Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has expressed his opinion about Champions League clash between Barcelona v Chelsea:

“After the first leg, I think Barcelona are the favourites but you can’t be sure. Chelsea have shown that they are a very organised team with clear ideas about how they want to play and players up front who are very dangerous and very quick. They can hurt you a lot on the counter-attack, so Barcelona will have to put in a serious performance and try to score a goal because if they don’t Chelsea could hurt them on the counter”.

The Barca’ legend also spoke about Eden Hazard, Alvaro Morata and about former teammate Lionel Messi.

Praise for Messi:

“For me, Messi is the best player in the world and in history. It’s impressive what he’s doing every year at an exceptionally high level, breaking records, getting better and better in more aspects of his game”.

About Belgian star said:

“He’s an incredible player” but he doesn’t think possible yet make comparisons with Messi: “To compare him with Messi or Ronaldo is difficult, I don’t think he’s at their level yet, but Eden Hazard is a fantastic player. He’s a player who makes the difference and has plenty of time to grow”.

About Morata he added:

“I think he’s a very good player, he has scored goals. He has had back problems but he is a dangerous player. He is powerful. He could do damage to Barcelona. I don’t know what his physical condition is – whether he is at 100 per cent – but he is an important player and Chelsea are missing him”.

Eden Hazard like Lionel Messi? Many people seem to believe this, especially after the Belgian striker’s goal vs Tottenham at Wembley.

Cesc Fabregas praised his team-mate a couple of days ago, and now it’s Ray Wilkins who compares Hazard to the Barcelona player: “I think he’s a bit off him but not a huge amount. – Wilkins said – “He’s such a talented young man, he can go both sides and is very quick off the mark. They do resemble each other a hell of a lot, I have to say. When put through on goal, he doesn’t often miss. He’s a good goalscorer Hazard”.

Eden Hazard scored Chelsea’s third goal at Wembley vs Tottenham and helped the Blues to qualify for the finaly.

Cesc Fabregas was impressed by his team-mate performance: “Ability wise, there is only one player above Eden, and we all know who that is: Messi. Eden is up there with the best,” – Fabregas said – “But I’ve told him many times, he needs to be selfish and have that killer instinct – then he will be whatever he wants to be. Eden is pushing to that level, and we have to help him. Sometimes when it’s two against two and he passes, I tell him ‘Score yourself. Do it’. He has to do it more often, be more selfish, as all the top players are. Then he will be unstoppable”.

Yesterday Cristiano Ronaldo won the fourth Ballon d’Or of his career, a prize that for Conte is well deserved:

Well it’s not the first time he won it, I think he deserved it, it’s the fourth one, Messi and him are dividing these awards in these years but I am sure in the future good players to win them will come up.

The Italian was then asked if there is someone in the Blues squad that can win this award in the future:

“I hope a Chelsea player can win it under me, that would mean we have fantastic players, so I hope we win it in the future.”

Chelsea are weighing up an audacious bid for Barcelona star Lionel Messi, according to The Sun.

His father and agent, Jorge Messi, has reportedly met Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic on his yacht last week, before him and his son were sentenced to 21 months in jail for tax fraud yesterday, despite they are not expected to spend any time behind bars.

It is understood Chelsea are ready to offer a £110m transfer fee and would be set to pay the forward £800,000-a-week to persuade him.

Manchester City are another club looking into into the 29-year-old’s situation.

Former Chelsea manager José Mourinho thinks that team are more important of individual players in contemporary football, with one little exception: Lionel Messi.

The Portuguese coach thinks to have him in your side makes winning a little easier, even if the team performances are still important.

Barcelona can become the first team in the modern Champions League to hold the trophy:

“First of all it’s about individual players. Just to give you an example, [Leo] Messi won the Champions League with three different managers,” he said in an interview with BT Sport.

“I think it’s easier to win with him, than against him. I am a football manager. I know that sometimes people think that the individual is more important than the team.

“But when I feel that it is time for me to take a permanent holiday – I still think that the team is more important than anything.

“But the obvious reality is that there are some players who can make a difference.”

About his future, Mourinho said:

“Yes I was lucky enough to have good options since I left Chelsea in December – not just options but good options,” the Special One added.

“But I made a decision to wait calmly. The reality is that I want to work. July, mid-July, new pre-season starts and somewhere, I want to be there.”

Former Chelsea player and trainer Ruud Gullit is convinced that Eden Hazard should work less in defensive areas of the pitch in order to rediscover his best form.

In his opinion, the Belgium player should conserve his energy on the final third of the pitch just like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi do.

Gullit said on the BBC’s ‘Match of the Day 2:

“He worked too hard [against Spurs]”

” I want him to be sharp in front of goal. He kicks the ball, head’s down, head’s down, he still has to run forward.”

“This is a sign of a player like: ‘Oh my God. I have to run again.’ All players know that, when you put your head down like that.”

“He is as important as Ronaldo is for Real Madrid. He is as important as Messi is for Barcelona. Do they chase back as much? No, because they need to save their energy for the right moment.”

“He did it to prove a point but to get the best out of him, I don’t want him to chase that much. I want him to concentrate on the moments that the team gets the ball. ”

“They have to give him the ball as quick as possible and then he does his thing. When that is coming back, he’s going to get goals again.”
