Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic will be back at Stamford Bridge next Sunday: the former Chelsea midfielder move to Manchester United in a £ 35m move last summer and now he is one of the most missed players in West London while he settled really well at Old Trafford, becoming immediately a key-man for José Mourinho’s side.

The Serbian midfielder was important in the last two title campaigns ( 2015 and 2017) for Chelsea as well and, speaking ahead of next Sunday’s clash, he hopes Blues supporters would “respect” his achievements but stresses that he would not be bothered by a frosty reception:

“When I played there I always gave 100 percent and we won two titles together. I’m sure they respect that, but if not I don’t really care.

“I spent a good time there, three-and-a-half years, which is a long time, and of course it’s going to be something special for me to play again in that stadium.

“But now I’m on the opposite side, I have to be professional and do the best for my team. I don’t have to prove to them anything. I just have to prove something to my new club.”

Matic said knowing how much José Mourinho had wanted him brought a “big responsibility” but declined the comment on Chelsea’s transfer strategy.

“I cannot say. The only thing I can say is that I am happy to be part of this club. I’m happy to working with Mourinho. That’s all I can say.”

Chelsea are fourth in the table after losing two of their last four games, but United have not won at Stamford Bridge since 2012.

“It’s always important to win, especially when you’re going to play big games like Sunday, so we want to take all the points,” Matic said.

“But we know we must respect them — they are a good team, they’re champions, and it’s going to be a hard game for us, but we also have our own qualities.

“It’s going to be a big game, it’s difficult to say what’s going to happen before it, but we will try to do our best and take points.”

Former Red Devil Gary Neville slams Chelsea directors and managers over Nemanja Matic‘s move to Manchester United.

The Serbian midfielder is establishing himself at Old Trafford, being a real key-man for José Mourinho side in this first part of the season.

Matic moved from Stamford Bridge in a £ 35m move last summer but according to Neville this was a huge mistake:

“What’s gone wrong for Chelsea? One word. Matic,” Neville said on BBC Five Live after the Blues were defeated 3-0 in Rome yesterday.

“It’s as simple as that. The minute they sold Nemanja Matic was a mistake.

“When you had Matic sat in front of you, alongside N’Golo Kante, there was protection. Whoever made that decision needs sacking. That is one of the poorest decisions I have ever seen in the Premier League.

“If you ask any of those Chelsea players who they would want back, they would say Matic. Chelsea replaced him with someone who is going to do the same job, Bakayoko is not that player, he is not a holding midfield player.

“They didn’t replace Matic. I wouldn’t have let him out of the building, I would have chained him to the training ground walls.”

Former Chelsea coach and player Ray Wilkins admitted that seeing Nemanja Matic moving from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford annoyed him last summer:
“I’m annoyed he’s [Nemanja Matic] been allowed to leave Stamford Bridge,” Wilkins told Sky Sports about the Serbian signing for Manchester United.

Wilkins is also concerned about N’Golo Kante’s fitness, since the French midfielder – that made the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or– picked up an injury while on duty with France in this international break:

Kante has injured himself the other night with his thigh, we don’t know if he will be playing at the weekend.¨

The Serbian midfielder, however, has been one of José Mourinho‘s best performers in this start of the season, with United topping the table with only two points lost at Stoke City‘s stadium back in September:

“Matic for me is the best holding midfield player, one of the best in the world anyway. I’m very sad that he’s left.”

Nemanja Matic move from Chelsea to Manchester United is still a topic of discussion and former Blues player Ray Wilkins believes the London club made a big mistake.

“It’s the worst I’ve ever seen, if I can say. I cannot see that for the life of me. You’ve got a guy here who was so paramount to Chelsea along with Kante in the middle of the pitch, winning the championship with Chelsea the year before and all of a sudden you’ve sold him to one of or the biggest rival we have” – Wilkins told Metro “I say we because I am a Chelsea supporter so I’m speaking from the heart when I speak. I just could not see that for the life of me, why would we let Nemanja go there? He’s been outstanding for us and you’ve seen in the short period that he’s been there how he’s allowed Pogba to basically do what he wants. I just couldn’t see that piece of business at all.”

N'Golo Kante believes Bakayoko can make Chelsea forget about Nemanja Matic

Ahead of tomorrow’s game vs Everton midfielder N’Golo Kante praises his new team-mate Tiemoué Bakayoko.

“Who plays is not the most important – we had very good players last season and this season also.

“The main thing is how we play and how we work in training” – Kante explained – “As soon as Tiemoue understands how the team work, how the manager wants us to work, we can play very well. Tottenham was his first game and it wasn’t easy for him, because it was the first game away to a good opponent, and he did very well. I’ve tried to help him to settle well at Chelsea and feel good in the squad.”

Writing on Chelsea‘s official website, Blues legend Pat Nevin praises new signing Tiemoué Bakayoko, saying he is not only as good as Nemanja Matic, who he replaced at Stamford Bridge, but he is also better than the Serbian midfielder for another important aspect:

“Nemanja Matic has gone and has made a fine start at United, so well done him. He did a great job for this club and we are grateful for that,” – Nevin wrote – “Many were quick to suggest it was a mistake to let him go, but if Tiemoue is as good, he is also crucially six years younger and that counts for a great deal when you are building a squad.”

New Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic takes a little dig at his former club, Chelsea.

Speaking to Sky Sports after his super debut at Old Trafford against West Ham last Sunday, the Serbian midfielder claimed the Red Devils are one step above the Blues:

“Everyone knows what Manchester United is about. It is different.

“Chelsea is a big club, Benfica are the biggest club in Portugal. But Manchester United is Manchester United.”

“Maybe you have two or three clubs similar to United, but it is one of the biggest clubs in the world for sure.

“When I came here for the first day, I could feel that the people at the club help you every day if you need something and supporters are very important for this club.”

Matic spoke also about José Mourinho, who strongly wanted to reunite with him at Old Trafford after bringing him back to Chelsea in January 2014:

“He was very important for me,” the Serbian said about the Special One.

“When I decided to come to Manchester, he was a reason to come here.

“My decision was very quick and very clear. You don’t need to think a lot about if you are going to come.”

Manchester United legend Gary Neville reveals he’s still astonished by Nemanja Matic‘s move to Old Trafford from Chelsea.

The Serbian midfielder, who completed the transfer a couple of weeks ago, was a key-player in the last two successful Chelsea campaigns in the Premier League ( 2014/2015 and 2016/2017) and it seems he will have a fundamental role also at the Red Devils.

Matic was one of the best players in the team that beat West Ham 4-0 at Old Trafford last Sunday:

“You cannot believe Chelsea have given Mourinho a piece of the jigsaw in Matic,” Neville told Sky Sports, where he is a pundit now.

“I can’t think of one reason why Chelsea sold him.

“United beat Chelsea to Lukaku and then Chelsea have handed them Matic. They look like the type of players that were needed to correct what was wrong last season, and Chelsea have helped them and had a big influence on that.”

According to Chris Sutton the future of Chelsea‘s manager Antonio Conte can be away from London and Stamford Bridge.

Speaking ahead of the launch of a new football magazine available inside the Daily Mail, the former Blues striker sent a clear message to all Chelsea’s fans.

“Conte has said that he wants to avoid a ”Mourinho season” – Sutton said. – “I can see him walking. He walked from Juventus when he didn’t get his own way. If the club are selling Matic from under his nose then it’s not looking great.”

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has confirmed that he rates midfielder Nemanja Matic a top player despite the departure to Manchester United.

“Matic knows very well what I think about him, – Conte told SkySportsThe importance for me about this player, who is a really good player, a top player, very important for our team, but sometimes you must accept this crazy transfer market. And sometimes you must accept different decisions. But he is a great loss for us.”

The Serbia international joined Manchester United on a £40m move a few weeks ago.
