Despite having three more years on his contract with Chelsea, defender Davide Zappacosta has not excluded the chance he could go back to Italy, especially if he doesn’t find enough space in the starting XI under new manager Maurizio Sarri.

Could I return to Italy? Yes, Inter had been after me,” Zappacosta revealed. “My agent Alessandro Lucci had told me about their interest, although I’ve always remained focused on Chelsea”.

Now, the summer transfer window is closed, so Inter Milan or any other team could try to sign the Blues’ wing-back in January: “Could I return in January? I have three more years on my contract here and I only want to think about doing well with Chelsea”. Zappacosta went on. “There’s a lot of competition here, but I want to win a place in the team. After that, it’s clear that if I didn’t find much room, I don’t think any player would like that.”

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta made his debut in the Blues’ pre-season in the friendly game vs Inter Milan played on Saturday.

The Spanish player scored the last penalty and gave Chelsea the win: “We ended with a draw so obviously it was important to win the penalty shoot-out and we did it so we are happy,’” Azpilicueta told Chelsea official website. “We are improving and we have to keep learning in the games that we have on Wednesday (against Arsenal) and then on Sunday against Manchester City. We have to keep working hard.”

Azpilicueta played the second-half at right-back: In the national team I sometimes play there and it’s a position I’ve played in for most of my career, maybe not so much with Chelsea because I’ve played more on the left or at centre-back, but as I’ve always said, I try to adapt,” Azpilicueta explained. “I know that every time I play in a different position I want to improve and to prove myself, but the most important thing is to give everything for the team.”

Then Azpilicueta revealed to the club official website his first impressions on the new “Sarri era” at Stamford Bridge: “It’s been really good since the first day,” he said. “We’ve been learning his methods and I think the team looks better with every minute. We know we can still improve, we have room for improvement and we want to work on that aspect. We know we don’t have a lot of time to prepare for it [the new season] so we have to work hard in every training session and in every game to pick up the movements we want to do. I think we saw a good team against Inter Milan and we have to play collectively to get the results.”

Cesar Azpilicueta, who came off the bench to replace Davide Zappacosta at half-time, scored a decisive penalty which ensured Chelsea‘s win over Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup opener for the Blues last night.

The Spaniard told the club’s official television: “We ended with a draw, so obviously it was important to win the penalty shoot-out and we did it so we are happy.

We are improving and we have to keep learning in the games that we have on Wednesday against Arsenal and then on Sunday against Manchester City. We have to keep working hard”.

Azpilicueta believes Sarri’s era “has been really good since the first day” so far. He said: “We’ve been learning his methods and I think the team looks better with every minute. We know we can still improve, we have room for improvement and we want to work on that aspect”.

“We know we don’t have a lot of time to prepare for it the new season, we have to work hard in every training session and in every game to pick up the movements we want to do. I think we saw a good team tonight and we have to play collectively to get the results”.

Chelsea winger Pedro was full of praise for his teammates following the win on penalties to Inter Milan in Nice last night. The Spaniard told ChelseaTV after the game: “The team played very well and pressed high.

I think we can improve a lot this season in this new idea of football, because it’s very difficult. When you want to press high you need more organisation to do this, but the team are very good. Today one more winning this is the best for us”.

You need very good organization when you press really high moving the ball quickly, otherwise you leave a lot of space and is difficult to defend. Is good, it’s only two games and it’s a long time to prepare this idea very well to work for the future”.

Pedro scored also at Allianz Riviera following his goal against Perth Glory in Australia, and he did it on his 31st birthday.

He said: “I am feeling comfortable inside the pitch with teammates. Is always good for a striker to score and today was a special day for me.”
