Chelsea have more than a chance to get a place into the top-four teams of current Premier League season after getting a crucial 1-1 draw against Man United at Old Trafford.

An early lead given by former Blues’ star Juan Mata was not enough as Marcos Alonso leveled up the score a few minutes before the half-time whistle following an effort from Toni Rudiger. The German defender limped-off the pitch, as well as Eric Bailly, due to an injury.

Pedro‘s clearance off the line secures Maurizio Sarri a 4th place on the league table with still two games left to go. Chelsea have a better goal difference than Arsenal and Man United and will host Watford on Sunday before ending up the season at King Power Stadium.

A terrible news shocked the football world tonight: English football legend Sir Alex Ferguson is seriously ill in hospital because of a brain hemorrhage.

The former Manchester United boss had emergency surgery on Saturday and an official statement by the Old Trafford club said the procedure “had gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery”.

United’s club captain Michael Carrick said he was “devastated” to learn his former manager had undergone emergency surgery.

“All my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. Be strong boss,” he wrote on Twitter.

This afternoon Doncaster Rovers, the club managed by Ferguson’s son Darren, announced their head coach couldn’t attend the match due to “personal reasons” but no one could imagine that was related to his famous father until Man United released their official statement.

Ferguson was seen last weekend at Old Trafford to greet Arsene Wenger, at his last visit to the historic ground as the Arsenal boss, joking with him and current Red Devils manager José Mourinho before kick off.

Nemanja Matic last summer was sold by Chelsea to Manchester United so, yesterday’s game at Old Trafford was special for the midfielder who won two Premier League titles with the Blues before joining the Red Devils.

After the game, however, Matic himself claimed he just wanted to show his quality and not to prove anything to Chelsea or Antonio Conte.

I played for Chelsea for three-and-a-half years and I gave my best to win against them and show my quality again,” Matic said. “I didn’t have anything to prove to them. I wanted to show my new club that I deserve to wear this Manchester United shirt. I don’t want to speak about why I left Chelsea. I will keep that to myself. I’m happy in Manchester and that’s it. Moving to United was good for me. I play for a big club.”

Chelsea fans are furious at Alvaro Morata after the Spanish forward offered a poor display against Manchester United today at Old Trafford.

Antonio Conte’s side took the lead with Willian at 32′ but Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard responded and gave three points to the Red Devils.

The Blues supporters turned their frustration to Alvaro Morata, who was given the nod over Olivier Giroud today, who also hit the crossbar in the beginning of the game after a wonderful assist by Marcos Alonso: an effort that would have deserved better luck, but also a better strike.

The Spaniard, however, looked isolated throughout and was even snubbed by Conte during Chelsea’s midweek clash with Barcelona; with the Italian preferring to start Eden Hazard as a false nine rather than field Morata in the starting eleven.

Chelsea fans suggested that Morata’s Stamford Bridge career should come to an end before it has even really started and lamented that Diego Costa should have never been sold to make-way for the ex Real Madrid forward, who signed in a £58m deal last summer.

These are some tweets we could find around in the web:

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante spoke to the club official website ahead of this afternoon clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford:

“It’s important to win,” said the 26-year-old.

“The Premier League is another competition, we are fourth in the table and if we want to play Champions League next season we have to win these type of games.

“We know Man United have good players but it’s one team against another, our tactics against their tactics. We did well against them at home, I think it will be a little bit different but I hope we can win.’

“I’ve never won at Old Trafford but at Chelsea we’ve beaten them three times.

“I hope I can win my first game against them away.

“We are playing Manchester United and if we win we will be level on points with them.

Liverpool are four points in front of us [having played a game more], Tottenham are fifth but only one point behind so it’s very tight.

“We have to keep winning and hopefully we will be in the Champions League next season. Second place is still possible, we have to fight for it and see what we can do at the end of the season.”

Willian was outstanding recently as the Brazilian scored against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League and Hull City in the FA Cup.

When asked if the Blues’ star will be selected in the starting XI to face Manchester United tomorrow, Antonio Conte said: “I have to try to make the best decision for the team. Now he is playing because he is deserving to play, not because there is some regret for the past”.

“If a player shows me during the training sessions that he is on top form and wants to run offensively and defensively, he plays, otherwise he stays on the bench or in the stands. This is not only for one player; this is for all my players. This means a winning mentality”.

“Willian played well against Barcelona. I am very happy with my choice. Before the game, some people said, ‘Why Willian and not Morata?’ Willian deserved it more than Morata. In the previous game he played well, and I think I made a fantastic choice, and I would like to take my credit!”

More from Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who had his say ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Blues are currently 3 points behind the Red Devils, while Liverpool remain 3rd with 54 points.

Conte told journalists: “We missed one game, against Watford, apart from that, from the start of the season our mentality was top, and I must be pleased about this”.

“A winning mentality doesn’t mean you have to win every game. A winning mentality is the way you prepare the game; the way you show 100 per cent commitment during training sessions. A winning mentality is to always have good behaviour, to respect your coach, your team-mates, the fans, the club, the opponent”.

“This is a winning mentality, and in every game to only have one idea: to try to win the game. It doesn’t mean you are able to win every game. Sometimes it can happen that the mind switches off, for example against Watford, not only for one player but for the whole team. It was a pity but I think we learned a lot from this game”.

Today Chelsea‘s manager Antonio Conte spoke to the media at Cobham ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford vs Manchester United.

The Italian is aware of the importance of the game and he said his team will do everything they could to win.

We have to look at ourselves and understand that from now until the end of the season every game is very important,” Conte said. “To get three points will be important for ourselves and United. The fight for the Champions League is open, there are many great teams and someone has to miss out. This is not a simple game, especially when you play at Old Trafford, but at the same time after playing Barcelona this test will be very important for us, to see our reaction and approach in a difficult atmosphere. You have to start the game with only one target in your mind, to try to get three points.  This is very important for the mentality. If you have a winning mentality you try to reach only one result, to win. During the game a lot of situations can happen. If you draw against United it could be a good result but only after you’ve played to try to win. Last season we lost the game so we must pay great attention.  They have a lot of fantastic players, their team is also very physical. We must pay great attention because when you play against United anything can happen. It’s a massive game for us and we have to put 120 per cent of our strength into it, we want to try to get three points, it will be difficult but we must try.”
