Portuguese publication A Bola reported Porto have been offered David Luiz as part of the deal to land former Inter Milan and Galatasaray wing-back Alex Telles to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

However, the Brazilian star believes the unconfirmed rumor linking him with a move to Porto is “more of a newspaper lie” and “Benfica is always in the heart” after spending almost 4 years at the club since 2007.

David Luiz wrote on Instagram: “The history of FC Porto is more of a newspaper lie, the same ones that ask for interviews many times !! Haha. BENFICA always in the heart!!!”

David Luiz was left out of Brazil’s World Cup squad from head-coach Tite.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender made 83 appearances for Benfica until January 2011, when he signed for Chelsea on a £18m plus Nemanja Matic deal.

The 31-year-old has started pre-season training with Chelsea in Cobham yesterday

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic was keen on a move to Old Trafford and to reunite with his former boss at Stamford Bridge as he told him that he wanted to leave his club ahead of a permanent move.

“I didn’t think it was possible unless something special was happening – he told MUTV on Tuesday – Matic last March in 2017 told me: ‘I want to play for you and play for Manchester United and I’m going to do it,’ and he made it happen”.

Matic joined the Red Devils on a £40m bid in the summer transfer window.

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has accused Chelsea manager Antonio Conte of “exceptionally poor judgement” in transfer market, especially in the deal that brought former Blues midfielder Nemanja Matic to Manchester United.

After winning the league last year Chelsea made the surprising decision to sell Serbia international Nemanja Matic in a £40m deal to José Mourinho‘s side.

Matic has already become a key player for the Red Devils midfield, while Conte’s side have struggled without their Serbian enforcer.

Manchester United are in second place and nine points ahead of the defending Premier League champions.

Former Spurs forward Crooks admitted that he still can’t understand Conte’s decision to offload Matic given his obvious importance.

“Can anyone explain why Antonio Conte sold Matic to one of his main rivals?” Crooks, now a pundit at BBC Sport, said.

“I didn’t understand it at the time and it makes even less sense to me now. Against Brighton the Serbia international was imperious.

“Matic is not a star and refuses to crave the limelight in the same manner as Paul Pogba for example – although there is nothing wrong with that if you are performing.

“However Matic joining United has left Chelsea, and more importantly Conte, exposed and placed United in a much more favourable position. Exceptionally poor judgment by Conte.”

Nemanja Matic last summer was sold by Chelsea to Manchester United so, yesterday’s game at Old Trafford was special for the midfielder who won two Premier League titles with the Blues before joining the Red Devils.

After the game, however, Matic himself claimed he just wanted to show his quality and not to prove anything to Chelsea or Antonio Conte.

I played for Chelsea for three-and-a-half years and I gave my best to win against them and show my quality again,” Matic said. “I didn’t have anything to prove to them. I wanted to show my new club that I deserve to wear this Manchester United shirt. I don’t want to speak about why I left Chelsea. I will keep that to myself. I’m happy in Manchester and that’s it. Moving to United was good for me. I play for a big club.”

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard belives the Blues must change their strategy in the next summer transfer window if they want to compete to win the Premier League.

In particular, Lampard claims, Chelsea have to follow the two Manchester’s clubs example. “It is very evident that in terms of strengthening, they didn’t [last summer]. They lost big players in [Nemanja] Matic and [Diego] Costa and they did buy some but I think the manager wasn’t that happy with that”.  Lampard said. “There was a downturn in performances from the players as well, which can happen having won a league, which is disappointing. It is important for Chelsea, for continuity, to come in the top four. We are not going to win the league this year so they have to come in the top four and try to have a Champions League run. There need to be some serious questions in the summer, to say: ‘Ok, everyone else is recruiting around us, the Manchester clubs in particular’ and you are going to have to match that to a degree to stay in the game. That’s the way football has gone.”

Nemanja Matic will be back at Stamford Bridge next Sunday: the former Chelsea midfielder move to Manchester United in a £ 35m move last summer and now he is one of the most missed players in West London while he settled really well at Old Trafford, becoming immediately a key-man for José Mourinho’s side.

The Serbian midfielder was important in the last two title campaigns ( 2015 and 2017) for Chelsea as well and, speaking ahead of next Sunday’s clash, he hopes Blues supporters would “respect” his achievements but stresses that he would not be bothered by a frosty reception:

“When I played there I always gave 100 percent and we won two titles together. I’m sure they respect that, but if not I don’t really care.

“I spent a good time there, three-and-a-half years, which is a long time, and of course it’s going to be something special for me to play again in that stadium.

“But now I’m on the opposite side, I have to be professional and do the best for my team. I don’t have to prove to them anything. I just have to prove something to my new club.”

Matic said knowing how much José Mourinho had wanted him brought a “big responsibility” but declined the comment on Chelsea’s transfer strategy.

“I cannot say. The only thing I can say is that I am happy to be part of this club. I’m happy to working with Mourinho. That’s all I can say.”

Chelsea are fourth in the table after losing two of their last four games, but United have not won at Stamford Bridge since 2012.

“It’s always important to win, especially when you’re going to play big games like Sunday, so we want to take all the points,” Matic said.

“But we know we must respect them — they are a good team, they’re champions, and it’s going to be a hard game for us, but we also have our own qualities.

“It’s going to be a big game, it’s difficult to say what’s going to happen before it, but we will try to do our best and take points.”

Former Red Devil Gary Neville slams Chelsea directors and managers over Nemanja Matic‘s move to Manchester United.

The Serbian midfielder is establishing himself at Old Trafford, being a real key-man for José Mourinho side in this first part of the season.

Matic moved from Stamford Bridge in a £ 35m move last summer but according to Neville this was a huge mistake:

“What’s gone wrong for Chelsea? One word. Matic,” Neville said on BBC Five Live after the Blues were defeated 3-0 in Rome yesterday.

“It’s as simple as that. The minute they sold Nemanja Matic was a mistake.

“When you had Matic sat in front of you, alongside N’Golo Kante, there was protection. Whoever made that decision needs sacking. That is one of the poorest decisions I have ever seen in the Premier League.

“If you ask any of those Chelsea players who they would want back, they would say Matic. Chelsea replaced him with someone who is going to do the same job, Bakayoko is not that player, he is not a holding midfield player.

“They didn’t replace Matic. I wouldn’t have let him out of the building, I would have chained him to the training ground walls.”

Former Chelsea coach and player Ray Wilkins admitted that seeing Nemanja Matic moving from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford annoyed him last summer:
“I’m annoyed he’s [Nemanja Matic] been allowed to leave Stamford Bridge,” Wilkins told Sky Sports about the Serbian signing for Manchester United.

Wilkins is also concerned about N’Golo Kante’s fitness, since the French midfielder – that made the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or– picked up an injury while on duty with France in this international break:

Kante has injured himself the other night with his thigh, we don’t know if he will be playing at the weekend.¨

The Serbian midfielder, however, has been one of José Mourinho‘s best performers in this start of the season, with United topping the table with only two points lost at Stoke City‘s stadium back in September:

“Matic for me is the best holding midfield player, one of the best in the world anyway. I’m very sad that he’s left.”

Nemanja Matic move from Chelsea to Manchester United is still a topic of discussion and former Blues player Ray Wilkins believes the London club made a big mistake.

“It’s the worst I’ve ever seen, if I can say. I cannot see that for the life of me. You’ve got a guy here who was so paramount to Chelsea along with Kante in the middle of the pitch, winning the championship with Chelsea the year before and all of a sudden you’ve sold him to one of or the biggest rival we have” – Wilkins told Metro “I say we because I am a Chelsea supporter so I’m speaking from the heart when I speak. I just could not see that for the life of me, why would we let Nemanja go there? He’s been outstanding for us and you’ve seen in the short period that he’s been there how he’s allowed Pogba to basically do what he wants. I just couldn’t see that piece of business at all.”

N'Golo Kante believes Bakayoko can make Chelsea forget about Nemanja Matic

Ahead of tomorrow’s game vs Everton midfielder N’Golo Kante praises his new team-mate Tiemoué Bakayoko.

“Who plays is not the most important – we had very good players last season and this season also.

“The main thing is how we play and how we work in training” – Kante explained – “As soon as Tiemoue understands how the team work, how the manager wants us to work, we can play very well. Tottenham was his first game and it wasn’t easy for him, because it was the first game away to a good opponent, and he did very well. I’ve tried to help him to settle well at Chelsea and feel good in the squad.”
