Speaking to Sky Sports, Arsene Wenger says he believes Sunday’s game vs Chelsea will be very important for the Gunners’ season.

Wenger himself believes also his team can perform better than they did vs Liverpool and they can get a good result at Stamford Bridge.

“It’s an important game for us,” – Wenger said. – “The way we deal with that on Sunday will have an importance on our season. But it’s very early. I’m confident that away from home we will get the points we want, but certainly mentally for our team it is important to play well and get a positive result. As always the key is to be much better defensively than we were at Anfield, and to be much more dangerous going forward. By not being too obsessed by our opponent and not to forget to play our football. Chelsea had a surprising early defeat but after that they have responded very well, to beat Tottenham and Leicester away from home. Overall since their first home defeat, they have played three difficult teams and won their games, so it looks again like they will fight for the Premier League.”

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is convinced the Blues have got an advantage on their Premier League rivals to face Champions League.

According to the Stamford Bridge legend, who was one of Chelsea heroes in Champions League success back in 2012, the Blues structure is better than other English teams – Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Spurs – facing the same competition:

“When I look at the other English teams in the Champions League, some of them will struggle at the back, whereas Chelsea have a great base.

“The structure that Conte set up last season with three at the back clearly works as they won the title and they have added a few players in midfield”.

Manchester City's Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus celebrates after scoring their second goal during the English Premier League football match between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, north west England, on September 9, 2017.

A quick recap of other Premier League clashes over the weekend, starting from the teams in the title race with Chelsea.

Manchester City trashed Liverpool 5-0 in the fixture opener with Agüero, Gabriel Jesus ( brace) and Sane ( brace).

Manchester United was stopped by Stoke City away, confirming the Britannia Stadium is a hostile field for the Red Devils: Rashford responded to Choupo-Moting‘s opener, Lukaku scored the 2-1 for Mourinho’s side, but Choupo-Moting netted the equaliser and fixed the result on 2-2.

The two Manchester sides, anyway, remain top of the table with 10 points each, while Chelsea follow with 9 in third place.

Arsenal won 3-0 at home against Bournemouth, with a brace by Welbeck and a goal by new signing Lacazette.

Harry Kane was, again, Spurs‘ hero in the 3-0 win at Goodison Park against Everton: the English striker scored a brace, with the other Tottenham goal netted by Eriksen. Spurs are 5th in the table with 7 points, the same of Huddersfield Town, Liverpool, WBA and Burnley, should the Clarets win as they are 1-0 over Crystal Palace in a game still going on at Turf Moor.

The start of the Premier League sensation, anyway, is Watford, that sit 4th in the table after securing a 2-0 win away at Southampton with goals by Doucoure and Janmaat.

The full time scores of Fixture 4 Saturday games:

Manchester City v Liverpool 5-0

Arsenal v Bournemouth 3-0

Brighton and Hove Albion v WBA 3-1

Everton v Spurs 0-3

Leicester City v Chelsea 1-2

Southampton v Watford 0-2

Stoke City v Manchester United 2-2

Latest Liverpool signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain refused to join Chelsea on a £35m move from Arsenal, as he confirmed in an interview with SkySports HQ that the Reds were his ‘only option’ for the future.

“The first thing was the tough decision to leave Arsenal. – he said – That was the only thing that was really tough for me and the deliberation but Liverpool was the only option for me in terms of where I thought I would be playing,”

“The team and the feel of the whole football club in general just sat right with me”.

Chamberlain added: “I think there are really exciting things to come here and especially with this manager so I felt it was right for me to push to be a part of that. I’m delighted that I finally got the opportunity to.”

Yesterday we reported you the reason why, according to former Premier League player Joey Barton, Ross Barkley didn’t join Chelsea on transfer window deadline day in the past week: the ex midfielder claimed that Antonio Conte switched his phone off and Barkley couldn’t speak to him before completing the move to Stamford Bridge.

Today The Times reveals that it was Chelsea itself to leave the Italian manager out of negotiation, after he failed to convince Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a few days before, as the winger eventually joined Liverpool after the Blues already agreed a fee with Arsenal.

This is what one of the main English newspapers writes about that:

“The Times has learnt that Chelsea decided to keep the head coach away from transfer negotiations after his unsuccessful talks with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the same week, which ended with the Arsenal midfielder opting to join Liverpool.”

This could mean the club has lost his confidence and trust in Conte, who doesn’t feel trust in him despite an improvement of his deal during the summer.

According to sport journalist Mina Rzouki Chelsea boss Antonio Conte could be the reason why many players snubbed a move to Stamford Bridge in this summer transfer window.

Romeu Lukaku preferred to sign for Manchester United while Fernando Llorente, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ross Barkley were the latest, with the Everton midfielder changing his mind while undergoing medical tests before signing his contract for the Blues.

Riyhad Mahrez was linked to Chelsea for months but it seems he will close his move to FC Barcelona today ( the Spanish market is open until tonight).

Rzouki believes that Conte’s playing style and a bad atmosphere surrounding Chelsea has cost them this summer.

“With players rejecting him, I do think there are individual reasons,” Rzouki told BBC Radio Five Live.

“I do think it’s bad luck but they are also rejecting a club that looks like it has a bad atmosphere at the moment.

“If the coach looks to be furious and everyone’s wondering whether he’s in our out of the door, it’s not going to create a great dressing room harmony.

“Players are not going to look at it and think ‘this is a team I want to join’.

“These days players have their pick of clubs and they want to play for a coach that really wants them.

Liverpool have just announced the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal on a £40m move.

Chelsea had a bid accepted from the Gunners for the 24-year-old, who preferred a move to Anfield over Stamford Bridge as he always dreamt to play for the Reds.

“I’m currently away with England, so I’m at St George’s Park. – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain said – Firstly, I’m delighted to have signed for Liverpool and a big thank-you to everyone here at the FA that has made this possible, using the facilities. It has been a massive help”.

The England international refused to talk about the failure of a move to Chelsea“I’m not going to say too much today; I’m here with England and we’ve got two big games coming up, so I want to focus on them. But I can’t wait to get to Melwood and you’ll hear first from me on LFCTV.”

Liverpool will beat Chelsea in the race for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as the England-international midfielder prefers a move to Anfield instead of joining the Premier League champions.

It is understood Chelsea had a £35m bid accepted from Arsenal for the 24-year-old, but Liverpool made a last ditch effort with a £40m bid.

The player is set to undergo a medical ahead of a move to Liverpool, according to SkySports UK.

Oxlade-Chamberlain reportedly wants to play in midfield under Jurgen Klopp,  while Antonio Conte would have used him in a 3-4-3 system as a winger.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is on the brink to move to Liverpool after rejecting a Chelsea move yesterday.

The 24-year-old refused to sign for the Stamford Bridge side after a £ 40m fee with Arsenal was agreed on Tuesday.

The Reds are believed to have already agreed personal terms with the player but they still have to pact a fee with the Gunners.

The midfielder has made 198 appearances for Arsenal since joining them from Southampton in August 2011.

Liverpool have been pursuing Monaco‘s £75m-rated winger Thomas Lemar, but it is unlikely they would sign both players.
