Atletico Madrid were dominant in the UEFA Europa League 2017/18 final against Olympique Marseille in Lyon tonight. A defensive mistake after 21′ was exploited by Antoine Griezmann, who doubled earlier in the second half following a positive start from the Ligue One giants.

Captain Gabi sealed a final 0-3 for Diego Pablo Simeone’s men, who reached both Inter Milan and Juventus  with 3 titles in their history. Sevilla remain top of the table with 5 titles.

Former West Ham United striker Dimitri Payet, who was a doubt ahead of the game, limped off the pitch in tears just after Griezmann’s opener as he suffered a knee injury. On the other hand, Fernando Torres came off the bench with 2′ left to go to celebrate his final trophy of career.

REMINDER – Chelsea won the Europa League in 2013 as they beat Benfica in Amsterdam under Rafa Benitez’s management. A late goal from Branislav Ivanovic won the Europa League for the Blues, who will be playing in the same competition next season.

Chelsea joined Bayern Munich, Besiktas, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Tottenham, and Barcelona in Champions League last 16 after beating Qarabag in Azerbaijan earlier this afternoon.

Atletico Madrid have beaten AS Roma at Wanda Metropolitano and Diego Pablo Simeone’s men need a win against Chelsea in the last game of Group C in a vital game for their hopes of qualification. The league table currently sees Los Colchoneros sitting 3rd with 6 points, just 2 behind the Serie A side.

Atletico Madrid will face a must-win game against the Premier League champions next week, while AS Roma have a massive chance to get a pass for the next stage if they beat Qarabag at home.

Anyway, the Frenchman has recently said: “Atletico is a great club and I wouldn’t think of leaving in the summer.”

Chelsea have been lined to yet another Atletico Madrid player, this time in the shape of Arda Turan as the Premiership champions seek to replace Filipe Luis.

The two clubs have done a lot of business together in the past two seasons with Diego Costa and Filipe Luis swapping the Spanish captital for the English one; goalkeeper Thibaus Courtois also spent three seasons on loan at the Vicente Calderon between 2011 and 2014. Koke and Miranda have been linked with moves to Stamford Bridge in recent years, and Chelsea are currently pursuing Atletico’s French winger Antoine Griezmann.

Arda Turan is the latest feature of Atletico’s successful side to be spoken of in the context of moving to west London with Spanish newspaper AS saying that Chelsea will use Luis, who Atletico wish to buy back, as part of a deal to buy the Turkey international.

Turan’s agent said yesterday that his client wants a new challenge and wishes to move to England. Diego Simeone, the Atletico manager, did not mention Turan when he listed his “untouchables”, players who were not for sale at any cost. Only Koke and Diego Godin have such a status.

Chelsea will use Mohammed Salah as makeweight in their bid to sign Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann, according to reports in England today.

Chelsea have been pursuing the signature of the Frenchman for some time and ChelseaNews24 reported recently that had the club had decided to meet the £43 million buyout clause in the winger’s contract, but also that they faced competition from Ligue 1 champions PSG who are willing to go above the asking price to outbid Chelsea.

It now appears that Chelsea will use Mohammed Salah, the out-of-favour winger who spent the second of last season on loan at Serie A club Fiorentina, as part of any offer for Griezmann. The Premiership champions, for whom Griezmann would be the perfect signing as he provides speed and skill out wide and through the centre of attack, are not willing to go above the buyout clause price.

It shows a change of approach from Chelsea who had hoped to use the money made from selling Salah permanently to Fiorentina, or to Inter Milan towards buying Griezmann, which could be up to £20 million. Money from the selling Petr Cech to Arsenal and Loic Remy to another Premiership club, as yet not agreed, was also thought to be going towards the Griezmann deal.

Filipe Luis has made 24 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions this season

Inter Milan have joined Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Chelsea left back Filipe Luis, according to media in Italy.

Luis endured a difficult season at Stamford Bridge after not holding down a place in the first team and often being second best to Cesar Azpilicueta at left back.

There has been speculation since the season ended that Chelsea will come to a deal with his former club to take him back to the Vicente Calderon, perhaps as part of a deal which sends attacking midfielders Antoine Griezmann or Koke in the other direction. Atletico left back Toby Alderweireld has also been mentioned but as a potential direct replacement for Luis,

No deals have been agreed thus far and Gazetta dello Sport is reporting that Inter, who have recently signed Miranda from Atletico Madrid and wish to add Luis to its ranks, and says that signing the Brazil international is a priority for Italian giants.

Chelsea have increased the amount of money they want for Loic Remy to £15 million, up from the £10.5 million they paid for him this time last year.

Rumours have been rife that Remy will be leaving Chelsea this summer as the champions put new life into their attack, with Radamel Falcao and, potentially Antoine Griezmann, joining the ranks at Stamford Bridge next season.

The Frenchman was signed from QPR last summer but failed to hold down a place in the first team. He often found himself on the bench, behind Diego Costa and, sometimes, veteran striker Didier Drogba in the pecking order.

Chelsea are willing to let him leave, and were asking for a return on the money they paid for the 28-year old with West Ham United and Crystal Palace among the several Premiership clubs wanting to sign. However, it now appears that the club will hold out for a profit and charge £15 million for the former Newcastle United striker.
