Chelsea boss Antonio Conte spoke about new signing Alvaro Morata, who joined his new team only a week ago and needs to adapt fast to a new kind of football, as Arsenal clash for the Community Shield is in just six days:
“Is it important for him to get that first goal? Yes. But against Inter he didn’t play like a No9, he played like a No10,” the Italian manager told London Evening Standard.
“But it is a necessity for me in this moment to play him there because we don’t have other players.”
When asked if Morata is showing any sign of the strain caused by the fee, Conte replied:
“No. We are about to start our season now and Alvaro has only been with us for a few days.
“We didn’t pay a lot for Alvaro, only £50-£60m. If you compare him to others, you can see the difference.
“For sure, he is a good young player, a good prospect for Chelsea. He will try to do his best for Chelsea.
“I am pleased with his commitment, his will and efforts to learn our idea of football very quickly.”
