Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri spoke ahead of today’s clash between the Blues and Manchester City, who bounced back from their unexpected defeat at Newcastle with two comfortable wins against Arsenal and Everton last time out.

The Italian boss, speaking at a press conference, said: “You know very well that the midfield of Manchester City is one of the best in the world, with Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, David Silva”

“Technically I think they have the best midfield in Europe at the moment so it will be very difficult to be in control of the match, but I think the match is more than just the strikers”.

Sarri added: “They are able to play if you can stop Fernandinho and I think we are able to play also if you stop Jorginho. We have options. Maybe they have more options than us because they have worked on this for three seasons, but I remember in Naples it wasn’t a big problem if there was a man on Jorginho, so I hope it will be the same here in the future”.

“Of course, we have another striker, but we can make other decisions and maybe we will play with a false nine. I have to decide, the situation is not unlike in the other matches”.

On his rival Pep Guardiola: “I expect his team to always want to be in control of the match and always be in possession of the ball, and they are able to do it so it is a very difficult match”.

“We are used to having the ball possession and today it will be very difficult, so maybe we will have to defend lower. We will try to play our football, but if they are able to play their football, of course you have to stay lower. In the first match, they were able to press us in our half, it wasn’t a choice, it was a necessity and I think this match will be the same.

“We were lucky to score and then in the second half, especially in the first 20 or 25 minutes of the half, they gave us spaces, so it was a little bit easier”.

Gonzalo Higuain will play for Chelsea on loan until the end of current season with an option to make the deal permanent, Juventus and the Premier League giants have confirmed via their official website a few minutes ago.

An official statement from Juventus confirms the Blues have an option to buy the former AC Milan (by paying a €36m fee) or to extend his loan until 2019/2020 season (by paying a €18m fee).

Meanwhile, a statement from Chelsea read: “Gonzalo Higuain has today joined Chelsea on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 31-year-old striker moves to Stamford Bridge from Italian side Juventus. He spent the first half of the campaign on loan at AC Milan where he scored eight goals.

A proven goalscorer throughout his career, and an Argentina international, arrives with a wealth of experience at the highest level having consistently shown his attacking quality during spells in Argentina, Spain and Italy.

Clinical in and around the penalty area, as well as providing a strong aerial threat, he previously played under Maurizio Sarri at Napoli in 2015/16, when he finished as top scorer in Serie A with 36 goals, breaking a long-standing Italian record.”

Chelsea are set to complete a move to sign Gonzalo Higuain on loan until the end of current season, according to reports in Italy.

The Juventus loanee will reportedly join the Premier League side with an option to extend the deal for another 12 months.

Higuain, who’s currently on loan with AC Milan, came off the bench in today’s defeat against Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana.

The former SSC Napoli star is expected to undergo a medical with Chelsea in the next few hours before completing his reunion with Maurizio Sarri.

Alvaro Morata is edging closer to a move to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, while Michy Batshuayi‘s move to AS Monaco is stalling as the Belgian striker has been offered to the Rossoneri to replace Higuain.

Chelsea could let their main striker Alvaro Morata leave in the January transfer window if Gonzalo Higuaìn joins the club from AC Milan (on loan from Juventus), according to reports in Italy and England.

With former Chelsea star Diego Costa struggling to make an impact in the current season having scored just one goal in 11 games for Los Colchoneros, manager Diego Pablo Simeone is said to be keen on bringing in another forward to revamp his attacking options.

The Spaniard landed to Stamford Bridge on a club-record £70m move less than two years ago under Antonio Conte‘s management.

Also AC Milan, Barcelona as well as Sevilla have been recently linked with a move for Morata.

AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has confirmed Chelsea target Gonzalo Higuain ‘has made a decision’ and is ‘hard to persuade him’ to change his mind despite Rossoneri‘s win at Luigi Ferraris last night against Sampdoria in the TIM Cup quarter-finals.

Speaking at a press conference, he said: “I have a relationship with him that features great honesty, we say things to one another’s face. But when a player make a choice it’s hard to convince him [to stay at AC Milan]”

Gattuso added: “I still don’t understand what Higuain’s unhappy about because I see a happy lad, involved in the locker room. We’ll see what happens. If it was up to me, I’d keep him at my house and feed him my dinner.”

It is understood the Chelsea manager would be eager to reunite with the former SSC Napoli striker, who even set a new Serie A record after scoring 36 goals in the 2015/16 season under Sarri’s management.

Higuain, who’s currently on loan from Juventus with an option-to-buy, scored 7 goals from 17 games played in the current campaign so far.

Chelsea's Brazilian midfielder Willian (L) celebrates with Chelsea's Belgian midfielder Eden Hazard (C) after scoring during the English Premier League football match between Huddersfield Town and Chelsea at the John Smith's stadium in Huddersfield, northern England on December 12,

Chelsea are considering to accept a third bid worth £65m from Barcelona for Willian, according to reports in England.

It is understood the Brazilian winger would be eager to join the La Liga giants, as well as Premier League rivals Manchester United who remain reportedly interested in the 29-year-old.

Chelsea would besides reinvest the fee to rebuild and bolster the squad with targets suggested by Maurizio Sarri ahead of next season.

With Daniele Rugani and Aleksandr Golovin set for a move to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are expected to be planning also a bid for Gonzalo Higuain amid AC Milan links.

Chelsea are considering to place a bid also for Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The Bosnia-Erzegovina international, who’s been targeted also from Barcelona, has recently signed up with Macedonian agent Fali Ramadani, who was involved in Sarri’s takeover at Chelsea too.

It is understood the Premier League giants are also closing in on a move for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, while top-class striker Gonzalo Higuain could reportedly join Chelsea when Alvaro Morata‘s future is unveiled.

Roman Abramovic will do everything in his power to give Sarri the players he targeted following his appointment in order to bolster Chelsea squad, according to the Italian newspapaer.

If the final offer will be in the region of €200M, as Corriere dello Sport claimed this morning, that fee would mostly cover Juventus move for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Chelsea have today unveiled Maurizio Sarri as their new boss with a press conference at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian manager told journalists: “Clearly we would always like to keep the strongest players, this is what any manager and club wants to do. We will have to see where the transfer market goes.

I am more of a field manager, a pitch manager than a general manager. I think I am one of the few managers bored by the transfermarket. I don’t want to talk about it, I am keen to growing the players we have”.

About Chelsea targets in the transfer market, Sarri added: “I cannot give you the names, because I don’t know. I spoke with the club and ideally I think that a pinch of quality is lacking in our centre-halves for a certain type of play. At the end of the transfers I will understand which type of game is the most suitable”.

“I cannot change 20 players, I must adapt and then I will see if we change some thing in my game because of their characteristics”.

About English players currently under contract at Chelsea: “Well, a number of English players is imposed so there will be some. I don’t want to make this distinction, I am not bothered about nationality.

Cahill can still give us a lot. In keeping the English players, something must be left. Juventus had the most Italians and it led to good results. We should respect a very long tradition”.

In a press conference today Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that Gonzalo Higuain is not set to leave the Azzurri to join Juventus if the €94m (£78m) buyout clause is not met.

Then, according to this announcement, the Serie A side will not sell the former Chelsea target for anything less than that amount.

It is understood Gonzalo Higuain and Juventus have agreed personal terms over a £6m four-years-contract, while Chelsea officials had reportedly entered talks with Napoli in the past weeks to discuss a deal.
