Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan has reportedly agreed terms with Manchester United.
The Red Devils are set to announce the signing of the Argentinian in the near future, who was also linked with a possibile transfer to Chelsea.
The 27-year-old joined Benfica in 2010 from Boca Juniors for a fee of £6 million. He has made 27 appearances this season, scoring four goals but grabbing 16 assists.
According to the Metro, United are paying Benfica £25.4 million for the 27-year old’s services.
Gaitan was the subject of the interests of both Jose Mourinho and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. However it seems Louis van Gaal has won the race for the winger. It is also said that Sir Alex Ferguson was monitoring the young player during his time as a manager of Manchester United.
Gaitan’s arrival is also a way of convincing fellow Argentinian winger Angel di Maria to stay at the club, according to reports. The two are close friends and will allow Gaitan to settle in, and for United to keep one of their star players.
