Chelsea captain John Terry spoke to the media before the Champions League clash against Dynamo Kiev:

I think it’s difficult to just take one reason, I think as a group we realise where we are and what are the results, but as a group we took the responsibility of it. We want to show the manager he can rely on us”

We stick together, ridicoulus comments on the media, last 4 games unlucky we had to come out with a couple of wins, I can assure that us the players are 100% with the manager.

We are doing the same work of the last season, we did a lot of work in the pre-season to be prepared for this season, the manager worked a lot with us, I’ve been knowing Jose for more than years, and he always work in the same way: he demands a lot, also in the training pitch, and of course he is disappointed with the results, he takes a lot of responsibilities on his back and shoulders, and this take out the responsibility from us the players, I guess it’s a little unfair, because we are the ones on the pitch and that don’t perform.

“He’s under pressure because of how we’re performing. Once we cross that white line, it’s on us. Jose has been really disappointed and devastated after games. He takes it on his own shoulders. We will bounce back from this.

About the speculation on one of his team-mates that would have said something like: “I would rather lose than win for Mourinho” he stated:

In my whole football career, I’ve never heard a player come out with them words. It’s ridiculous I have to talk about it. If player said that they wouldn’t get out of the dressing room…”

On Mourinho’s possible sack, he said:

It’s not going to come to that. The club’s shown faith. He’s the best,” he said. “We’re going to turn it around… We will turn things around. I’m positive. The important thing is together. And we’re together in that dressing room.

Collectively we know we have to perform better, for him, for the club, we are the ones on the pitch, not performing, he takes a lot of responsibilities and this is unfair.

“As a captain it’s been difficult in this moment, but I am ready to stand up. Speaking personally I know I am not at the top of the form and I know that I can perform better, I need to be back up to where I was last season.”

“Mourinho’s comments after the game and the fines and bans from FA? If you don’t want boring answers you gotta give the managers a little bit of freedom, he speaks like that because he’s got passion and he cares about the club, his job is not easy, I speak for all the managers, just not for him…he answers like that because it’s also what the fans want to hear, it’s cool if they are more spontaneous, so give them more freedom

“Jose has protected us and is protecting us, for me he’s been the best manager we had in this football club, Eden [Hazard] last year as the best player I’ve seen in this football club also, we have to keep those people in the English football for the good of English football: Jose for me is the best manager by far, and also Eden last year was the best player by far.

Terry also smashed Robbie Savage, now a pundit, feeling that he was targeted by him with excessive criticism:

“I’ve come under criticism, individually, from certain players and individuals, players I’ve looked up to and played alongside. I’ve taken that on the chin: Rio, Carra, Neville, the very best I’ve come up against in the game. I take that on the chin. When others speak, maybe I don’t take it on the chin. When players have not had a career, played at a really bad level in their career … Robbie Savage being one. He’s dug me out a couple of times. You take it as a footballer, as an individual. I’ll take it from the Rios, Carraghers and Neville. All day long. From others? Nah.”

Jose Mourinho press conference before UCL Dynamo Kiev’s clash :

I don’t have to answer if I spoke with the owner or not. How long I will be here? 4 years, in this case 3 years and 7 months, something like that”

“I think the quote ‘I would rather lose that win for Mourinho’ was a very serious accusation, because you are accusing a player to be dishonest, if I accuse you to be disnhonest, I guess you will be upset and probably will take legal action, so it’s a question for the player not for me”

“Yes, the players are still responding to my methods: they give all the best in the training sessions, giving solidariety among all of us, they are fantastic professionals and they show they have desire to win the next match, that is the one of tomorrow”

“I know why the results are so bad, but I cannot tell you, it’s a combination of factors, some of them I cannot and don’t want even count them. Everything is football related, of course.

“I try to improve every day and I try to analyse every detail of my work every day, I analyse past matches and I analyse the opponent of the next match, I organise training sessions, everything related to the team… that’s what I do every day”

“I said in May 2004, after just winning the Champions League with Porto, that one day bad results will come, and I will face them…this time came, but I am facing them in a strong way.

“For my players I do everything, I’ve always did and I am not going to change”

“Falcao today had an important injury, not so important like the one he already had, but he had an important muscular injury and he will be out, I don’t want to speak a lot about it but I have to give you this bad news”

“To improve I will do what I’ve done all my life, that is to study. But when you reach my level it’s difficult to learn from others, so I gotta learn from myself and my experience, and I learn also thanks to my staff, every day”

“As I’ve already said the bad results are a combination of factors, not just one reason, because one reason would have been easy to fix. It’s a combination of factors, but I don’t want to say more.

“The FA ban and Carragher’s critics? How do I show my dignity about those things? I just will show it not answering to you, this is the way I show my dignity.

“I think Chelsea will finish first in this group, I think that if we don’t finish first we will finish second, but I am sure we will qualify. Tomorrow we are not obliged to win, even a draw can qualify us if we win the other two games, tomorrow is a must-not-lose match, but it’s not a must-win game. Tomorrow it’s not a game we need to win like in a knock-out game, I think we will qualify.

“I am not going to tell you which football people sent me messages or backed me in this moment, because it will be unfair for those that I would forget, but I had friends that backed me, of course, also not football people, but I am not going to tell you who”.

Mourinho’s press conference ends, soon John Terry will be in the press conference room to speak to journalists.

Willian celebrating a goal with Diego Costa © Francesca Ceciarini

Chelsea midfielder Willian was one of the best players for Blues in this unlucky start of the season: unfortunately his efforts didn’t help the team to get good results, but the Brazilian is convinced they can turn this bad situation around.

How? He explained to Chelsea FC website:

“I don’t know how to explain the situation because we played well but didn’t get the results. Maybe we are not getting the luck this season; every time they (our opponents) shoot, they score. When we shoot, the keeper saves it or it hits the post.

“It’s difficult for us but we can turn the situation around and start to win matches, we have to keep going.

Speaking about Mourinho he said:

“He gives us confidence to play and show our quality. The results aren’t coming but we have to keep going. We need to train more, fight and the results will come.

“We know we have pressure and we know we are in a bad situation because we are not winning matches, but we can turn the situation around and we can do it in the next match against Dynamo Kiev.”

José Mourinho spoke to the press after the goalless draw in Kiev that sent Chelsea to the third place of the Group G table, 4 points after three games with Dynamo one point above and Porto leading the the table with 7 point after yesterday’s 2-0 win against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Anyway, the Blues still can qualify, even as first classified of the group, since there three games to go.

The Chelsea boss tried to analyse the match after the final whistle:

“The team made a good, solid performance,” he stated.

“The performance was solid, and that only happens when the team is okay. We had control of the game for 70, 75 minutes, We had control, initiative, chances, we had the post, we had the penalty, we had everything but we didn’t score.

“Dynamo had a strong performance, especially defensively. In the last 15 mins they felt  a goal was possible, so then it was quite difficult mentally because we knew we wanted to win but we didn’t want to lose. The game in the second half is a little bit of a trap.

“The result in the end is acceptable, in spite of us having more chances and a clear penalty once more.”

The penalty that Chelsea was denied yesterday was not the only one that the Blues didn’t receive in this Champions League:

“Against Porto it was a clear handball in the last minute, today was not last minute but I don’t know why the referee decided not to give it.

“The referee was very good, I’m serious. He made one mistake. For example in the Rugby World Cup, the referee in the Scotland (v Australia) game was very good but he made one mistake, and because of that mistake Scotland lost.”

The manager analysed also the situation in the group, that we described above:

“Of course I think we can go through. Now we have a game at home, then Dynamo play Porto so at least one of them has to lose points, then we play Porto. This result keeps us in a stable position.

“In the last period of the game do we risk to try to win? Even the players for the last period of the game felt that pressure. So the result is acceptable because it keeps us in a strong position.”

Mourinho also stated that he noticed some improvement in the team in the last two games:

“We are much more solid. Two matches, two clean sheets, no problems defensively. The team was solid and compact, the midfield was really strong. We showed tactical effort and tactical discipline.

“We are recovering these qualities that are very important when you are not flying, you are not scoring goals and playing with that confidence and flair.  These two solid performances are good for us.”

Dynamo Kyiv manager Serhiy Rebrov hopes that Chelsea will show their dark side of this first part of the season to capitalize on their problems to get a good result in the Matchday 3 of Group G:

“I hope our players have recovered mentally from the defeat by Shakhtar. I’m glad we don’t have much time to dwell on it: we have to switch attention to another very important match, and I can’t imagine who could motivate the players more than Chelsea in a Champions League game in Kyiv.

We will try to achieve the level of intensity that they have in the Premier League. In England you don’t have more than two or three seconds to think on the pitch. Chelsea are used to that. We’ve studied their game and Chelsea have lots of good qualities. But they also have problems and we hope to capitalise on that.”

José Mourinho revealed today during his pre-match press conference that Loic Remy and Pedro were not selected for the Champions League trip in Ukraine.

The manager explained that the two strikers got minor injuries: “Pedro and Remy have little injuries, both nothing really important but it is not possible for them to play tomorrow.

“They play in positions where we really have other options so we take no risk.”

Cesc Fabregas spoke to preview the Champions League game with Porto:

We want to play as we did in the second half. It was a good performance but I believe we can play better, we did it for most of last season. What we cannot accept is the first-half performance.

“When you play for Chelsea you always want to win, it’s normal for the club. Every club wants to win the Champions League and so do we.”

Fabregas explained that the team’s form can improve:

“It’s not good enough, we know we can do better and we will do, but we have to start from now”

“It’s the beginning of the season and we know it’s not about how it starts, but how it ends. When you are Chelsea and when you play for a big club you have to compete to your maximum in every game. You don’t just need to be good technically or tactically, you need to be mentally strong and going into every training session with a special dedication.

“That’s why this club signed us, why we play for a big club. We have to start showing it on the pitch, starting from tomorrow because it’s a big game and we want to do well.

“We have to improve and it’s not because of the coach telling us things or him being upset that we have to perform, we have to perform because we are winners and we play for Chelsea. It has to come from us; we are not babies, we are not players who have only just started playing. Yes, we are a young squad, but that’s not an excuse, we won the league last season and there is no reason why we cannot do it again this year. We have to start performing from now.”

Fabregas answered to a question that suggested that the manner of Chelsea title success last season has led to complacency creeping in.

“It wasn’t easy, trust me.We worked really hard for it and there were difficult moments. This team works well and the manager would never allow us to be complacent. We are training well and we are motivated.

“Maybe things aren’t going the way we would want at the moment but I’m sure we will turn it around. Tomorrow is a great moment and a great scenario in which to do it; the Champions League, away from home, everyone is watching us.

“If we want to start playing as well as we did last season we have to start performing in big games like tomorrow.”

Diego Costa was banned for three games in the English competitions, but can play tomorrow in Champions League:

“He’s frustrated and rightly so,” he answered when speaking about his team-mate.

“We all know the causes why he is, some people understand, some don’t. It’s very unfair what happened to him.

“Apart from that he’s a key player for us, he has to score goals and finish our combinations and attacks. We expect a lot from him. Obviously if you want to win this competition you need your big players to perform and for sure he’s one of them.”
