Speaking to the press ahead of the Premier League‘s game vs Southampton at Stamford BridgeChelsea manager Antonio Conte spoke about Alvaro Morata: the Spanish striker is better and he can play at least a part of the match tomorrow.

“He’s better, he trains with us, he’s been training with us for two days, he’s in contention for this game.” – Conte said and then he also replied to people who compare Morata, with Chelsea legend Didier Drogba:

I think they are two different players, they got different characteristics, Drogba wrote the history of this club, he was also very continue in his playing, I guess he was more powerful than Alvaro. Morata has a lot of space to grow, he’s physically strong and he’s a technical player as well.”

Even if Chelsea manager Antonio Conte declared yesterday to the Blues official website, that Danny Drinkwater was still injured, now it seems the midfielder Chelsea signed this summer from Leicester has been declared fit.

So Drinkwater himself can make his Chelsea debut tonight at Stamford Bridge vs Everton in the Carabao Cup last 16 match even if is highly improbable the new Blues signing will be included in the starting XI.

Antonio Conte will probably have just one first team squad midfielder for tomorrow’s clash against Watford, as the Italian manager himself revealed during a press conference today maybe only Cesc Fabregas will be fully fit to play among the midfielders, as Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante are both still recovering from their long-term injuries and Tiemoué Bakayoko didn’t feel very well after the Champions League game against Roma:

“Honestly at the moment I cannot say nothing about the starting XI for tomorrow,” Conte told the press.

“I have many doubts, I have 24 hrs to recover some players, maybe Fabregas will be the only fit midfielder.

“For sure tomorrow the game will be very tough, because Watford are a good team, they got a good position in the table, but after two defeats we want to come back to win.

“It can happen to lose some games, after [the win against] Atletico we played a tough game after only two days, maybe this can be the only regret, when we played at Crystal Palace it was after international break, and then Roma after three days.”

Asked if he changed something in his training method respect to last season, Conte said:

“I don’t know about this, my method is the same of last season, when we won the league, we are working maybe 70% less in this season, that’s why we have troubles.

“We play every three days, so it’s impossible to work in technical and physical aspect like the past year.

“After two defeats in a row I am happy for the commitment and the efforts of my players, but if you ask me about the last results, I am not happy, no coach can be happy after two defeats and one draw.”

Conte was also asked if he can handle the pressure he’s under in this delicate moment of his Chelsea experience:

“I think every manager has to feel the pressure, I try to put all myself in my job, I am happy when I go to my house because I put myself 100% in my job.”

When asked if he was regretting replying to José Mourinho‘s comments ( “some manager always cry about injuries”) the Italian coach replied:

I don’t regret replying to him, every manager has to talk about his job, himself, his team, his players, not the others. Every coach has to focus on his own work, it’s the best way to work.”

And when the journalist insisted on a comment on this topic, Conte replied:

“For me this is a stupid issue, it’s funny you’re sot interested in it.”

Asked about Danny Drinkwater‘s recovery from his calf injury and if he could risk the former Leicester midfielder in the next games Conte said:

“Danny is progressing well, now he has started to work in some part of the sessions with us, now it’s important for him to improve his physical conditions, but he’s progressing well.

“First of all it’s important to recover him very well, if I play him I will have a not fit player and maybe he will pick up another injury, 40 days have already passed, but we must have more patience and wait the right moment.”

About N’Golo Kante’s recovery from his hamstring injury, Conte said:

“I hope to have him back very soon, before the inter nation break, he is progressing well, the scan was better than before, he has started to work, not with the group. Back with Man United? It could be an option, but if he is available before, like in the away game at Rome, I will be very happy.

“I think that we have to try everything to win the game, their effort and commitment was very good and positive against Manchester City and against Roma, it’s important to win, we’re working to try to win the next game.”

“Now our priority it’s to be focused and to go game by game, every opponent can be dangerous for different reasons, we have to go game by game to try to win the game and put ourselves in a better condition.

“When you have to play four competition this is the path you must follow, to play every game with the same players is a big problem, in this way it’s impossible to work well, the game is not training, it’s different.

“If you compare the situation with Tottenham last season, don’t forget that we lost a lot of big players, a lot of players that wrote the history of this club, we signed five players and we are trying to repeat something important, but it’s normal you have to pay something in this situation.”

Questioned if he regrets to play David Luiz in the midfield against Roma, Conte said:

“When you have the necessity to do this I am not happy, because I think every player has his own role, but I think sometimes you have to adapt and you must pay for this, it’s normal.”

On tomorrow’s rival, this what the Blues boss claimed:

“I think they are doing very well, they did a really good transfer market, I’m very happy for Pozzo family, I know them very well and they have great knowledge of football, but surely tomorrow I want to ready to beat them.”

Sky Sports pundit Danny Higginbotham thinks there will be more to come for Chelsea star Alvaro Morata with Eden Hazard now back fully fit after a broken ankle disrupted his start to the season.

The Spanish striker, however, is currently recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up one week ago in the clash against Manchester City, but according to Higginbotham the pair can be devastating for Chelsea when they will be both fully fit again:

“What we’ve got to remember as well is arguably Chelsea’s best player going forward, Hazard, he’s been missing for so many games.

“For Morata to get the goals that he’s got with, more often than not, Hazard not being in the team.

“Imagine what it might be like now with Hazard back in the team, giving him more assists.

“He’s been brilliant, he’s a clever player, he’s got great movement, gets in the right place at the right time.”

Speaking about the available players for Stoke City away game Antonio Conte confirmed he is considering to start Eden Hazard after the Belgian completed his recovery from a broken ankle injury and, furthermore, that the only player that is not available for a calf injury is Danny Drinkwater, who will probably come back after the international break mid-October.

Of course, David Luiz cannot be selected for the Britannia Stadium clash, as he is suspended after receiving a straight red-card against Arsenal last weekend, while Tiemoué Bakayoko, who had a minor car accident yesterday, didn’t suffer any major consequence:

All players are available for tomorrow except Drinkwater. Bakayoko is fit, it was a minor accident, he is fit,” the Italian manager confirmed during today’s press conference.

Speaking about Eden Hazard, who started his first game with Chelsea after his broken ankle injury last Wednesday against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup, Conte said:

“I am pleased for Eden because in the last game he played very well, he played with a good intensity, now his injury is overcome, now we have to play three games, there is the chance to try to pick him for these games.”

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte confirmed Blues defender David Luiz will be fit for Atletico Madrid Champions League, schedule next Wednesday 27 September at the new Colchoneros stadium “Wanda Metropolitano”.

It’s understood that Luiz broke his left wrist in the final second of the first half in the Arsenal derby last Sunday: the Brazilian player was eventually sent off for a bad challenge on Sead Kolasinac and received a three-game-suspension, but he will available in Champions League:

“He must be okay. David is an important player for us. For sure he will be ready for the game against Atletico Madrid,” Conte told reporters last night after the 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest in League Cup.

After Chelsea draw with Arsenal on Sunday, Pat Nevin says he believes that the result of the game could have been different if Hazard would have been included in the starting XI by Antonio Conte.

“At times like that” – Nevin wrote on Chelsea official website referring to the Premier League game vs Arsenal – “you need something different or something special and Eden Hazard’s cameo at the end showed us precisely what that was. For all that it has been a good run since the beginning of the season, it is times like these when you fully appreciate what Eden brings to the table. You can match up all over the pitch as much as you like but if someone dances past three players, your system and structure is smashed”.

Eden Hazard is back after recovering all summer from a broken ankle injury and, despite Conte claiming he needs to be 100% fit to perform, he feels excited thinking he can make his seasonal debut with Chelsea tomorrow night in Champions League clash against Qarabag:

“I feel ready, ready to be part of the team,” said Hazard who came off the bench in the later stages of the 2-1 at Leicester City on Saturday.

“I had the chance to play with the national team also last week, I did a good job there. Since one month now, I’ve been working hard to be fit.

“On Tuesday, we have the Champions League so I’m just happy to be on the pitch.”

Asked how tough was it last season not playing in the Champions League, the Belgian replied:

” As a player you want to play In the tournament.

“Last year we just watched on TV,  it’s not a good feeling, you want to play in this kind of games because every time you play Champions League, it’s a big game. Everyone is watching you, so, yeah, happy to be back”

Hazard was asked if it was painful to watch those clashes on TV, and replied:

“I don’t like to watch game, I just like to watch my brother play. That’s why I watched the Champions League . But of course as a player, like I said before, we want to play.”

The Belgian star has never hidden the Champions League is a trophy he wants to add to his cabinet and he considers it the team main goal this season:

“Yeah, this year is important. I have only got to the semi-final when we lost to Atletico Madrid. So it’s in my head to win this trophy, I won the Premier League and the same in France. Now all the big players want to win the Champions League. I think now is time to win this. We have a good squad, good manager, so now we are ready for that.”

What if he doesn’t succeed in winning it?

“No problem. I try to give everything on the pitch, if I win, I’m happy, if I don’t win, no regrets.”

Antonio Conte reveals Tiemoué Bakayoko can make his official debut with Chelsea next Sunday.

The French midfielder was recovering from a knee injury when he signed for the club one month ago and he proved he can perform in a friendly game against QPR arranged last Wednesday to test his and Eden Hazard’s condition before Spurs clash:

“Bakayoko is improving very well.

“He is not at the top physical condition but I think he could be in contention for the game.

“The situation is not easy in this moment. At this moment I don’t have other midfielders available. I have to make a difficult decision, but Bakayoko could be in contention for the game against Tottenham, why not.”

Regarding Pedro and Eden Hazard, both recovering from ankle injuries, the Blues boss revealed:

Hazard is improving but to be fully fit he needs time. We must have patience with him and try to do the best for him. At the moment some players are not 100 per cent fit.

Morata also is another player who needs to continue to work and improve and find the right physical condition.

“My only worry is when you try to put the players back very early, the risk of getting an injury is high. This is my worry. The physical condition could not be 100 per cent but we have to face this situation.

“About Pedro, today he trained with us and he felt pain in his ankle. I don’t know about him. His situation is very difficult. I don’t know if he is available for the bench on Sunday.”

Chelsea will miss also Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill against Tottenham, both suspended after their red card against Burnley in Premier League first game of the season.

Harry Kane picked up an ankle injury a couple of weeks ago and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was not optimist about a recovery on time for FA Cup semifinal against Chelsea on April 22nd: SportsMail now confirms the thesis of the Argentine manager claiming that English striker will be fit to play against Arsenal on April 30th, while The Mirror claims the striker could return two weeks earlier than that, on April 15th, when Tottenham face Bournemouth.

If the latter is correct, that means Kane could play in Spurs’ FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on April 22nd.

According to the Mail, Kane is set to beginning running in training again by the end of this week and Spurs medical staff will do everything to make him fit for the crucial clash against the Blues.
