Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes recently-crowned champions Manchester City deserved to claim the Premier League title this season. The Citizens secured the first sport following their last win over Tottenham and Manchester United’s home loss against West Bromwich Albion Albion at Old Trafford.

The Italian, speaking at a press conference, said: “For sure they have dominated this season. It is right to give them compliments to win the league. This league is not simple, it is very tough to win but they way they did this was incredible. For this reason it is right to give the best compliment. They did a good job on and off he pitch, they improved the team and the squad and continue to improve the idea of football of this squad”-

“I think Manchester City is the one club that continue to dominate, to win, not only in England but to fight for the Champions League. I think Manchester City have the possibility to do this. They are a squad very strong with great quality and great players and they have a club that want to invest and improve the situation. There is a lot of things right in the right place”.

When asked if Chelsea can reach Tottenham Hotspur in 4th place with a few games left to gol, Conte added: “First of all we have to finish this season in the best possible way, to look in the future is not right. We are struggling a lot in this season and we have to finish in the best position of the league and reach the final of the FA Cup. Our focus must be in the present, this is very important”.

Manchester City win their 5th title with 4 games remaining as Manchester United suffered a home defeat against bottom club West Bromwich Albion this afternoon at Old Trafford. Jay Rodriguez’s late strike secured a vital win in their race to avoid the relegation.

Former Southampton, Blackburn and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer said after the game: “Man City have been the best team by an absolute mile – the points tell you that. They’ve played some brilliant stuff all season, they’ve been magnificent in the league, congratulations to them. Pep will enjoy the 19th hole today I’m sure.”

Chelsea, who lifted the title on 12th of May last year, remain 17 points behind the newly-crowned Premier League champions. Man City have equalled an English league record as only Manchester United in 1907/08 and 2000/01 campaigns and Everton in 1984/85 succeeded in winning the title with 4 games still to go.

Speaking to BBC Sport Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne described his relationship with José Mourinho when they both were at Chelsea in the end of 2013 as “distant”.

De Bruyne made just nine appearances during a two-year stint on the books at Chelsea before being sold to Wolfsburg in the January of 2014.

“I would say distant,” he told to BBC Sport’The Premier League Show about his relation with the Special One.

“I’m not really somebody who speaks a lot with coaches. I think if the coach wants to speak with you then you just do it.

“He’s the boss. You can be good with each other but still there’s a distance between a coach and a player.

“I only spoke with him twice. That was [firstly] when I wanted to leave for Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of the summer.”

De Bruyne and Mourinho will face again in the Manchester derby next weekend, with the Pep Guardiola‘s side that could secure the Premier League title with a win over the Red Devils.

Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero made his 1st appearance for Argentina in the 2-0 win over Italy at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester last night.

The 36-year-old was sensational in denying a goal from Lorenzo Insigne in the second half, a few minutes before Ever Banega and West Ham star Manuel Lansing sealed a comfortable win over the Azzurri.

Argentina face Spain (with Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta in the squad) on Tuesday night (8.30PM BST).

Few weeks ago, when Chelsea played Manchester City, Eden Hazard complained because he touched the ball very few times and, according to the Belgian star, the reason was the position Blues manager Antonio Conte decided Hazard himself had to play.

Now, Belgian coach Roberto Martinez ahead of Belgium‘s next week friendly vs Saudi Arabia, said he will use Hazard in a very different way he played recently at Chelsea.

Eden is not a false nine, for me,” Martinez said. “At Chelsea, that can work with guys like Pedro around him, but with us we still have Romelu [Lukaku], Michy [Batshuayi], even Dries [Mertens] can play there. I’m not going to put Hazard there.”

Chelsea are now living their better moment, with two consecutive defeats in the Premier League and a difficult Champions League last 16 second leg to be played next Wednesday at Camp Nou vs Barcelona.

However, Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola believes Antonio Conte‘s side can reach some important goals in the last part of the season.

This season perhaps hasn’t been quite as good as last season but the team is still doing well,’” Zola explained during the Geneva International Motor Show with his words then published on Chelsea official website. “Chelsea did very well in the first leg against Barcelona and will hope to get through [to the next round of the Champions League] in the second leg. They can still push on in the Premier League too and have a strong finish. Compared to last season, yes, of course it’s not as good, because Chelsea dominated the league so much. The Premier League is such a difficult competition, so it is uncommon to see a team dominate for two or three years in a row.  It used to sometimes happen back in the day, with teams like Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, but now the competition is so high, it doesn’t really happen anymore. But there is still plenty to play for. The Champions League is still open for us and there is still plenty available for us to have a good season. Of course we know it will be difficult in the Camp Nou, but we have to go there and give it everything. We need the fans to get behind the players and show their support. Hopefully there will be many fans there and hopefully they will be coming back happy with a win.”

Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte had some problems in the past few weeks, but now the Portuguese defends his former team and the Italian manager who are being criticised after their poor Premier League results vs Manchester United and Manchester City.

Honestly, I know what you are writing as a consequence of yesterday,”  Mourinho said after Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Monday evening.  “But Chelsea is a fantastic team and, I know it looks a bit strange because you know we had problems in the past, but it’s quite ridiculous that I have to say how unfair it is to speak the way people are speaking about the English champion. ‘They are still the English champion. Chelsea was strong against us. They started very strong and created difficulty in that initial part of the game.”

Former Chelsea and Wimbledon midfielder Vinnie Jones claimed that Blues players stopped to play for Antonio Conte because they are aware he won’t be at Stamford Bridge next season:

“I don’t think he wants to be there,” he told talkSPORT.

To me, it looks like he doesn’t want to. I think he knows he’s going to go, I think the players know he is going to go, so the players are like ‘all right, we’ll regroup next season’.

“They don’t have a [Frank] Lampard and a John Terry to sort the dressing room out now.”

Jones does not believe Conte should be criticised for the ultra-negative tactics he used against Manchester City, losing 1-0 and collecting the third away defeat in a row:

“If you go up there, it’s a fortress at Man City, the way they are playing – they are invincible at the moment,” Jones concluded.
