Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic move from Chelsea to Manchester United is still a topic of discussion and former Blues player Ray Wilkins believes the London club made a big mistake.

“It’s the worst I’ve ever seen, if I can say. I cannot see that for the life of me. You’ve got a guy here who was so paramount to Chelsea along with Kante in the middle of the pitch, winning the championship with Chelsea the year before and all of a sudden you’ve sold him to one of or the biggest rival we have” – Wilkins told Metro “I say we because I am a Chelsea supporter so I’m speaking from the heart when I speak. I just could not see that for the life of me, why would we let Nemanja go there? He’s been outstanding for us and you’ve seen in the short period that he’s been there how he’s allowed Pogba to basically do what he wants. I just couldn’t see that piece of business at all.”

N'Golo Kante believes Bakayoko can make Chelsea forget about Nemanja Matic

Ahead of tomorrow’s game vs Everton midfielder N’Golo Kante praises his new team-mate Tiemoué Bakayoko.

“Who plays is not the most important – we had very good players last season and this season also.

“The main thing is how we play and how we work in training” – Kante explained – “As soon as Tiemoue understands how the team work, how the manager wants us to work, we can play very well. Tottenham was his first game and it wasn’t easy for him, because it was the first game away to a good opponent, and he did very well. I’ve tried to help him to settle well at Chelsea and feel good in the squad.”

Writing on Chelsea‘s official website, Blues legend Pat Nevin praises new signing Tiemoué Bakayoko, saying he is not only as good as Nemanja Matic, who he replaced at Stamford Bridge, but he is also better than the Serbian midfielder for another important aspect:

“Nemanja Matic has gone and has made a fine start at United, so well done him. He did a great job for this club and we are grateful for that,” – Nevin wrote – “Many were quick to suggest it was a mistake to let him go, but if Tiemoue is as good, he is also crucially six years younger and that counts for a great deal when you are building a squad.”

New Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic takes a little dig at his former club, Chelsea.

Speaking to Sky Sports after his super debut at Old Trafford against West Ham last Sunday, the Serbian midfielder claimed the Red Devils are one step above the Blues:

“Everyone knows what Manchester United is about. It is different.

“Chelsea is a big club, Benfica are the biggest club in Portugal. But Manchester United is Manchester United.”

“Maybe you have two or three clubs similar to United, but it is one of the biggest clubs in the world for sure.

“When I came here for the first day, I could feel that the people at the club help you every day if you need something and supporters are very important for this club.”

Matic spoke also about José Mourinho, who strongly wanted to reunite with him at Old Trafford after bringing him back to Chelsea in January 2014:

“He was very important for me,” the Serbian said about the Special One.

“When I decided to come to Manchester, he was a reason to come here.

“My decision was very quick and very clear. You don’t need to think a lot about if you are going to come.”

Manchester United legend Gary Neville reveals he’s still astonished by Nemanja Matic‘s move to Old Trafford from Chelsea.

The Serbian midfielder, who completed the transfer a couple of weeks ago, was a key-player in the last two successful Chelsea campaigns in the Premier League ( 2014/2015 and 2016/2017) and it seems he will have a fundamental role also at the Red Devils.

Matic was one of the best players in the team that beat West Ham 4-0 at Old Trafford last Sunday:

“You cannot believe Chelsea have given Mourinho a piece of the jigsaw in Matic,” Neville told Sky Sports, where he is a pundit now.

“I can’t think of one reason why Chelsea sold him.

“United beat Chelsea to Lukaku and then Chelsea have handed them Matic. They look like the type of players that were needed to correct what was wrong last season, and Chelsea have helped them and had a big influence on that.”

According to Chris Sutton the future of Chelsea‘s manager Antonio Conte can be away from London and Stamford Bridge.

Speaking ahead of the launch of a new football magazine available inside the Daily Mail, the former Blues striker sent a clear message to all Chelsea’s fans.

“Conte has said that he wants to avoid a ”Mourinho season” – Sutton said. – “I can see him walking. He walked from Juventus when he didn’t get his own way. If the club are selling Matic from under his nose then it’s not looking great.”

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has confirmed that he rates midfielder Nemanja Matic a top player despite the departure to Manchester United.

“Matic knows very well what I think about him, – Conte told SkySportsThe importance for me about this player, who is a really good player, a top player, very important for our team, but sometimes you must accept this crazy transfer market. And sometimes you must accept different decisions. But he is a great loss for us.”

The Serbia international joined Manchester United on a £40m move a few weeks ago.

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard considers Nemanja Matic to Manchester United “strange”.

The former Blues midfielder was surprised to see the Serbian midfielder moving to Manchester United, with Chelsea providing a key player to a rival.

Lampard commented this move speaking to BT Sport:

It’s a strange one.

“I think he was such a huge part of Chelsea’s play last year. Kante and Matic were the base of the midfield and let the wing-backs fly on.

“Obviously Fabregas was a big player for them too and [with] Bakayoko, it remains to be seen if he can be that positional player Matic was.

“One of the frustrations is that, and I think Conte will want to bring in someone else in midfield.”

“You must ask the club about this” Chelsea manager Antonio Conte replied when asked about the departure of midfielder Nemanja Matic from Stamford Bridge.

It is understood the Italian manager is a great admirer of Matic, who made 40 appearances with Chelsea last season. Tiemoue Bakayoko will replace in midfield the Serbian star, who reportedly asked to leave as he wanted a reunion with former Chelsea manager José Mourinho.

Gary Neville reckons Nemanja Matic‘s move from Chelsea to Manchester United is strange: according to the former Red Devils defender the Blues don’t have a valid substitute yet.

“It’s a strange one for Chelsea to let him go because I thought he was good for them with Kante and I think they need to strengthen,” said Neville speaking to Sky Sports.

“So I’m not quite sure why they’re letting him go but they must have replacements lined up.

“United need a holding midfield player. Schneiderlin was let go, Schweinsteiger didn’t get a game and so they need a replacement in there and Matic fits the bill.

Michael Carrick can’t play every single week so they need a player that can come in and do the same job as Carrick and Matic can do that.”

The move reunites Matic with his former Chelsea manager José Mourinho, under whom he won a Premier League title in 2015. The Portuguese himself was the man who brought Matic back to Stamford Bridge, after the Serbian midfielder moved to Benfica in January 2011 in David Luiz‘s deal.

“Nemanja is a Manchester United player and a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player,” the former Chelsea boss told MUTV after the signing was official.

“I would like to thank him for his desire to join us because without that, it would be impossible to have him here. I am sure our players and supporters will love him. A big welcome to our new number 31.”
