, we suffered a lot in the last game, we ran a lot, they are dangerous, we must pay great attention to them.

“Special plans are to try to defend well, we all know Vardy‘s characterstics, he’s very clever, he’s good in finding the right time to attack the space. They have other dangerous players like Ineacho and Okazaki.”

Speaking about the Champions League knock out against Barcelona he said:

“It was a pity to go out, especially because we made two good performances, we have to try move on.

“It’s true we played against Barcelona the other night, but we could rest, so I will pick up the best solution for Sunday’s game.”

Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has expressed his opinion about Champions League clash between Barcelona v Chelsea:

“After the first leg, I think Barcelona are the favourites but you can’t be sure. Chelsea have shown that they are a very organised team with clear ideas about how they want to play and players up front who are very dangerous and very quick. They can hurt you a lot on the counter-attack, so Barcelona will have to put in a serious performance and try to score a goal because if they don’t Chelsea could hurt them on the counter”.

The Barca’ legend also spoke about Eden Hazard, Alvaro Morata and about former teammate Lionel Messi.

Praise for Messi:

“For me, Messi is the best player in the world and in history. It’s impressive what he’s doing every year at an exceptionally high level, breaking records, getting better and better in more aspects of his game”.

About Belgian star said:

“He’s an incredible player” but he doesn’t think possible yet make comparisons with Messi: “To compare him with Messi or Ronaldo is difficult, I don’t think he’s at their level yet, but Eden Hazard is a fantastic player. He’s a player who makes the difference and has plenty of time to grow”.

About Morata he added:

“I think he’s a very good player, he has scored goals. He has had back problems but he is a dangerous player. He is powerful. He could do damage to Barcelona. I don’t know what his physical condition is – whether he is at 100 per cent – but he is an important player and Chelsea are missing him”.

Olivier Giroud has got a positive feeling about the upcoming Champions League clash against Barcelona, where Chelsea will have to play the perfect game to try to go through the next round:

“We basically had nine finals to win, we’ve won the first one but now we put the Premier League on the side and we have to focus on Barcelona, the French striker said after yesterday win over Palace.

“I think we have a good chance to go through if we stick together with solidarity. We know it will be tough but I believe in the quality of this team.”

Speaking of his first weeks as a Chelsea player, Giroud claimed:

“I think I’m adapting well, I try to have a good understanding on the pitch with the number 10s like Eden and Willian.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was full of praise when asked to provide a comment on Willian, Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud’s performances against Crystal Palace this evening.

On Willian, he claimed: “I think Willian is playing in a fantastic way. But I want to underline not just with the ball, but without it. He is working very hard and helping the team without it. I hope to see him in this level, to continue this performance as he is playing well off and on the ball. It is important to have the balance”.

On Hazard: “He played a good game and also had chances to score. We didn’t take a lot of chances that we created today. The commitment was good and for this reason we must be very happy. For Barcelona we have to prepare in the right way. This will be completely different to today”.

On Giroud: “Olivier like other players, many players had chances to score. We must be pleased for his comittment. He hit the post and in the first half the defender cleared a chance. He was a bit unlucky but we must be pleased”.
