Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has tried to explain the reasons which led to the Blues’ defeat in the Premier League game vs Tottenham on Saturday.

Our team was not as compact as it always is. The first pressure wasn’t being made, I believe it wasn’t being made”. Jorginho told ESPN Brazil. “So the defensive line ended up going down a lot and our team got very stretched.”

Also the Italian midfielder claimed the team have a lot to do if they want to have a real chance in the title race: “From the beginning, when you have City in the competition, it’s already difficult”. Jorginho explained. “But I don’t think we have to look ahead. We have to look at today, now, because there is much to improve, a lot to change.”

Speaking to ESPN BrazilChelsea midfielder Jorginho revealed once again why during last summer transfer window he chose the Blues rather than Manchester City.

Maurizio Sarri‘s appointment on the Blues’ bench played, obviously a crucial role as the Italian manager trained Jorginho also at SS Napoli.

There are a lot of things behind a negotiation process”. Jorginho said. “I believe Sarri’s arrival played a big part on it. And there’s also the greatness of Chelsea, such a big club. So these factors helped me making my mind”.

The Italian midfielder also admitted his relationship with Sarri is very good:  “Yes, it’s pretty good. He’s always bantering, joking with me”. Jorginho added.

Former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole believes the Blues could have their say in this season’s Premier League title race.

Chelsea have gone about their business a little bit quiet in terms of having a new manager”. Cole told ESPN. “They should be fighting for the title, but I don’t think people are [thinking that way] at the minute”.

Ashley Cole has been encouraged by the way Chelsea have started their domestic campaign. “To get six points from two games, it’s a fantastic start. They’ve just got to keep going.” the former defender added.

Last year Chelsea won the Premier League, while this season the Blues are having a lot of difficulties in their title’s defence.

Belgian star Eden Hazard seems to know why, as he claims that playing in the Champions League has made things more complicated.

I think the Premier League is difficult,” Hazard told ESPN. “It’s hard to win every year. Last year we didn’t have the Champions League. This year we have less time to be ready for the games. Every week there are three games. “We changed a couple of things, we lost players, we brought some new ones and every year is different, That’s why we love football — if there is only one team that wins it would be boring. That’s why football is special. You never know what’s going to happen, especially in England.”

Jon Anderson, the Mayor of Liverpool, wrote a letter to the Merseyside Police, the Premier League and the Football Association as they want them to investigate over Ross Barkley‘s move to Chelsea.

According to Anderson, this move might have been deliberately delayed at the expense of Everton.

At best, this represents a very poor deal for Everton Football Club,” Anderson wrote according to ESPN. “At worst, it could be seen as a deliberate attempt to drive down a player’s value in the transfer market so as to benefit the player, his agent and the buying club. I am so concerned about the circumstances surrounding this transfer that I am asking the appropriate police authorities to consider whether any fraud has taken place.”

Chelsea need to sign a striker to replace Diego Costa and they have some options in this summer transfer window, AubameyangBelotti and Morata among them.

According to pundit Steve Nicol the best of them will be Alvaro Morata:

“If I was Chelsea, I would take Morata,” Nicol said on ESPN FC – I think he’s the guy that fits the Costa mould more than any of the other two. He’s a guy who will score goals and he’s a guy who will hold it up and link the play.”

With Jonh Terry often sitting on the bench this season, Gary Cahill has worn the armband for the most part of the season.

The English defender liked it very much as he told ESPN Brasil: “This season I’ve enjoyed the responsibility…. we’ve set goals and things that drive you, things to keep you going. There’s been many things this season, new formation, new style of play. We adapted here, they handed me the responsibility to be the captain for the majority of the season.”

Chelsea defender Matt Miazga spoke to ESPN about how he needs to establish himself and take chances when they come.

Miazga, 20, signed from New York Red Bulls in January, but the American hasn’t seen any first team opportunities since his move.

Speaking to ESPN Miazga said “The set up is great over there – I feel like even in training I’m getting so much better working with all these world-class players.”

“I just have to be patient, and when I get opportunities take them and slowly impress the coaching staff and just establish myself.”

“I wanted to test myself in Europe to see what I can do,” Miazga said. “I want to be the best player I can be, the best American player. Why not challenge myself at one of the biggest clubs in the world?”
