Cesc Fabregas has officially left Chelsea to join AS Monaco on a permanent move last night, just a few hours before Blues’ clash against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

Following the win against Rafa Benitez’s men, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has confirmed he remains confident the board will find a midfielder as a replacement for the Spaniard, despite he ‘cannot do anything more’.

It has been reported the Italian manager has made Cagliari ace Nicolò Barella his main target to revamp the squad in January.

Speaking at a press conference, Sarri said: “As you have seen today, Jorginho was in trouble and on the bench there wasn’t a player for that position, so I need a player for that position, I need another option for Jorginho.

‘The club knows very well my opinion. I need a player there so it depends on the club’s decision, I can’t do anything more”.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri spoke following his side’s home win against Newcastle United.

The visitors managed to level the clash against Blues before Brazilian star Willian flashed a curled effort which sealed a crucial win for Chelsea.

Sarri told journalists: “I’m really very happy with the result. I was happy with the performance at Tottenham, today we started well for 10 minutes but after the goal we thought it was easy and it wasn’t. We slept for 25 minutes and we were in trouble.

“It was better in the second half but we need to improve in the mental reaction because after the first goal something happened. We stopped playing. It was very important to get three points, and to score, and for now that’s enough”.

“It’s very difficult to understand [why Chelsea players ‘stopped playing’]. In the last five matches it was difficult to score, today we did after eight or nine minutes so I think the team felt it was easy.

We stopped playing and then of course we had problems. We were not able to react in the right way to the difficulties but today there were no difficulties as we scored after nine minutes”.

He added: “For the first time, at Watford we reacted well to their goal in the last minutes of the first half. We reacted very well at Tottenham. Today we only had to manage a positive situation, not a difficulty. I think we need to improve our mentality”.

On Willian: “He is a very important player for us. As I said yesterday in the press conference, in my opinion he has to stay with us.

He’s very important player, like Pedro. Hudson-Odoi is becoming a very important player so with Eden like a striker today, we need wingers, so we need Pedro, Hudson-Odoi and Willian, of course. At this moment he’s a fundamental player”.

In his press conference before tomorrow’s Premier League game vs Newcastle, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri explained his team are performing very well, but his players are lacking when it comes to score goals.

We need to score,” Sarri stressed. “We need to solve this problem. In the last match we played very well, with continuity and with a very good offensive and defensive phase, and with a great performance from a physical point of view – the best of the season – but we didn’t score. We have to work and try to solve it as soon as possible”.

And, according to the Italian manager, it will be important to score very soon as he expects a game very similar to the ones vs Leicester and Southampton: “I think the match will be the same, but I hope to score in the first 30 minutes,’” Sarri went on. “If the match is the same we have to be patient and improve, not in the offensive phase, but in the box and attacking the box from lateral balls, and improve attacking spaces from uncovered balls. We need to improve in the last 20, 25 metres.”

Also, Sarri revealed that both Andreas Christensen and Callum Hudson-Odoi can feature in the team vs Newcastle even if they played both Chelsea’s cup ties in the last few days. “He [Christensen] has improved in defending by looking at the ball. Now he is ready to play. We have a very good option for David, for Rudiger. I don’t know about tomorrow because he played 2 matches in three days for the first time this season, as Callum did”. Sarri explained. “Callum recovered very well from the first match, yesterday he was a little bit tired but I think that’s normal for the first time in the season when you play two matches in three days. I want to see today the level of recovery.”

Under Maurizio Sarri, Brazilian defender David Luiz has re-gained a spot in Chelsea‘s starting XI and he is enjoying his “new life” at Stamford Bridge.

Yesterday, David Luiz played in the Blues’ win over Newcastle: “It’s always difficult to play against a line of five, and then a line of four, playing a low block”. David Luiz told Chelsea official website“We were trying to move the ball as quickly as possible and trying to find some gaps to score but we dominated the game and we deserved to win.”

The Brazilian defender also praised Maurizio Sarri and the way the team are playing: “I’m enjoying it a lot, we have a great philosophy, a great manager and an amazing spirit in the team so it’s great to be playing. We are trying to get points at the beginning because as everybody knows it’s a new system and a new philosophy so we are trying to do our best”. the defender went on.“It’s not easy to win points in the Premier League so if we can get them now, at the beginning of the season, when we are adapted to the style it’s going to be even better for us.”

Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso spoke after the win against Newcastle that put Chelsea on the top of the table again, along with Liverpool and Watford.

“After them equalising everyone tought it was over but then Marcos [Alonso] found an incredible goal,” the Belgian said.

“They defended very well for most of the game, but eventually we were able to win.”

Marcos Alonso, who was again decisive after finding the winner against Arsenal last week, claimed it was a penalty on him:

“I think I touched the ball before the defender, I was between him and the ball, I guess the referee took the right decision”

“I believe we deserved these three points”.

Premier League rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs earned their first wins of 2018/19 Premier League campaign as they beat respectively Leicester City and Newcastle United.

Dele Alli‘s header secured an away win for the Spurs against former Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez, whose team found an early equalizer with Spanish striker Joselu.

José Mourinho, who was facing Harry Maguire after missing out on signing the England international defender,   saw his side beak the deadlock with Paul Pogba and then Luke Shaw. A late striker from Jamie Vardy was not enough for the Foxes.

Crystal Palace hope to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan again next season.

Palace believe the Blues could allow the England international, who made his first World Cup start for the Three Lions in Sunday’s 6-1 win against Panama, to go out on loan for another year.

Loftus-Cheek played a key role in helping the Eagles avoid relegation last season and has made it clear he wants regular football next term.

Palace want the 22-year-old back but are likely to face competition after his impressive performances for England, with Everton and Newcastle interested.
But Loftus-Cheek enjoyed his time at Palace and they hope that will put them at the front of the queue to sign him.
However the midfielder, who grew-up as a footballer in Chelsea academy and made his first team debut under José Mourinho three years ago, said he will decide his future once his experience in the World Cup is over.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has warned his players they’ll have “no chance” of beating Manchester United in the FA Cup Final if display against Newcastle United at St.James’ park is repeated.

The Italian told reporters:”For the next game, for sure we must change. If we think we can play a game like this in the final of the FA Cup then we don’t have a chance”.

We reported earlier this morning that Manchester United duo Romelu Lukaku (ankle) and Anthony Martial (knee) are still doubtful ahead of Wembley clash, as José Mourinho confirmed following their home win against Watford.

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill believes the Blues’ display against Newcastle United at St.James’ Park was below-par as Antonio Conte’s men suffered a 3-0 defeat in the last game of Premier League 2017/18 season.

The captain told Chelsea’s official website: “It was a below-par performance by ourselves. For whatever reason, we were way off the pace. Newcastle made it very difficult for us early on.”

“They started very well, but there were sloppy things from us: sloppy passes, things we shouldn’t be doing, so we are very disappointed in the dressing room. There were individual mistakes here, there and everywhere which was putting us under extreme amounts of pressure. That’s not in our make-up”.

“It looked to me like everyone had one eye on the cup final, which is very dangerous. We are very lucky that the game was somewhat irrelevant in the end as Liverpool won, because if we had come off that pitch with that performance having thrown a Champions League spot away, it would have been extremely hard to take.”

While Antonio Conte keeps saying he is focused on his present and the Fa Cup final, pundit Jamie Redknapp believes the Italian manager won’t be at Stamford Bridge at the beginning of next season.

For Conte, I’d be amazed if we see him on the touchline at Chelsea from next season”. Redknapp said. “I think he looks like he wants to get away now.”

The former Liverpool player claims today, during the game vs Newcastle, Conte himself sent clear “signals” he doesn’t want to be Chelsea manager anymore: “Normally you see him on the touchline leading from the front,” Redknapp explained. “He’s the one that signals all the pressing actions you want to get from a manager. But you can see now, even he looks like a beaten man. It certainly doesn’t mean he’s a bad manager if it doesn’t work out here because managers seem to have one or two years, they come in, instant impact then they go. Someone else comes along, they get success – that’s Chelsea’s model if you like. It works for them, it won’t work for others”.
