Yes, Spain has had a very bad tournament in Brazil last year during the summer.

The biggest question one of the Chelsea player, Diego Costa faces is whether or not he was right to decide to play for Spain.

The Chelsea striker, has been unable to make an impression in his native country last summer, and has come under scrutiny.

In fact, since the last World Cup, he hasn’t been fit to take the call from Spain on numerous occasions and this lead to reports questioning his commitment for the national team. The most worrying thing for Costa is that Del Bosque hasn’t picked him for the last two or three national games, and it is believed Costa is unhappy with the situation and worried about his future for the national team.

Former England manager Fabio Capello has said that Chelsea captain John Terry should be reinstated into the national side.

Capello was in charge of England and resigned close to when Terry faced allegations of racism back in 2012.

He was accused of making racism comments to Anton Ferdinand who at the time was playing for QPR. Terry was fined £220,000 and was given a 4 match ban.

The 34-year old remained a key man at Chelsea. Capello, who now coaches the Russian national team, feels it’s shame Terry isn’t playing for England anymore. He said:

“John Terry is one of the best defenders in England if not, the best.

“It’s better to have a player like John Terry than not have him. But I don’t think he has the chances to play with the national team any more.”

Following the racist incident, Capello said he tried to talk the FA to calm things down and find a solution.

“The FA decided he could not play with the national team and I didn’t understand because he was not guilty. When it happened I said to David Bernstein:  ‘You decided he’s guilty? No, he’s not guilty’.

“I fought for this and they said, ‘No, you can’t decide about the player, you need to wait for the court decision and everything’. I said, ‘Why have you decided before I’ve asked you?”

Vincente Del Bosque has admitted there is a lot of competition for places in the Spanish squad, especially when it comes to the midfield.

Subsequently, Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas may never be seen as a first choice starter for his country.

He was left on the bench for the entire 90 minutes during their 1-0 victory over Ukraine last Friday, and he claimed he always knew he would have to fight for his place.

Spain have a surplus amount of quality in their midfield, with the likes of Andreas Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and David Silva all fighting for places.

His coach stressed the fact that Fabregas may have to sit on the bench on  occasions, despite having a very good first season at Chelsea:

“Fabregas is one of the players who is named in the squad regularly, but there was much competition in the midfield area in 2012, when we played six midfielders.

“There are less midfield places now that we play with a striker, so sometimes he is picked and at other times we play someone else.”

Fabregas will be back in action for Chelsea when his side face Stoke City at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
