Louis Van Gaal

Ex Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Ajax and Barcelona manager Louis van Gaal announced his retirement from football after rejecting a four-year-deal with a Chinese Super League side that was offering him £44m for four seasons.

The Dutchman, 65, wants to be close with his family, that is going through a tough moment after one of his daughters lost her husband in the past month, a fact that has weighed heavily on his decision:

“I could go there, but I’m still here: so much has happened in my family,” the ex Red Devils boss claimed.

He said after leaving United that he was interested in coaching again, but that door now seems to have closed.

“I thought maybe I would stop, then I thought it would be a sabbatical, but now I do not think I will return to coaching,” he said.

Van Gaal started his managerial career in 1991, and besides Manchester United in the past two seasons he was in charge also at Ajax, Barcelona and AZ Alkmaar but was also Netherlands national team coach in two occasions: from 2000 to 2002 and from 2012 to 2014.

Van Gaal won 3 Dutch titles, 1 Champions League and 1 Intercontinental Cup with Ajax -1 Dutch title with AZ,  1 Spanish league, 1 Spanish Cup and UEFA Super Cup with Barcelona – 1 German league, 1 German Cup and 1 German Super Cup with Bayern Munich and 1 FA Cup with Manchester United.

He also brought Netherlands to a third place in World Cup 2014 and lost two Champions League finale, one of this against his ex “pupil” José Mourinho, who was his assistant for three years at Barcelona in the late 90’s, in 2009-2010 against Inter in Madrid.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been confirmed as the new manager of Manchester United, succeeding Louis Van Gaal.

The deal is a 3-year contract with the option to extend for another year when the time comes.

Mourinho described the job as an honour and said he is excited at being the new manager and can’t wait for the years to come.

“To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game. It is a club known and admired throughout the world. There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match.

“I have always felt an affinity with Old Trafford; it has hosted some important memories for me in my career and I have always enjoyed a rapport with the United fans.

“I’m looking forward to being their manager and enjoying their magnificent support in the coming years.”

Manchester United‘s vice-president Ed Woodward is also excited by the signing.

“Jose is quite simply the best manager in the game today.

“He has won trophies and inspired players in countries across Europe and, of course, he knows the Premier League very well, having won three titles here.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome him to Manchester United. His track record of success is ideal to take the club forward.”

eva carneiro mourinho

Jose Mourinho has been spotted with notes that appear to be about his upcoming court appearance over claims Chelsea‘s club doctor, Eva Carneiro, was discriminated against at work by him.

It was thought that the former Chelsea manager would be meeting with Manchester United higher-ups today, as he is likely to be announced as Louis van Gaal‘s replacement soon. However, it now appears today he went to meet with lawyers about the discrimination case after he was spotted carrying notes.

On a piece of paper with a title referring to the employment tribunal, it was written ‘I have never heard this allegation before’.

Not much of the manager’s writing is visible, but the phrases ‘not true’ and ‘fantasy’ are both viable lower down the page.

The Daily Mail reports that United hope to announce Mourinho as the club’s new manager as soon on Wednesday.

Chelsea’s former doctor, Carneiro, spent five hours in a private hearing in Croydon in March, with the doctor seeking ‘substantial damages’ from Chelsea. The case is set to continue on the 6th of June.

Asked if a settlement had been reached afterwards, she shook her head, while her legal team refused to comment.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is one step closer to managing at Manchester United after Louis Van Gaal was officially sacked with a year left on his contract at Old Trafford. Mourinho, who has been linked with the United job since leaving Chelsea last year has yet to be officially made manager, however, United released an official statement on Van Gaal’s departure on their website:

“Louis van Gaal is to leave Manchester United, with immediate effect. A decision on a successor as manager will be announced soon.”

With executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward adding: “I would like to thank Louis and his staff for their excellent work in the past two years culminating in winning a record-equalling 12th FA Cup for the club (and securing him a title in four different countries).

“He has behaved with great professionalism and dignity throughout his time here. He leaves us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability on the highest stage. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best in the future.”

According to an exclusive report from Daily Mail Manchester United paid former Chelsea boss José Mourinho £4m since he’s been sacked by the Blues one week before Christmas to stop him joining any other team.

The British newspaper claims that an agreement between the Red Devils and him was reached right after Mourinho’s departure from Stamford Bridge; United also asked to the Portuguese coach to be available if required.

SportsMail also report that Mourinho refused to accept a ‘behavioural clause’ in his five-year, £75m deal despite concerns among the United hierarchy over his eccentric touchline behaviour.

The ex Chelsea manager was promised also a £200m to spend on the next transfer market but before taking charge at Old Trafford the Red Devils’ director have to part ways with current boss Louis Van Gaal, that was Jose’s mentor at their time at FC Barcelona in the late 90’s.

Sky Sports reports that Louis van Gaal has left Manchester United‘s team hotel and appeared in good spirits in taking time to pose for photos with fans.

Sky reporter James Cooper spoke to the Dutchman as he left the team hotel, wishing him “good luck” to which van Gaal replied “it’s over“.

Exactly what this means is unclear. Manchester United refused to comment but the formal agreement with ex Chelsea manager José Mourinho is really close, as his agent Jorge Mendes is expected to land in Manchester in the upcoming days- probably Tuesday- to put pen on paper for the last details of the contract.

Ex Chelsea boss José Mourinho confirmed once again he will back to coach next July.

The former Blues manager was in Mexico City for FIFA annual congress, taking also part to a friendly game with FIFA and Mexico legends, where his side ( FIFA Legends) lost 9-8.

There is plenty of time,” he said ”

He reveals he misses his daily job and the pitch:

“Of course I miss “In July I will be back. So we are in May. May to July is nothing. I keep enjoying my life which I’m doing, keep enjoying my family. But in July I am back.”

Asked when he will sign his new contract, he replied: “June 30 – that’s fine.”

About the rumours of him replacing his mentor Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United, he claimed:

“I don’t know. I know nothing about it really. I don’t have a club and I was waiting for these guys [the Fifa Legends] to win the match to give me a hand but because I lost the match [9-8] it’s even more difficult to get the club,” he joked.

He said also his next job won’t be easy because he didn’t have the situation in control since the beginning:

“It’s difficult because when you get a new club in this period normally the clubs they did already their work,” Mourinho said. “I give you an example. I’m not the Chelsea manager but I organised the Chelsea pre-season in many aspects because I did that 10 months ago.

“Clubs have their commercial, marketing departments always involved in everything. When a new manager arrives in May, June it’s very difficult to touch in some points but we know that.”

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson gave a prediction of tomorrow’s Premier League clash Chelsea v Manchester City with a column for the sport TV broadcaster website.

Here is his opinion:

The gap between Manchester City in fourth and Manchester United in fifth is just four points and I fully expect Louis van Gaal’s side to close the gap by the time kick-off comes around at Stamford Bridge. It’s a massive game for City.

They had a brilliant result in midweek and you have to hand it to them after they reached the Champions League semi-finals, but they cannot take their eye off the ball against Chelsea. It’s still a huge ask to win the Champions League so the league is crucial. However, I think Chelsea will win this and blow the top four wide open.

Interviewed by Matt Smith for BT Sport former Chelsea boss José Mourinho revealed he will be back on charge next July.

The Special One didn’t reveal the club where he will be appointed, but the Manchester United and Van Gaal’s difficult situation let think that he will sign for the Red Devils.

Here are the tweets where the English journalist revealed these details:
