Chelsea boss Antonio Conte replaced Alvaro Morata with Brazilian winger Willian during Man City clash as the Spain striker left the pitch following an injury suffered in the first half.

Eden Hazard was used as a striker without the former Real Madrid star: “It was a simple tactical decision, – said Conte – In this type of game I thought Willian with Hazard was a good decision to try to exploit the space behind the defenders.”

Kevin de Bruyne was the man who condemned Chelsea to the second season defeat tonight.

The Belgian was the match-winner with an amazing shot half-way in the second part.

Citizens deserved the three points, having tried harder than Chelsea to reach them, especially in the second halfhalf, where Conte’s team was literally outplayed.

The Blues lost Morata, who was repacled by Willian and missed a chance to score after a few minutes, in the middle of the first half – probably a hamstring injury- and, apart of a couple of chances, never gave the impression they could overcome City.

If Chelsea didn’t suffer a worse defeat it is mostly thanks to his defenders, who were under pressure the entire game and only surrended to. De Bruyne’s amazing goal.

Eden Hazard was probably Chelsea most dangerous man, with a couple of chances saved by City’s keeper Ederson, but it seemed too lonely in the middle of the attack, especially after Morata left the pitch.

Willian, Fabregas and Bakayoko’s performances were heavily disappointing, with Kante who couldn’t do his usual job in the midfield, having been left alone.

Man City are now top of the table again with 19 points, along with Manchester United who won 4-0 over Crystal Palace today, while Chelsea sit fourth with 13. Spurs are third with 14,having beat Huddersfield Town 4-0 this afternoon.

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has confirmed that Chelsea clash will be crucial in the race for Premier League title as Antonio Conte is set to face Pep Guardiola’s men today at Stamford Bridge.

We all know the game will be very tough, we’ll be playing against last season’s champions and I’m sure it will be a nice game, they have top class players and a win will be perfect for us, obviously”.

Fernandinho added: “Although they didn’t start this campaign on the right path, they are a great team with excellent players, they are a powerful side. It’s going to be a very tough away match but we are ready to play. We are living a great moment in Manchester. The squad is performing well and we are happy”.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is facing major injury concerns after losing a vital trio in a few days: Sergio Aguero (rib injury following a car crash in Amsterdam), Benjamin Mendy (who has ruptured the ACL) and captain Vincent Kompany.

And the Belgian defender has not recovered yet, as the Citizens’ manager confirmed speaking at a press conference ahead of Chelsea clash: “I spoke to Roberto Martinez and Kompany is travelling to Belgium to meet with the doctor – Guardiola said – Of course he can not play with Belgium.”

He added: “No way [will Kompany be fit to play against Chelsea], he didn’t make one training session with us since one month ago, the Gibraltar game”.

Manchester City are set to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, without both Sergio Aguero and Benjamin Mendy, who will miss out on great part of the season following an ACL injury.

A statement from the club read: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Benjamin Mendy has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. After initial tests in Manchester at the start of the week, Benjamin travelled to Barcelona to see a specialist doctor, where further examinations of the knee today confirmed the extent of the injury. Benjamin will undergo surgery [Friday] in Barcelona, and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery. Mancity.com will bring you regular updates regarding his rehabilitation.”

Mendy recently posted a Tweet downplaying the bad injury he suffered: “Bad news guys. I will be joining Injury FC on loan for a couple months with ruptured ACL but will be back soon and stronger hopefully.”

Tiemoue Bakayoko was impressive with Chelsea recently, as Conte himself noted speaking at a press conference ahead of next clash against Manchester City.

The Italian manager is set to pick-up the best starting XI with Fabregas, Bakayoko and Kante all in for a place in midfield: “You must consider game by game to consider all the situations, – Conte confirmed – you have to consider which teams are you facing: strong, medium, relegation battle etc”.

Then, about the former AS Monaco midfielder, he added: “I think now Bakayoko is fit and playing very well, he’s a lot of room for improvement, he has to improve some situations during the game”.

Conte also confirmed that Danny Drinkwater is the only Chelsea player to be ruled out of Manchester City clash with a calf injury.

Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti was sacked by Bayer Munich yesterday, as we reported.

“It’s a pity for Carlo, – Blues’ manager Antonio Conte said when asked about his relationship with the compatriot – Also because I know him very well and everyone knows his value, he’s one of the best coaches in the world”.

“You know very well that our job is like this, in our job results are very important, and when you don’t get them, you risk, even if you are doing a good job. The result is a part of our job, I think we stay here to talk about this, but everything depends on the result”.

Bayern are currently 3rd in their league with 13 points, 3 points behind Borussia Dortmund.

“I spoke to him in Singapore and he was happy to work with those players. I don;t know if he will be back in the Premier League, I think now he will stop for this season, when you are managing of a great team you spend a lot of energies mentally and pshically, so if you can have time for yourself, you spend it to recharge the batteries”.

Carlo Ancelotti won the Premier League and F.A. Cup with Chelsea in 2009/10 campaign.

Antonio Conte spoke today ahead of tomorrow’s game against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, kick-off time 5.30PM BST.

The Italian manager hailed Alvaro Morata, who started really well this Chelsea experience scoring also in the last Champions League win against Atletico Madrid: “I am not surprised because I know Alvaro very well, for sure to arrive and play in this league it’s not simple, I think you need time to adapt and he did it very well”.

“I am happy and I hope he continues like this, for him it’s the first chance to play regularly as a number 9, he’s got this responsibility, he is coping with the pressure and he’s playing very well.”

Chelsea signed the former Juventus striker from Real Madrid on an initial £58m fee this summer.
