The ex Blues forward was still unconscious when he was carried to the closest La Coruña hospital to undergo further medical tests and re-gained his senses while there.
A first official statement from Atletico stated that he suffered concussion and a whiplash injury and will be supervised for at least 24 hours at the hospital.

Former Chelsea manager José Mourinho was today at Wembley to endorse Gianni Infantino‘s race to FIFA presidency.
The Swiss UEFA general secretary claimed:
“I feel a lot of emotion and a big responsibility,’ The 45-year-old told a news conference at Wembley.
“The image and reputation of FIFA is not very high and it has to rise again. All these legends here are a testimony for the love we have for football.
“Let’s open the doors of the FIFA administration, the secretary general does not have to be a European, why not an African? There are many capable people in Africa, we have to open the doors of FIFA to men and women from all over the world.
‘”here is no problem in distributing $1.2billion when revenue is $5bn”.
Also ex England coach Fabio Capello and football legend Luis Figo– former candidate to the FIFA presidency- were present at the launch of Infantino’s campaign.
Former Chelsea manager José Mourinho is in Shanghai in these days as a guest for the partnership of his agent company, Gestifute, and Foyo to expand their market in the Chinese football.
Mourinho spoke during the conference to present the partnership but outside of his job duties he was continuously mobbed by the local fans.
He was pleased to sign autographs and pose for pictures with them and it was there that he couldn’t escape his recent past: a fan asked him to sign a Chelsea t-shirt and, of course, he satisfied her request!
Some of the Chelsea players enjoyed tonight NBA stars at O2 Arena in London.
Eden Hazard, Kurt Zouma, Loic Remy, Thibaut Courtois, Kenedy, Asmir Begovic and some friends of theirs gathered to East London to watch Toronto Raptors v Orlando Magic.
Begovic, who grew up in Canada as a kid, was weating a Toronto Raptors jersey.
Also Chelsea legends Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack were spotted in the arena.
Here some photos that the Blues players posted on social media to share this special moment with the fans:
José Mourinho seems to have already overcome the disappointment of his recent Chelsea’s sacking.
The Portuguese manager was spotted this morning around Knightsbridge, not far from his London’s home, taking a relaxing stroll with a baseball cap on his – shaved- head and big smile on his face.
It seems the Special One turned back to be the Happy One right after he abandoned all the tensions and the pressure of the last months at Chelsea.
Mourinho is supposed to have stayed in London also to attend Frank Lampard’s wedding with tv presenter Christine Bleakley this evening in St. Paul’s church in Knightsbridge where other Chelsea legends like John Terry, Didier Drogba and Petr Cech were present.
After the defeat with Liverpool we witnessed to an unusual fact: while the players that didn’t play against the Reds were training on the Stamford Bridge pitch with Mourinho’s staff, we saw the Portuguese manager – who just finished his press conference- take the pitch again and speaking to them for at least 10 minutes.
Jose and his assistants had concerned and sad looks, were they commenting the news the most of Chelsea fans would not like to hear in these hours? Or were they just commenting the game and how to set up things before the Champions League’s clash against Dynamo Kiev? Will be Mourinho still on the Chelsea bench next Wednesday?
Here is the photo-gallery of those special post-match moments:
