Oumar Niasse

Everton striker Oumar Niasse claimed that former Chelsea boss José Mourinho wanted to sign him in the last January transfer window, but he didn’t even had time to start the negotiation because he was sacked before Christmas:

“My manager told me Mourinho was interested,” Niasse told The Guardian.

“He said Mourinho liked the way I play and had been looking at me since I was in Turkey [with Akhisar Belediyespor].

“He was very interested in me for this last transfer window but then he was sacked.”

At the end Niasse moved from Lokomotiv Moscow to Everton but Chelsea fans won’t have many regrets for this missed signing since the Senegal striker has yet to score for the Toffees, though his lack of match fitness and an injury issue with his wrist can be blamed for his poor start in the Merseyside club.

Lokomotiv Moscow striker Oumar Niasse could be on his way to Chelsea having been extensively scouted over the past months, the Guardian claims.

The Senegalese international has scored 12 goals and grabbed 10 assists in just 21 games this season, and has been voted the Russian Premier League’s 2015 Player of the Year.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in a £15 million move, with Niasse keen on a move to England due to his wife being based in the country. However, his wife is based in Manchester, which could scupper a potential move to London.

However, Manchester United, Tottenham, Everton, Newcastle, Aston Villa and clubs from mainland Europe are all said to be interested in the 25-year old.

It is claimed that German side Bayer Leverkusen and French side Monaco have both had bids rejected for Niasse.

It is unclear whether a deal for Niasse, who has also played in Norway and Turkey, would be done this month or in the summer, or indeed if Chelsea have placed a formal bid.
