Jorginho decided to accept Chelsea‘s offer instead of joining Manchester City earlier last summer, when both clubs had bid accepted from Serie A side Napoli.

The Brazilian born midfielder has revealed his mother made him choose to reunite with Maurizio Sarri: “A lot of things happen and then, of course, it comes down to preferences. I’m really happy with my choice to be here at Chelsea…what’s happened has happened and I’m happy to be there now”.

“My mum was a big influence in me coming here. Every decision, I speak to my mum and this one was the same. My mum has always been by my side for every decision I take.”

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante scored his second goal in the Premier League 2018/19 against Man City, after putting his mark in the Blues’ win against Huddersfield Town on MatchDay 1 earlier in August.

The Frenchman, who has recently put the pen to paper on a new contract with Chelsea until June 2023, told the club’s official website: “The most important thing is to give my best on the pitch.”

“I am happy when I can be on the scoresheet and to have scored my second goal of the season. Sometimes I have chances in this position to score. I reacted, got there and had a shot”.

Kante added: “We had some difficult moments but we were able to suffer together and make the effort together, and after we were rewarded with two goals”.

“We are happy with the win. It’s a good feeling. I think they are the best team in England. It was important to react after the defeat on Wednesday. We did it the right way and we need to continue like this in the next games”.

Chelsea defender David Luiz scored a vital goal in the Blues’ home win against Man City at Stamford Bridge earlier on Saturday.

The Brazilian defender, speaking after the 2-0 victory against the Citizens, told Chelsea’s official website: “It was a great game, all the team did great”.

“You have to be honest, I think we were playing against the best team in Europe at the moment. They are together more than three years, they have great players and are playing very well”.

David Luiz added: “We accepted we had to suffer when we had to suffer. We had a lot of humility, and then we took our chances to score. We did a different plan to try to win the match and it worked well”.

“We have trained a lot this season to try to improve. We had some bad results, but the humility was the key. We keep fighting and we keep our feet on the ground”.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola believes also Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal are currently involved in the race to lift the Premier League title in May. Liverpool are currently leading the table with 42 points, one above the Citizens.

The Spaniard, speaking after his side’s away defeat against Maurizio Sarri‘s men at Stamford Bridge, told journalists: “We are in December, also Tottenham or Chelsea or Arsenal can win the Premier League: everybody can win the Premier League.”

“Last season it happened the same in that period. I said that isn’t going to happen. Yesterday they asked me in the press conference and I said again that isn’t going to happen. We are not here to be invincible, we are here to try and be champion, to try and make one point more than our opponents”.

Guardiola added: “We monopolise the ball like Chelsea, we create the chances, we have two thousand million passes”.

“They beat us in one counter-attack and one set piece. We played the way we want to play. After that, when the opponent is good it’s always to congratulate them, shake hands and improve for the next game.”

Chelsea sealed a crucial win at Stamford Bridge against Man City and get back to winning after two away defeats (against Tottenham Hotspurs and Wolves, last time out).

The Blues deserves an extra credit as they scored with their first attack in a tough first half.

Goals from N’Golo Kante and David Luiz are enough and mean that Chelsea are still in the race for the Premier League title after getting 34 points from 16 games so far.

Maurizio Sarri, who marked his first ever win against Pep Guardiola, held the Citizens to their first defeat in the league. For the visitors, David Silva limped off with a hamstring injury

Liverpool are now leaders of the Premier League table with 42 points, one ahead of City and 8 ahead of Chelsea.

Chelsea defender David Luiz believes Manchester United “came with a plan just to defend and play on the counter-attack” in their first-half at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian star told Chelsea’s official website: “We tried to win from the beginning of the game,’ he said. ‘We controlled the game with possession, trying to create some space to score some goals. They came with a plan just to defend and play on the counter-attack”.

“I think in the first half it was just us who played. We could have done better by scoring the second goal to kill the game, but it is never easy to win in the Premier League, especially against a big opponent”.

“It gave them a chance because we had only scored one goal and in the second half they came and scored a lucky goal with the ball touching a player and bouncing about”.

David Luiz confirmed José Mourinho‘s men were far better in the second period: “After they scored they had a bit more confidence, and it was a great game. This is the Premier League against fantastic teams, so we have to keep going and try to work hard”.

“Even though we were 2-1 down, we kept trying to score the equaliser and we did that in the end so I think the spirit was amazing. This was a big game against a big club, and it is always like this. We have to realise we had amazing spirit to try and score the second goal and we did that in the end”.

“We are happy we have gone this many games without losing, but we are keeping on working hard to try and improve our team because it is just the beginning”.

Plenty of possession for the Blues, who failed to deliver a single shot on target so far apart from Rudiger’s early goal in the 20th minute.

Manchester United duo Nemanja Matic and Ashley Young, as well as Chelsea star Eden Hazard, were booked by referee Mike Dean in the first half.
